Cómo tomar la TEMPERATURA al GATO 😿🌡️ Saber si mi GATO TIENE FIEBRE

This is a YouTube video titled "Cómo tomar la TEMPERATURA al GATO 😿🌡️ Saber si mi GATO TIENE FIEBRE" created on December 29, 2019. It features Alfonso Fernandez, a veterinarian specializing in small animals, explaining in Spanish how to properly take a cat's temperature, emphasizing the use of a rectal thermometer and discussing alternative methods such as temperature-reading microchips.
Hi everyone. I'm Alfonso Fernandez, a veterinarian specializing in small animals. I work at San Jose Veterinary in Barcelona, and today I'm going to explain how to take a cat's temperature. Many of you have asked us, how do you do this? Some people say, no, I. I touch their ears. What if they're warm? Well, yes, it can happen. If you have a cat with a fever, you may notice that their ears are warmer than usual. You may also notice that their nose or truffle is a little drier. But these are not reliable methods. Also, if we take into account that a cat's normal Temperature is between 38 and 39, which is higher than ours, they will always feel warmer than we are. So the only reliable way is to use a thermometer. And the only reliable place to use this thermometer is, unfortunately for cats, the anus, you have to take their temperature via the rectum. This can be done with any thermometer. But ideally we should use a special veterinary thermometer, mainly because they are much faster, and that way we have to spend less time and it is less discomfort for our kitten. To take a rectal temperature, we have to insert the thermometer into the animal's rectum and then we have to move it to one side so that what you are seeing here happens that the tip touches the wall of the rectum, because if we insert it straight, and here it happens that the kitten has feces, because it is going to poop. Soon we are going to stick the thermometer with the tip inside the feces, and what we are going to take is a temperature of the feces that is much lower than the actual temperature of the cat. That is why we insert the thermometer into one side so that it touches the wall. And then here, the challenge that we have to be will depend on the thermometer that we are using. In the case of veterinary thermometers, as I was saying, they are very fast, and normally once we do this, it takes four or five seconds and we already have the temperature. Ah, lately we have some special microchips that once we insert them, that we implant them in the animal, both in dogs and cats, when we pass the reader over them, it will not only tell us the code of the chip, but it will also tell us the temperature of the animal, which saves us from having to insert the thermometer into the anus. Of course, we veterinarians who have this type of special reader can use that. Or if you feel like spending money foolishly, you can buy a chip reader, and when you want to do this, just pass it over the reader. But as I said, the easiest, simplest, most practical thing for owners and for people who have cats at home is to take the rectal temperature, as we have explained. I hope you found it useful. See you in the next video. Thank you very much, mister.
