Consejos para prevenir accidentes de mascotas

This is a YouTube video titled "Consejos para prevenir accidentes de mascotas" created in August 2017. The content is a monologue by a single speaker providing advice on preventing accidents involving pets, particularly dogs and cats, when outside or near streets and windows. The speaker discusses responsible pet ownership, safety measures like using leashes and window nets, and the risks pets face outdoors. The video aims to educate pet owners on how to keep their animals safe and avoid accidents.
Hello and welcome to Happy Pets and Families. Today I'm going to talk to you about a topic that is quite common in the practice and that we hear about very frequently. It is accidents that pets have on the street due to their owner's carelessness. The other day in the practice, an owner told me that it was the first time that his dog had crossed the street without a leash, since it never leaves his side. The truth is that this happens much more frequently than you might think. It is a situation that we veterinarians have to deal with almost every day. The problem with this situation is that the dog puts its own life at risk and also puts the life and health of other people it may come across at risk. An animal may be very familiar and may always be with its owner, but sometimes some type of circumstance occurs that alters this situation and causes the pet to behave in an abnormal the same happens with some cats that throw themselves out of windows after jumping. They do this because they are interested in exploring and also because they may want to play with a bird that flies by the window. No one can foresee an accident. Although an animal always acts the same way in certain circumstances this pet may behave a little more strangely. It is in your hands to solve these accidents. If you want to avoid these accidents. What you have to do is if you have a dog, for example, always take it out on a leash. Never take it loose, even if it never leaves your side. On many occasions, animals that are not neutered or spayed can exhibit strange behaviors linked to heat, and it may be that your dog smells another dog on the other side of the street and rushes to cross it without you having given it the order or going with it with a leash. You can prevent another dog from attacking your pet if it lunges at it, since you can have greater control over its movements. I recommend that if your dog is nervous or even a little insecure, you take special care when walking it and when taking it with other dogs that it does not have a previous relationship with. What you should do is try to introduce it to other dogs at a certain distance and prevent it from playing with dogs that it does not know. Do not let it go loose unless you are in a park or an area that is properly set up for this purpose. I also recommend that you use a voice control if your dog needs it, or if it is an animal that the law requires to be walked with a voice control. If you have a cat instead of a dog, or if you have a cat in addition to a dog you have to be especially careful with your pet's eagerness to explore. Felines are very curious and if you allow your pet to go outside, you should bear in mind that it runs certain risks. A cat that goes out to explore the neighborhood can be hit by cars, bitten by dogs, or bitten by other cats. You have to bear in mind that it can catch diseases from other wild animals that live in the urban environment. If, with all this information I've given you, you decide to let your pet go outside, you have to provide your cat with an escape route and to always be able to enter your home if it feels unsafe or injured. Furthermore, instead of living in a house, you should instead live in an apartment. You should try to install mosquito nets on all your windows since this will allow you to keep them open and prevent your cat from jumping out into the void. By installing mosquito nets on your windows, you prevent mosquitoes and other insects from entering your home. Apart from being very annoying for you due to their bites, they can transmit diseases that they have brought from other animals to your pets, dogs and cats. Treating your pets outdoors responsibly is part of the work that an owner must do. All damage caused by your pet is your responsibility to third parties. As long as you do not have your animal properly under control, you may find yourself in the painful situation of having your pet seriously injured in an accident that it caused, and you are also responsible for that accident. So when an owner comes to the clinic and tells me that their dog has crossed the street without running or that their cat has jumped out of their window, I unfortunately have to explain to them that for us veterinarians, this is not the first time that this has happened to us, but that it is in their hands with the advice I have just given you to ensure that this does not happen again. I hope you enjoyed today's video. If you also share it on your social networks, you can help all your friends to prevent this situation from happening again. If you found it interesting and want to learn more about the subject, I have left a link to my blog in the description box. Best wishes and I'll see you in the next video about pets and happy families.
