The content is delivered by a single speaker providing detailed information about the breed.
Hello and welcome to this new video from Animal Expert. Today we're going to talk about one of the most popular Molosser dogs, the Boxer. The ancestors of the Boxer are two German Molosser type dogs, the Bullenbaiser and the Baron Baser. However, the main contribution to the breed came from the smaller Bullen Baser, known as the Brabant Bullenbasser. They were big game hunting dogs, hardy, strong and with a great prey drive. Later they were crossed with the English Bulldog and began to be used as cattle herding dogs. The official breed standard was established in 1894. The origin of the name is unclear. At first it was thought that it was due to the great skill this breed has with its front legs. However, another hypothesis suggests that the word boxer is a degeneration of box, which was how the Brabant Bullenbasser was colloquially known. The Boxer is a medium sized dog. Females tend to be somewhat smaller, measuring between 53 and 59 centimeters at the withers and weighing. Males, on the other hand, measure between 57 and 63 cm and weigh over 30 kg. Although colloquially there are two types, the more refined European and the more muscular American, the truth is that the FCI does not differentiate between them and groups them together in the same breed. They can be practically any color, ranging from light fawn to dark deer, red brindle and with white spots. However, they always have a black mask. Among all the characteristics we can highlight the strong and powerful head, the drooping lips and the deep chest. The Boxer dog's good sense of smell and its great courage have earned it one of the top positions as a firefighter dog. It is a faithful dog, vigilant and active. It is docile, loyal to its family and an excellent companion for children. Although somewhat rough when playing, always affectionate, it also stands out for being protective and vigilant. Boxers need two, three walks a day combined with moderate exercise. This is essential to keep their muscles in good condition. It is also important that they eat a controlled and adequate diet to prevent overweight or anorexia. It is important to dedicate time to daily hygiene of the boxer, removing eye mucus and drool, as well as monthly care related to ears and nails. They should be bathed approximately every one or two months, depending on the level of dirt, and they should be brushed weekly to remove dead hair. Combs with short, soft teeth are the most appropriate. The boxer, mainly because of the tremendous bond it creates with its owners, will respond positively to games and commands. Although it may need a little more time than other breeds, it is very important to socialize them early with all types of dogs, animals and people. In this way, when all its vaccinations are up to date, we will go out on the street to allow it to socialize with sociable dogs. Finally, it is highly recommended to work on basic obedience commands such as sit, lie down, stay still or come here are essential for their safety. We must be careful with extreme heat and intense exercise because sometimes, due to their malosser constitution, the boxer does not breathe properly and can suffer from heatstroke. They are prone to developing cancer and to a lesser extent, heart disease, hip dysplasia and epilepsy. Be very careful with gastric torsion and allergies to certain diets. Their skin is delicate and if they do not have a comfortable bed or we force them to spend a lot of time outside, they can suffer from calluses on their elbows. So this is a dog that must have a comfortable and pleasant resting space inside the house. It is essential to keep the vaccination schedule up to date as well as deworming. Although the life expectancy of a boxer dog is usually around 10 years, a happy and well cared for boxer can live a long life of up to 13 or 15 years. And that's it for our video today.
