CONSEJOS BÁSICOS para que TU GATO haga CACA 💩 EN SU ARENERO

Carlos, a veterinarian, explains why cats stop using their litter boxes and how to fix it. He covers litter box placement, health issues that cause accidents, and behavioral problems. The video includes practical tips for cat owners dealing with this common problem.
Totoro, you don't know that the litter box is for you to do your business, which I've seen you doing in places where you shouldn't. But that's going to end. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian in small animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. I came up with this video based on the video we made here on the channel about the types of litter and which one I recommended. Since that video, you've written me some disturbing messages where you told me where your cat used to do its business. Obviously, many people told me that their cat did it in the litter box and also told me the type of litter that suited it. And other people told me that their cat did it in inhospitable places. You've really told me all sorts of things. Well, not that much. I'm just creating a lot of hype here. The truth is that most cats usually do their business in the litter box. It's something practically instinctive. Well, I don't think I've ever had a cat that had to be taught, because they know perfectly well that after doing it, they have to cover their business with whatever litter they have on hand. But of course, there are some cats that don't do their business in the litter box. What does this mean? Maybe it indicates that the cat doesn't like the litter box. Maybe it indicates that the cat is sick. The first thing you have to do when you see that your cat doesn't do their business in the litter box is to analyze the cat's behavior. And this may seem like something very, very complex, but it simply involves looking to see if your cat did it before, if it didn't do it before, if it started doing it after some type of event that happened in your house, if there has been some type of change in the cat's behavior in the video. I'm going to tell you about some places where people have told me that their cats do things. I'm going to tell you how you can prevent them from doing it there. But at the end of the video, I'm going to tell you some more or less general and very important considerations that you have to take into account regarding the litter box, because the problem could be in the litter box. I'll tell you in advance. So without going on about it too much, let's start with the first of the places where cats do things that they supposedly shouldn't. And I say supposedly because the first place is in flower pots. It may be that your cat is very interested in the Substrate in your flowerpots. After all, it's soil like what he has in the litter box. It's not written in stone anywhere that your cat has to do it in the litter box and not in the flower pot, because for him it's exactly the same. The thing is, of course, if you. If your cat does it in your geraniums, it can bother you a bit because you say you have a litter box there. Why are you doing it in my plants? Oh, and one more thing I forgot. The soil in flower pots is not safe soil. There could also be parasite eggs, worms and other things that could transmit some type of disease to your cat because that litter is not sterilized anywhere. And obviously you could also be at risk, and it could be that he has picked up that habit. In fact, it is very common for cats to always do their business in the same places. If you want to avoid or try to limit them doing it in flower pots, I recommend that you change the location of the flower pot and put it in a place where he cannot access it. You can do this with a small flower pot. Perhaps with a large flower pot, it will be more complicated. Once you have changed the location, you can put your cat's litter box there, because as I was saying, cats will constantly return to do it in the same place where they are used to. If they find the litter box there they are, they will see it as a normal transition to start doing it in the substrate that you want, which is the litter from their box. You can make the change a little more gradual. First, place the litter box next to the pot. And then when your cat is doing it indifferently in the litter box or in the pot, remove the pot. If that doesn't work, you have to start using a bit of heavy artillery, limiting or preventing your cat from seeing it as a suitable substrate for doing its poop. And how do you do that? You can put rocks, more or less large rocks, on top of the plant, on top of the soil of the plant. Don't leave gravel. Gravel is small rocks, because if you leave gravel for it, it will be the same for it, then it will continue doing it. If you leave large rocks on top of the pot, also placed in an irregular shape, it will not attract its attention and it will predictably stop doing it. You can also opt for another series of impediments for your cat, such as pine cones, but not fruit pine cones, Pine cones, stone pine cones. Not this one. Yes, this one. You can pile up the pinecones there and then they will have slightly irregular shapes that the cat won't notice and therefore will try to avoid. But okay, let's suppose that you get a little more creative and decide not to use stones or pine cones. You can also use my best ally with cats, aluminum foil. You can put the aluminum foil on top of the pot, making a kind of cone. And that way you will prevent the cat from having access to it and therefore from doing its business in the litter box. It will give your house a very select touch, Quite chic and a bit galactic. But hey, it's another option.
No, I don't see it A, I like those pine cones better. I also find them more aesthetic and the stones more attractive.
Okay, but there is also another option. You can put something on top of the soil of the plants that the cat doesn't like. In terms of aroma. Jose, what is the aroma that cats like the least?
Oh, I know that one. Lemon.
