Cómo preparar a tu gato para la llegada de un bebé a casa 😾🍼 | ¿Alejarlo de la cuna?

Carlos and Nora, clinical veterinarians, explain how to prepare your cat for a new baby. They cover adjusting routines, introducing new smells, scheduling vet checkups, and managing your cat's behavior around baby items.
And he's absolutely right, because the arrival of a baby means a lot of changes at home. But don't worry, because with the advice I'm going to give you today, not even he'll notice. Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. The arrival of a baby at home is very good news, but your cat may not think it's such a good idea because, well, routines that you didn't have before are going to start to appear. You're going to have to be awake at different times than before to take care of the baby. There's. Cats are very careful with their surrounds for a while. How silly. Really. What you have to do is, without giving it much importance, leave the door open for a while, a few hours during the day, and the door closed for another while. Let your cat walk past it and, well, the give it much importance that the door is closed. Because if suddenly, once you've put all the furniture together, you close the door and turn it into a bunker, your cat will want to investigate what's inside and may start banging on the door and want to get in at all costs. Another thing that babies bring home is smells. You won't have to get your cat used to how your baby's poop is going to smell, but it will get used to it much better if you start showing it how your baby is going to smell with the colognes or shampoos that you're going to use on it. Start using your baby's colognes inside that room or near the door so that your cat recognizes how that area of the house is going to smell from then on. And it won't find it so strange once the baby is born. Hey, you have to get the cat close to the belly so it gets used to the fact that a new baby is coming. Well, I don't know if cats can sense that a new baby is coming, but hey, if you want to do it perfect, maybe the cat already feels something. It's just not known. I don't think there's any kind of study or anything about that. The truth is, I don't know. They showed us a video in the Facebook group where there was a dog that got close to the belly of a pregnant family and it kind of reacted. Well, there are dogs, not so many cats, but there are dogs that can. Hello. That can recognize that we're recording. Right. There are dogs that can recognize if their owner is sick or if, for example, their sugar is high. For people with Diabetes. So it's possible that dogs can recognize those types of changes. Cats don't usually have those types of perceptions. Oh, with a stick and all. And all this preparation of your home has been done during the months of pregnancy, during the months before the baby arrived home. Now let's move on to the moment a little closer to the birth. We're going to be a couple of weeks before you're going to have your baby, and this is the moment when you'll have to take your cat to the vet for a checkup, for a good deworming for vaccinations, and to check that everything is fine. Come on. This is knowledge for a cat lover. At first, I don't think I even need to tell you. But it's very important that now that your baby is coming home, your cat is perfectly healthy, so that you have to worry about one thing less. And now let's move on to the moment, the last detail. Well, at this point, there are many people who decide to cut their cat's nails, and you know that I'm not very much in favor of you doing this type of thing. Although in this case it may be justified. It may be a good idea to only trim the tips of your cat's nails to prevent them from getting too excited when you get home after being in the hospital, or for example, and from scratching you or even wanting to play with the baby and potentially hurting the baby with the tips of their nails. Another good exercise you can do is to move the stroller around your house. You think that your cat suddenly sees this giant moving thing on wheels, that it's very big and takes up a lot of space. He won't like that at all because he won't know what this evil contraption is, and he'll see it coming at him as if it were going to run him over. So what you can do in the days before you're going to have the baby is simply walk around your house with the empty stroller so that your cat gets used to it moving. One day he might see it here, another day he'll see it there, and it won't hurt him at all. And finally, the big day arrives when you are going to give birth at that moment, in addition to having a lot of things on your mind that you probably have, or even just the contractions that keep you from thinking about anything, don't forget about your cat. Before leaving for the hospital, you will have to leave him enough food and water so that he can be at home peacefully for about two or three days, which will probably be how long it will take you to return home. During those days that you will not be returning home, you can ask a neighbor or family member to stop by your house to take a look and make sure everything is okay. And to refill your cat's food if it needs it, to give him fresh water, or even if you really trust him, to change the litter in the litter box. Of course. And if your cat already knows the person who is going to come to your house, you can also take the opportunity to play with them for a while so that the cat doesn't feel so out of place and alone because it thinks that it's going to feel a bit strange at that moment. So saying, well, where did all these people go that left me here and forgot about me? And this could be a very good time to start the pre introduction. You don't have to introduce it to the cat via Skype or anything like that, but you can make it recognize the baby's smell once it's born by taking a blanket from the hospital or an item of clothing that has been in contact with the baby and leaving it there. You can ask the same person who is going to take a look at your house for the favor. They probably won't have any problem taking it. That way your cat will have something to recognize the new creature that is going to come to live in their home. This is equivalent to what for humans is the typical baby cat. Baby cat. Nice to meet you too.
