But it wasn't until three weeks later that they found what would help them solve this mystery. Although they didn't know it. In a nearby forest where the crime took place, they found a bloody leather jacket that apparently belonged to a mysterious man. After analyzing the blood on the jacket, it turned out to be the same blood found in the car. At that moment, investigators realized that they had to take advantage of this great coincidence. They needed to find the owner of that leather jacket. But how? The police found some cat hairs on the mysterious jacket found in the forest. Coincidentally, the man who had lived with the victim until the day of her murder also lived with a cat named Snowball. That's when investigators saw their big opportunity. They needed to know if the hairs on the jacket belonged to Snowball. To do this, they contacted the genetic diversity lab. The scientists extracted Snowball's blood and compared it with the hair samples they had found. The results concluded that the genetic material extracted from the hair and the DNA in Snowball's blood were practically identical. But this did not confirm that both samples belonged to the same cat, since domestic animals, after years of selective breeding, can have many similarities in their genes. So the scientists had to compare the DNA found with other cats from Prince Edward island and the United States. After this lengthy investigation, they were finally able to arrest and charge the murdered woman's ex partner. The evidence provided by Snowball led the jury to a guilty verdict.
