Embarazo psicológico en perras. Qué hacer si tu perra sufre pseudogestación.

This is a YouTube video titled "Embarazo psicológico en perras. Qué hacer si tu perra sufre pseudogestación." created on March 21, 2018. The content features a clinical veterinarian named Carlos discussing the phenomenon of phantom pregnancy (pseudogestación) in female dogs, explaining its causes, symptoms, and possible treatments. The video is educational, aimed at pet owners concerned about this condition, and includes advice on when to consult a vet and the benefits of sterilization. The format is primarily a monologue with some interaction between Carlos and another speaker, but it is not a multi-speaker conversation involving Javier Pariente.
Another very curious behavior is that they can adopt some of their toys to satisfy that maternal instinct they have and think that they are even their offspring. And why isn't my baby gaining any weight? Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. Today there was finally a park. But hey, we're not going to rely too much on luck, because I think it might rain a little today. Our follower from 3killer69 asks us in the Q and A video that we already have on the channel. Hello, I will. I wanted to ask you a question. My dog worries me. Has she ever had a phantom pregnancy? Does it always come back after a heat or does it not have to? It can only be solved by sterilization. Or is there another way to prevent it? Greetings and thanks in advance. Thank you for asking us the question because the topic is very interesting and we have decided, instead of answering you with a simple comment, to make a monographic video on the subject. Before I give you the answer, let me explain to everyone what it is and how they can tell if their dog may be having a phantom pregnancy. Oh, I can feel a tingling sensation in my stomach. That's gas.
Yes, it was gas. Although this may seem like one of those myths that people make up about phantom pregnancy in dogs and so on, it is very real. That's why veterinarians don't call it a phantom pregnancy, but rather a pseudo pregnancy, because it has nothing to do with phantom pregnancy, although that's what it's commonly known as, and that's how I'm going to refer to it during the video. A phantom pregnancy is a situation that occurs normally in dogs, depending on how their hormones behave after they go into heat. In fact, it happens in a very high percentage of dogs, around 60%. This may sound like the phantom pregnancy that occurs in some women, but it's the same thing. The answer is no. The difference is that in women it is a psychological disorder that can lead to them showing signs of being pregnant when they are not. In dogs, it is not due to something psychological, but rather due to the action of their hormones. When does a psychological pregnancy occur in dogs? It develops approximately a month and a half after the end of the normal heat cycle of our dog. Heat is the time when the dog is fertile. Therefore the only time when she can get pregnant, of course, if she has been seeing another dog. But of course, the are dogs that do not get pregnant at that time. No, no. Look. Oh, come on. Look. She looks like me. Oh, how funny. Let's suppose that a dog gets pregnant. What happens with her hormones is that they are too high to maintain that state of pregnancy and allow the puppies to grow inside the uterus. What happens in dogs that aren't pregnant, and this is the difference, is that hormones remain equally high at levels almost similar to those if they were pregnant with.
But this is always, always after the heat, always. And these high hormone levels cause things to happen as if she were pregnant, such as, for example, her milk production naturally coming in. And you may ask, where does this come from? Well, I'm gonna give you a lesson in canine evolution with Darwin's permission. Well, it is thought that dogs have maintained this behavior throughout their evolution because as they are animals that form cohesive social groups, packs. If a dog gave birth and then died for whatever reason, her puppy didn't have to die because the rest of the dogs in the pack could continue nursing it. Well, guys, that's it for today's lesson, and I hope you've taken not. This is exam material, okay? However, this does not happen in cats. I support the theory that since they don't form such controversial social groups, they didn't have those needs. Oh, and what can you see if a psychological pregnancy or pseudo pregnancy appears on D? Well, normally you'll only see very specific changes in their behavior, like noticing them being a little more affectionate and attached to you. Another very curious behavior is that they may adopt some of their toys to satisfy that maternal instinct they have, put them in their bed with them and think that they are even their puppies. They don't have to be toys in the shape of a puppy. It could be one of your stuffed animals. It could be one of their balls. They can even become a little aggressive when defending it. It brings it. They want to separate you from me, but they never will. Another behavior they usually have is that they make a nest and act as if they are going to give birth. They first create an area of a bed where they feel comfortable and they don't usually leave there much. In other words, they usually spend a lot of time in their bed with the toys they have adopted inside. You may also notice that if you touch her tummy or her breasts may be a little bigger because they are full of milk. And they may also feel a little warmer to the touch. Well, everything I've told you should know that it lasts about 10 days and should disappear after that time. So in principle, you shouldn't give it much importance. But if you see that it doesn't disappear, after 10 days, you'll have to do something about it, because it could be causing her some problems. For example, a lot of milk could be retained in her breasts because logically, she doesn't have a puppy to extract it. This ends up causing mastitis that can even lead