Okay. You can put citrus peels on top of the litter. Obviously, there may be some cats that like citrus fruits, as you've already written to me, but as a general rule, almost all cats don't like the sour smell. Well, there are a few options. Choose the one you like. Well, leaving aside the issue of flower pots, which is understandable, there are some cats that do it in the bathtub. In your bathtub. The bathtub issue is perhaps a bit trickier. Perhaps that's where you're a bit more repulsed. Generally, that's where they usually pee. Right? The poop. In these cases, to avoid it, what you might have to do is either block the cat from entering your bathroom by closing the door, or you can perhaps leave a layer of water in the bathtub, put the stopper on and leave a layer of water in the bathtub so that if the cat gets in, it won't be pleasant because it doesn't like getting its paws wet. You can do it exactly the same way if you do it in the sink, in the kitchen sink, wherever. There are cats for everything. Well, but what I'm telling you are short term solutions. You're trying to cover a leak with a piece of cardboard. So what you have to do is tackle the underlying problem. And the underlying problem often lies in the litter box, in the litter box, and in the circumstances surrounding your cat. Sometimes your cat starts doing its business outside the litter box because you've done something you shouldn't have with the litter tray. For example, if you abruptly changing the brand of litter or cleaning it with some type of detergent that has a very strong smell in These cases, cats reject the litter box because they simply don't like it. Cats who reject the litter box like this tend to do this near the litter box itself. They even do it at the door as if to say, yes, I want to, but what's in there won't let me. Also, this thing about doing it at the door could also be because the litter box is really dirty. And then he says, I'm not going in there even if you pay me. And that's also why you don't do it right at the door, but instead you start doing it outside in a flower pot. Because he says, well, since I don't like that soil, this seems ideal for me. But related to the litter box is also that our cats think they're a bit of a who knows about fensui tea? I tell you this because cats like to have their things very tidy at home. To have the litter box well organized, as I always say, it has to be away from food areas. And it's also very important that the litter box is not in passageways in areas that have a lot of traffic, because cats, just like us, like to have a little privacy and a little relaxation when we're in that moment. If you have suddenly said to your cat, look, this is a good place for the litter box, because I can put it here, and it's very nice next to a hallway where we walk every day, perhaps that is not the most suitable place for your cat to have its litter box, and that is why it does not use it. But it is also possible that your cat is not using the litter box because you do not have enough litter boxes at home, especially when there is more than one cat living in the house, because sometimes they do not form a very stable social group, or they do not like to do things where the other cat has already done them. In this case, it is best to always follow the N1 rule. The number of litter boxes you have at home must be the same as the number of cats you have at home, one which you can put in extra so that the cats can use it as long as the rest have already been used or occupied by another cat. It may also be that your cat is older, very old. And sometimes some animals, when they reach a certain age, and it also happens to people, start to suffer from a bit of cognitive dysfunction, senile dementia. In fact, we have already talked about cognitive dysfunction in cats on the channel, and we also explained that sometimes they wander around the house almost aimlessly because they can't find their bed, their resting area or even the litter box. So it could be that your cat is looking for the litter box around the house, can't find it because it has forgotten where it is, poor thing. And so does it in the first place it finds. In these cases, it is best to place more litter boxes around the house. Distribute it a bit so that your cat has easy access to a litter box. But be careful, because it could also indicate that your cat is sick, for example, that they have diarrhea. In this case, the cat cannot contain itself until it reaches the litter box and does it in the first place it finds. That is, for example, if it poops outside. But if your cat is starting to pee outside, it could mean that your cat is developing cystitis. Cystitis, which is an inflammation of the bladder, can also be indicated if the color of the pee you see outside the litter box is slightly different, a little reddish pinkish or directly burgundy. And note that I want to insist on this issue of cystitis because it is very important, because the sign that the cat is starting to pee outside the litter box is seen in almost all cats that begin to develop cystitis in these cases. Do not wait and take your cat to the vet as soon as possible so that they can start the appropriate treatment. Finally, it could also be that your cat has stopped using the litter box for why?
Oh, I don't know what I'm missing. Always. For all cats because they don't like the litter?
No, because of stress or because your cat is only marking? Marking with urine is usually done as a kind of spray and generally on vertical surfaces. This type of marking can begin to develop not only due to heat, but also due to stress. And it is very important, for example, when we introduce new cats into the home, new items in the home, such as furniture and so on, and we change our cat's habitat. In this case, it is very, very, very common for them to start doing it, for example, on new sofas that we have brought in, new upholstery, and so on. In addition, stress can trigger cystitis. Yes, it is somewhat related to cystitis because one of the most frequent causes of idiopathic cystitis in cats is stress. So one thing can lead to another. Look at this video ending perfectly. And that's it now. That's it for now. And right now you're probably thinking, and this guy hasn't told me about when my cat decides to do it in the toilet or if it's a good idea to teach a cat to do it. In the toilet. Toilet VC or whatever it's called in your area. Because the name can change. Uh, well, no, I haven't forgotten. The thing is that this topic is a bit, um. How should I say it? Tedious. It has many implications. I have quite a formed opinion on the subject that. Well, I don't know. If you want me to tell you, leave it in the comments and, well, we'll think about it and do it here on the channel. And that's it for today's video. Thank you very much for following the Pets and Happy Families channel, and I'll see you in the next video. Are you recording?
Yes.
Oh, man.
I don't have a belly. Although it shows here. Do you know why? Shut up. Don't put that in the videos. Next week on Pets and Happy Families. They're too tight for me to sit here, but don't put this in the video, please. Let's put Jose.
Impossible Dream. I can't take it anymore. Don't put this. Yes, but I want people to take me as a pop reference, not that I have references from other people. Oh, my ass is already square.
Spoiler. We're going to do it.
Shut up. Because then people won't write me comments. If you don't write me comments. We won't publish it. But a big pineapple is going to go limp on top of the pot. A pineapple from the other side is wood, not to make your number one. Number two is the cucumber. Of course, I don't know.
Spoiler. We're going to have to publish it because it's programmed.
Shut up. Again. This one. Not this one. Shut up. Huh? Unless you have hydroponic crops at home.
Okay, nobody knows what that is.
Oh, no. Something fell in my mouth. Oh, okay. Ellipsis. No, no. Oh, okay. Number two. Number one. What is it? I think it's number two. Because number two is kind of rounder. Sure. Things like this are falling on me. Sorry. Huh? I have to stretch a little. Don't say it in the comments. No. People don't find out when we upload videos. I'm not going to say anything else except in the presence of my lawyer. If you put a piece of cardboard and a leak, eventually the cardboard will get wet and you'll have the leak again. You'll have the problem again. I think we understood the yes.
