¿En serio quieres que tu GATO use tu WC? 🙀 🚽

This is a YouTube video titled "¿En serio quieres que tu GATO use tu WC? 🙀 🚽" created on May 27, 2020. It features Carlos, a clinical veterinarian specializing in small animals, discussing the topic of teaching cats to use the toilet instead of a litter box. The video covers the pros and cons of toilet training cats, emphasizing the emotional and physical well-being of cats, and advises against using toilet training kits for cats. The content is presented as a monologue with some informal and humorous remarks, aimed at cat owners considering this practice.
Totoro, since you don't use the litter box, I'm sure I'm going to have to teach you how to use the toilet. Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. And this is Totoro, the Amigurumi cat. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. In recent years, it has become very fashionable to try to teach our cats to use the litter box. In fact, we many families are increasingly considering it. But is it really a good idea? You've written many comments on some of my videos, asking me what my position is on whether or not cats should use this type of system to eliminate. And that's why we're making this video in stores that sell things for our cats. You'll have seen that there are some kits that are very, very practical in theory, to be able to teach your cats to use the toilet. These kits consist of a plastic ring and then other concentric rings. Go inside so that you can put it on yourself and adapt it to the bowl of your toilet so that your cat can climb in and gradually learn. Well, this is not a tutorial to teach you how to use the kits. I just want to tell you that they exist. And that is why many people also think, hey, it seems to me that my cat can use this. This way I save having to have a litter box at home. This. This way I save having to buy litter. They are all advantages, right? I always ask myself the same question when these things happen. Does your cat really need this? Cats are used to doing their business in the litter box practically instinctively. In fact, it is one of the first things that kittens learn to do. As soon as they have a box with litter and some substrate nearby, they know that they have to go there to eliminate. That is why I think that in this case, perhaps your cat does not need to learn to do their business on the toilet. This is precisely one of those things that pops up from time to time and that denatures our animal companions. That's why I'm not very much in favor of it. Of course, now some smart aleck will come along and tell me if our animal companions are already denatured, they won't live free and wild like they used to. Sure, but they haven't lived free and wild like they did 10,000 years ago, which is when cats were domesticated. It's not the same if a domestication process has been going on for 10,000 years, as if you suddenly want your cat to do its business in the toilet for own convenience. The truth is that there's no comparison for cats. Doing their business in an area with sand, in an area with a substrate that they can then cover, is part of their own emotional well being and part of their being balanced. If your cat is programmed to cover its poop with its litter box and can't do it, it's going to be very frustrating for it because it's just another activity that cats have to do, like marking areas of the house with their claws. When I told you how you could teach your cat not to mark your furniture, I said that you have to teach it to do so in specific places for that purpose, because that's part of its emotional well being. These types of gadgets, these types of things that we're going to put in the house aren't really helping them at all. Obviously, your cat might get used to it, and mind you, I might not be in favor of it, but this is just my personal opinion. You obviously don't have to share it. In addition to all this, you might also think it's a good idea when your cat is young, when your cat is still agile enough to climb onto the toilet. But we can't forget that our animal companions end up getting old, and by the end of their lives, they're much less agile. In fact, many cats end up developing arthritis. And one of the ways we start to suspect that cats have arthritis is because they used to climb to high places and now they have suddenly decided to stop doing so because they can no longer jump because their joints hurt. What are we going to do with your cat whim? After all its life, knowing that things can be done in the toilet, it can no longer climb up. What will happen to your cat? Will it be able to continue doing them? Will it have to learn when it gets older that it has to do them in the litter box? How are we going to manage this situation? Because in recent years we have been teaching cats to do it there, but perhaps we have not yet encountered this difficulty because these cats have not yet become adults or. Yes, but then we have to retrain them, right? Of course. But retraining a cat when it is already 14 years old is not that easy. This can cause your cat to retain urine for longer because it can prevent them from going up there to pee, which can ultimately lead to other health problems, such as cystitis. So you may need to consider this before making a decision. Another thing is that you will need to get used to always leaving the lids on properly. For these kits, you will need to always leave the lid up and the rim and rim lid