Cats natural habitat is rural areas. They've always been in rural areas near people. Now when we have a cat in an apartment, we don't have any kind of stimulation, so we have to provide it for them. They spend many hours alone, or perhaps in the company of felines, but usually they spend quite a few hours alone. The most important thing we can provide for them is to have windows, balconies or terraces that are always protected where they can smell, see birds, see other animals, see people on the street, and have constant stimuli. That means that if the cat has this series of stimuli all day long, is entertained by watching other things or playing with other things, and it may not be so boring for the cat to spend a day inside the house, for example, regarding toys, it depends on the cat. Each cat has a different personality. We always have the idea that cats really like heights. It is true that especially shy cats or very active cats like to stay up high. They feel safe. But not all cats like heights. So if we have this type of cat, it is a good idea to put beds on the walls, for example. They don't have to be small beds, they can be shelves, for example. They like to sleep high and soft. But we also have to have a series of toys. The ideal toys for cats are rods, for example, extendable rods, ribbons, strings, things that make them hunt because they are predators. The worst thing we can do is play with a cat with our hands. When we have small kittens, it's lovely to be able to play with your hands because they're so funny. But when they're two years old, they might bite you and it won't be so funny anymore. The best thing to do is play with sticks. It's ideal for having a balanced and calm cat. Calm in terms of personality. They can be very active cats, even if they're very old. So we have to try to make the moments we spend with them fun, depending on the cat in the way they like to play. There will be cats that like to play with these ribbons that we mentioned. There will be cats that love tunnels. There will be cats that really like hand to hand combat with other cats, playing tag, for example. And they don't have to be small kittens. Small kittens. If we have a small kitten, for example, and we see that the game we give it isn't enough, it may be crying out for a feline companion because they love playing these types of hand to hand games. When we talk about environmental enrichment, we usually always talk about that, about how to disguise your home as a feline paradise. But we're not just talking about that either. Environmental enrichment is those stimuli. Therefore, playing with our cat every day can make our cat a more balanced cat. If a cat doesn't feel like we're spending time with it, it can get bored.