to an infection. But don't worry, it doesn't have to go to that extreme. Before that, there are many things you can do to help your little one, which I'll explain to you below. First of all, we have to make sure that your dog is not actually pregnant. It may seem silly, but this isn't the first time a family has thought their dog was pregnant and then given birth to a litter of puppies 60 days later. That's why I recommend that if you suspect your dog may be pregnant, you go to the vet so they can do the necessary tests to rule out the possibility that she is pregnant. Okay, now that we know your dog is not pregnant, the first thing I recommend you do is remove any toys she has adopted. This will reduce the maternal attitude she develops with them, and with it the need to continue secreting milk. Keep her entertained for longer. If you increase her physical activity, you will mean she spends less time in her bed and therefore won't be spending that time licking her teats. Mothers are fuller with milk. She notices it is more swollen and therefore licks it more. And this licking causes even more milk to be produced. It produces more milk. It produces more milk, and in the end that is the problem. That's why you need to go to the vet. You'll also be separating her from any toys she may have adopted. And with that we can redirect the situation and end this cycle of pseudo pregnancy. The next point may sound a bit strong. Restrict her water and food. Some publications suggest completely removing water. That seems outrageous to me. My recommendation is that you reduce her water intake by about half, because this will cause her to produce less milk. Other specialists also recommend that you fast your dog from food for a few days. What this achieves is that the body begins to notice that it lacks food and therefore produces less milk. Although I have never had to do this myself, and it seems excessive to me to leave your dog without food for several days. But anyway, since it's a method that some colleagues recommend and that they say works, I thought I had to tell you about it in this video. And finally, I recommend that if you have any questions, go to your vet. We can advise you on how you can best help your little one. And there are problems such as mastitis that can only be solved with medication, so you should always apply them under the supervision of a professional. In any case, if you want to avoid problems resulting from heat, such as phantom pregnancy, breast tumors, or infections in the uterus, you should opt for sterilization of your pet. It is a very simple operation that will prevent your dog from all these problems, and therefore it is the option that I always recommend. There is a belief that a dog has to be a mother to avoid this problem of phantom pregnancies. This is a myth because having been a mother in a previous pregnancy does not eliminate the possibility of your dog suffering from pseudo pregnancies in subsequent cycles. Okay, well, after all this, I think we've answered the question that our friend from Trkiller 69 asked us. Although since I ramble on like a blind, you can wind me up and I don't need any more. Let's try to summarize the question a little. Does it always reappear after the heat, or does it not necessarily happen? Well, I've already answered that pseudogestations do not appear in all heats, although the probability of suffering from it is quite high. And regarding the second question, can it only be solved by sterilization? Obviously, sterilization is the definitive solution and it will prevent your dog from suffering more because there is also the possibility of giving medications that inhibit the heat. But these can have consequences for your pet's health in the long term. Phew. Today has been intense, huh? And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with your family and friends. Remember that we have a group on Facebook, so join us. There are still very few of us in the group. We will be in closer contact and answer your questions. Oh, and last but not least, subscribe to the Happy Pets and Families channel. Thank you very much for following us and we will see you in the next video. Remember that on Facebook we have a group that you can join to be in closer contact with us. And now I always miss Kneller. The word is Neweller. We have a group in which there are still very few of us. What do I say there? We can be in closer contact. Okay. Okay. And I don't remember that. I said it was very pretty. No, it wasn't that pretty. It was the same as always. It doesn't matter. Okay, I said the Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro. Very pretty. Very pretty. A beautiful romance of sorts. I already told you in the other video that they couldn't have Guillermo del Toro's offspring. There can be whatever you want there. In the group, you will be able to tell us about your experiences with your animals, even ask us your questions. In the group, you will be able to tell us about your experience. In these cases, remember that you have. Wait, Look. In these cases, remember that you always have a veterinarian who can ask you. Why frown? Because in the group, you can tell us about your experience with animals, with your pets. Experience with your pets. And you can also ask. Why don't I say in the group? I think it's already clear what group there is. In the group, you can also ask any questions that may arise. Damn. I know it's a little difficult. In the group, you can ask any questions that may arise. And you can also ask us life's questions.
And you can also ask questions for us to answer. Does that sound good to you?
No.
Why not?
Why do you always make me repeat the group thing? You wanted a group. Take a group. Because having been a mother in a previous pregnancy does not eliminate the possibility of suffering from pseudo pregnancies in subsequent pregnancies, just as not suffering from pseudo pregnancies in previous pregnancies eliminates the possibility that your baby will ever suffer from it. I don't know what I got myself into.