down, because otherwise your cat will not be able to lean on it. For example, if you go to work one day and for whatever reason you sit on the toilet with the lid down and forget, your cat will not be able to do their business the whole time you are away from home. Or if, for example, a guest comes to your house who is in the habit of putting the lid down, your cat will not be able to access their elimination area freely. And this can also cause them quite a few health problems. And to finish off with the things that I see as the most negative, maybe you're trying to get your cat to do it inside the toilet so you don't have to have a litter box to prevent the litter box from smelling in your house or to avoid spending money on litter. But if you're doing it to prevent the litter box from flying around in your house, it seems like a bad idea to me, because your cat will learn to do it inside the toilet and it will fall into the water, but your cat won't be able to flush the toilet when you're not home. You won't be able to evacuate it from the toilet bowl. And in the end, it will end up smelling more than if you had it inside a litter box. Because after all, inside the litter box covered with sand and all the sand around it, the smell will also stay inside and not spread throughout the house. And I have a question. Is it hygienic for humans, sitting on a toilet that a cat has used can bring some type of disease or problems. Okay, so these aren't usually what's known as indoor cats, meaning they live inside the house and walk on the floor and that's it. Their paws aren't very dirty because they don't go outside. But it's true that you have to reinforce hygiene a little more. And you have to consider that after all, your cat is walking around there. But hey, if, for example, you don't mind them getting on the couch or sleeping with you in bed and so on, this doesn't have to be a big problem for you. Just maybe clean them a little more and that's it. From all this that I'm telling you, you've already seen that I'm quite against it because it's not beneficial for your cat, neither for its health nor emotionally. In fact, it can even harm it. It's just another one of those many things that we humans do for our own comfort. And in the end, we're not looking for the cat's comfort because For a cat, the most comfortable thing is to go into its litter box, do its business, and cover it up. I'm not saying that it could be some kind of insurmountable problem for the cat in terms of its behavior and so on. I'm just telling you that these are implications that we just have to consider. But if it bothers you that your cat does cat things, well, hey, that's why you should have a cat like Totoro. He won't do cat things to you. Right, Totoro? You see, he won't give you problems with the litter box or learning to do things in the toilet or anything. And you'll be able to have him without having to feed him or anything like that. He just use the toilet, Totoro. So don't be lazy and let your cat do his business in the litter box. You'll only have to clean it once or twice a day. It's not like the work of Hercules. Let's go. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone. There's a red button below that's calling you. And we also have a secondary channel here on YouTube called Questions and Answers from a veterinarian. Esperanza Justo introduces us to her little Sana. She says that she's very mischievous and adorable and that she loves our videos on YouTube. Celine introduced us to Mia, and, well, here she is, who is a huge follower of our Instagram, and we follow hers. And finally, here we have Marianne introducing us to her tiger kitten that was taken in by a shelter. Very well done, Marianne. Thank you very much for following the channel, Happy pets and Families. And I'll see you in the next video. Video. I'm telling you this video so that you know, it's going to be called do you seriously want to teach your cat to do its business on vc? Is that okay with you? Oh, I was going to say something else here, but. Oh, well. But that was just for the little sentence. I don't care what you think is best. And it's not that I'm not changing clothes. It's just that we recorded three videos on the same day. Oh, I'm glad that we're going to record all three videos. Hey, you know, it's horrible to have Totoro here. I'm sorry that this idea that you had has now taken hold of you. I don't understand it. I'm more concerned with the cat than with what I have to say. Come on. Okay. Give it to me, Totoro. Bye, many of you. Oh, oh. Totoro left. Totoro had an emergency. He had to go to the bathroom. Let's see. Let's see. Because as I was telling you, I'm against it and Jose is boycotting me. But anyway, why? Do I sound stupid? Just kidding. Just kidding. Not to say something else, right? You'll see how you're going to start telling me, oh, what a bad actor you are. Look, I'm telling you not to buy a gadget, and I'm going against the evil industry so that they can tell me that later. Only veterinarians want to sell you things. It's just that you take me out of my comfort zone and I get lost. Yeah, that's what happens to me. That my heart is too big to contain nothing. I just want to sell you on the idea that your cat is healthy and emotionally balanced and that you shouldn't make him do his business where he doesn't belong. And before continuing with this interesting and scatological topic, what I had left to see was cats using vc. Oh, I'm such a poet. Okay.
