Andres from Table Doc walks through how to set up a pet carrier for dogs or cats before traveling. He covers hydration, safety measures, and labeling so your pet stays comfortable and identifiable on the road.
Hi, I'm Andres from Table Doc and I'm going to explain exactly how to assemble the carrier for your dog or cat. In this case, it's going to be for your dog. For your dog. Just think that we're going to put absorbent flooring. These are clinical absorbent floors from veterinary clinics that work well, but you can find them in any large store or supermarket in your area where you live. So we open the carrier and what we do is put the absorbent floor on the floor. Okay? The absorbent floor goes on the floor. And so in the case of a cat, it's very important that it has plenty of clothes. Why? Because cats hide under them when they're scared. So in this case we're going to put the owner's T shirt on top as a floor. We also often recommend putting towels, towels that you may have at home, so that the entire space itself flies away from you. We're going to show you how to place the containers in the front of the indoor carrier so that your cat never lacks water. You should know that the pacifier system is not recommended for us. In many cases we have gone to pick up animals that have arrived on international flights, sent from other parts of the world, and they have arrived completely dehydrated because adult animals forget to suck. This can happen to a puppy, but never to an adult animal. Cats always have to have water in sight because they are animals that constantly drink water and always have to be perfectly hydrated. And dogs, again, the same thing, they forget to suck. And so it is advisable to put plates directly on them. This plate could be perfect for a cat weighing eight or nine kilograms, but it could also be perfect for a dog weighing approximately 10kg. As we have explained in previous videos, there are different sizes for different animals that can fly in different sizes of boxes. In this case it would be for an 80 kilogram box for a 9-10 kg cat on a trip to, for example, New Zealand, Australia or other more distant countries. So, as you can see, we assemble the flange, the opening, we assemble the opening, grab the gate, and what we are going to do to avoid any surprises or injuries, is cut the ends of this. This would be the correct way to install the drinking fountain. We take the scissors that we have and cut this way. The cutting part should always be facing outwards, the cut part facing outwards. Then the next step is to use the funnel. The funnel is very important to put in place because anyone from the outside could, upon seeing that your cat or dog has no water Fill the container with water through a funnel, because in this way we will prevent at all times any stranger from opening the door in good faith. To give them water and your dog or cat running away, you have to remember that sometimes they can get very nervous. And to avoid this, always remember to leave the cut part outside. Since we leave it inside, we run the risk of it hurting itself when drinking. You also have to know, and this is important, to add a bottle of water inside what is actually on the outside of the carrier. That way, when you have to make a stopover, or for reasons beyond the company's control, you have to make a stop. There must be a bottle of water at all times, so that there is no excuse for not being able to give it water, because there is no water. So we will take a bridle. What we will do is attach the bottle to the bridle and attach that bridle to the door of the carrier. First you attach it like this so that it cannot escape and you put another piece. And in this way you make sure that you can safely hang the bottle on the door of the carrier, so that if necessary lacks water, it can be put back. Depending on the size of the carrier and the dog, the size of the bottles will obviously change. In this case, it is for an 8kg cat and we want it to have water. Let's consider that this is enough to replenish the water and for the water to last. Avoid filling the containers to the top, as sometimes when the carrier is handled, the water spills. What we want is for there to be water but not to spill. This will ensure that your cat travels hydrated at all times. The next step would be to take the labels for both your dog and your cat and stick them on the carrier. We stick the label on the carrier where we are going to put your dog's name. Here goes your dog's name. And on another label, or on the same larger label, we will add an urgent contact telephone number. It is very important to have a telephone number that will be answered if you call. That is an international number in the hypothetical case that you were to move to live in another part of the world, or a national telephone number where this can be done. We recommend always including mobile and landline numbers because this way they can locate you at any time. Another important thing you should know is that you have to put location tags on it. International regulations require that these tags must be present on the carrier. You can get them at any specialized store that sells travel products or even at the airport. Itself where they will provide you with them at the check in counters. This information is always intended for animals that do not fly in the cabin. For animals that fly in the hold in the cabin, the protocol is completely different. It is important that you know about the bridles. The bridles must be made of resistant plastic. We recommend that you buy them at hardware stores, since in other types of Asian stores they usually break and are of little use. In this case, they are special drinks purchased at a hardware store, which is what we are going to do is secure the carrier. It is true that we can secure the carrier on the sides through a slot. It is best to buy carriers with a top entry hole which allows you to grab the bridle, that is, grab the bridle, put it in the hole and grab the door. We grab the door and in this way we ensure that no one, no stranger, can open the door. Only veterinarians, if necessary to open it. Your bridle is grabbed here and you have to grab it on all four sides. Normally, European airlines only allow you to grab it with one bridle at the top and bottom. North American Airlines recommend 4. 4 is much safer. Therefore, in this case we always recommend four. Always four. You have to consider that for a cat it is better to have four. Any accidental dislodgement of the door could mean that if you only hold two of them, your cat or dog could escape out the other side at the same time. Apart from all the screws that we have inserted into the carrier to secure them as required by international and auto regulations, we have to add side clamps again to further secure the transportation. In this way, your carrier is absolutely safe. Simply follow our recommendations regarding the preparation of dogs or cats that travel in a carrier. Following the recommendations for cats to put lots of clothes or so that they can hide, put in absorbent paper, put in funnels and put in tappers as a substitute for the dishes for cats or dogs, depending on the size. As we have explained in previous chapters, with all these conditions, success is assured. The key to a successful pet trip is for them to feel like their space is theirs, to get used to it and to know that the door opens at all times. You will notice the big difference the moment your pet arrives at its destination. We are delighted that you have watched this video because it will help you a lot when traveling with your pet anywhere in the world. However, if you need more information, we will be happy to provide it to you by visiting our website Travelog Es or writing to our email Travelocravelog es. Thank you very much, Sam.