And it's the best way to start a harmonious cat child relationship. How nice. And this is the most important thing for your cat to start the relationship with your baby on the right foot. But it's not the only thing you have to do. Then comes the real face to face introduction. Your cat with your baby. But we'll talk about that in the next video on the channel. And we'll also see how you can help your cat in those first few days of much more hustle and bustle in your home. Don't click with me. This is my star part. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone. Remember to subscribe to our channel if you haven't already, to earn Totoro's unconditional love and hit the bell. So YouTube will notify you every time we upload new content. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel and we'll see you in the next video. And today we're also going to meet your pets. Parlo is writing to us from Keto, Ecuador, and introduces us to Glow seen from this photo from a distance. I don't have my glasses on right now, and I thought he was a dog, but no, he's a cat. Gaia goes for walks with Carla in natural areas in Ecuador and says that she has found quite a few places far from the cities where cats are not in any danger. And that although it is not very common, Ga enjoys it very much. How pretty, man. And of course, always with supervision and with his harness and leash. I like that. Above all, there is safety. Oh, I see Double Aria and Bruce, who Natalia is introducing to us here. They have been members of her family for a couple of months and who are making them super happy. How handsome they are. They are alike. They are siblings. It doesn't.
Say so. And Rosana introduces us to her cat Lennon, a very studious cat who has decided to study tax law with her. What surprises me, Le Rosanna, is that Lennon is still awake and not just purring on top of his notes and asleep. And if you want your pets to appear in this section, and for the rest of the people who watch the Happy Pets and Families channel, to get to know them, what you have to do is introduce them to us in the Facebook group. Oh, I forgot to tell you something. Remember that we also have a parallel or secondary channel.
Secondary. Called Questions and Answers from a Veterinarian. In that channel, you ask me the questions and I provide the answers. They are very short videos where I answer a very specific question that you have to ask me about your pets. They are qu. General questions. So they may also be useful for you to know how to help your pet be completely happy by your side. If you haven't subscribed yet, hurry up and subscribe. And that's it. And if you want to ask us any questions for that channel, leave them in the comments, in the Facebook group, on Instagram or wherever you want. See you next week. You have to put lots of plop, plop, plop, plop of blah, blah, blah. Okay, what do I do? I don't know. I'm not from the Bronx. I'm not good at that. Oh, oh. I'm not an actor. I'm a small animal clinical veterinarian. It's hard to believe that in two years you haven't figured it out. Oh.
But anyway, they're calling you, Nora. They're calling you. But what kind of time of year is this for there to be flies? I just don't know how to make a bad face. I'm a good person. Well, I would tell him that. He has no idea that everything I say is worth its weight in gold. Run, Nora. Come on, run. Sorry. Don't worry about it. Westies are so cute, aren't they? And what I mean is this is equivalent to what a typical baby cat is for humans. Baby cat? Like that. Oh, okay. Well, I don't know if I've told you once that my mother was pruning a tree in the garden and she pricked her eye and so she went to the doctor and they covered it up. And Snowflake would throw himself at the eyepatch that my mother had because he saw it as something strange and he didn't like it. And if my mother was, for example, lying on the couch, the cat would go and get her eyepatch. Random anecdote. Yes. Cats in health. M.
