Hi, everyone. I'm Estephania from the LB Channel, and today I'm here on Animal Expert to talk to you about the basic care of cockatiels as pets. Many cockatiels, also known as Carolina, are cockatiels that belong to the cockatoo family. They are the smallest species of cockatoo and come from Australia. Drakkari loves kisses. Look, girl, that's pretty. The life expectancy of cockatiels in captivity has gradually increased, reaching 15, 25 years. And I've even seen some that are up to 30 years old, which honestly seems like a short time to me. I wish there were infinite numbers. And little by little this life expectancy has increased because we know them better and can offer them better care. The first thing is to offer them a good cage. And when we say cage, a bird cage or a dwarf classroom comes to mind. But that's not the case. The classroom will be their refuge and a place where they will feel safe and protected. The size of the classrooms should be the bigger the better. At least the size of the nymph with its wings stretched out three times, which should be horizontal rather than vertical and square or rectangular. Rectangular is better because their flights are horizontal and they can fly horizontally. What you have to be very clear about, and that should never ever be round. Never round. And make sure that the spacing between bars is no greater than 1.5 cm. The accessories that we must have inside the classrooms are feeders, which we can use as feeders that are made of stainless steel, which are very clean. Uh, as a drinker, we can use one for rodents that are quite clean, they keep the water very fresh. Or we can also use the one we use as a feeder. Well, use it the same way, but as a drinker. Um, oh, I have Ryuk on one foot. Just a moment while I introduce her for a second V. I'm going to introduce you to the world. This is RI Badass. They should also have their perches inside the classrooms. This is very typical on my channel that my chickens perch on top of the camera. They must have their perches which should always be made of natural wood. If you have one made of plastic or another material, throw it away. They must be made of natural wood, a cement perch so they can file their nails, and a cuttlefish bone. And besides, they are animals that love to play, so they can't be without toys. We will do without a little house, a bag, any shelter that they can use as a nest. Because where we see a little house, an adorable place where they Go to sleep. All they do is make a nest and breed and breed and breed to sleep on their sticks. They are birds that love to bathe. So we can either put a little toy inside or outside the classroom. What I do recommend is that many are afraid of the depth of the typical bathtubs that are sold. So what I usually put in there is something very flat or something that has a kind of curve, so that they can bathe and go in it calmly without fear of drowning. Regarding the maintenance and cleaning of the classrooms, it is advisable to clean them twice a week and disinfect them at least once a month. I am super maniacal about this because I live with them in the same room, I sleep with them and everything. And I like to have them really clean. And I always clean them. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I take the tray away, and on Saturdays I clean them well, thoroughly disinfected. I give them a good, good hose down. We must offer them a varied and quality diet. And I don't accept those typical mixtures sold in the supermarket, which only have millet pellets, arpiche and colored pellets. We will divide the diet into three parts. First, a good mix that, as you can see here, has several types of seeds, such as wheat, buckwheat, wheat flour and millet. Also look for a mix that doesn't have seeds, and if it does, make sure it has very few, because seeds cause liver problems. Second, they should eat feed and fruit and vegetables every day. And obviously we'll change their water and all their food daily. Let's see. Drukhari, we're recording something that's not for our channel. A lot of people are watching us. Okay, we have to behave. Be serious. Come on, come on. Be serious. Look at the camera. Look, look, look. Look over there. A lot of people are watching you. A lot of people are watching you. How are you sucking my nose? Are you sure you want to go out like this? I'll eat you. Oh, wait. They should go out for at least two hours a day while I'm here at home. Mine are free every day. And they should also have a recreational space or environmental enrichment where they can play fly like I have here, where they have a great time. I also want to dispel the famous myth that says it's better to have just one cockatiel than two, because they'll hate you, because they'll want to be with you. And this is a total myth, completely false and very selfish on our part. Cockatiels are Gregarious birds and need to be with another animal of the same species. That doesn't mean they'll love us any less or anything. From my experience, I'll always recommend having two. As you can see in my videos, if you dedicate time to them, interact with them, you'll become one more member of the feathered family. Look, look, look. Whoever tells me that having only one is better than two? You're such a sweetheart little creature. You don't know how sweet you are. Come on. We also have to take some precautions with birds. Like if we have other animals at home, like dogs and cats that are predators, we can't trust them because they are the prey. It only takes a thousandth of a second for something to happen, and many times we trust them and an accident could happen. We must also be very careful because they are very sensitive to drafts. And of course, every time we take them out of the cage, we must be very careful that all the windows, doors and everything are properly closed. Finally, I want to add that we must be well prepared so that at the slightest strange movement that we see, such as them falling, stopping to eat, or doing strange poops, we must rush, rush, rush to the vet. Don't even stop to ask questions on Facebook groups or watch YouTube videos. Nothing. Just go to the vet. These birds are prey to other animals and do not show symptoms of illness, so that other animals do not eat them. So when they show these symptoms, it means that they are very ill and we must rush to the vet. Don't waste a minute. I hope you enjoyed the video. If you want to get to know me a little better and learn more about lovebirds and nymphs, you're welcome to my channel. Because in addition to Dracarys and Ryuk, who you've met here, look how Drakkari is going to get all posh and everything. In addition to Drakkairi, I have two lovebirds, Yukimichi, who are little devils that you won't get bored with. And the latest addition, Magi, is jumping around over there. She's a little rabbit. Oh, they've thrown away the entire food container. Great. What a great time you've had. Well, that's all. A kiss and see you soon. What a mess they've made here. Oh my goodness, Rhystia. I was going to end the video nicely. What a mess they've made here in the living room. Oh my goodness. Everything was clean.
