Esto es IMPORTANTE | ¡Estamos usando mal los #antibióticos! 🤦💊

Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, and Jose explain how antibiotic misuse creates drug-resistant bacteria. Taking antibiotics without a prescription or stopping early when you feel better are the main culprits. Resistant infections kill hundreds of thousands of people yearly and make common surgeries dangerous.
What? What's up? Weren't you expecting me here today? No, that's normal, because it's Sunday. But come on, come on, because I have something very important to tell you. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel Sunday Edition. If you still don't know what I'm doing here, it's because today is World Health Day, April 7. And as a veterinarian and veterinarians in general, we have a lot to say on this day. So I've come today to celebrate it with you. You brought a milkshake and confetti. Today, I'm not here to talk to you about your dog or your cat or other animals. Today is a very important day for me to talk to you about something which is antibiotic resistance. I don't know if you're aware of this problem. Bacteria all over the world are becoming resistant. They are surviving the use of antibiotics. And that is happening because we are increasingly using them indiscriminately and we are applying them situations where they are either not necessary or are being used incorrectly. And you might say this becoming resistant thing is a bit strange. How does it happen? Bacteria have the ability to, so to speak, teach other bacteria to resist the use of antibiotics. That happens when there is a bacterium that, when you apply an antibiotic, survives that antibiotic. And then that bacterium that already knows how to escape the use of the antibiotic will teach the rest of the bacteria how to do it. So when we go to apply the antibiotic to those other bacteria, they will know how to survive it. The influencer bacteria, the YouTuber bacteria. And you might say, no, I'm super responsible when it comes to taking antibiotics. I always take them when the doctor recommends them, and I take them on the days the doctor tells me to. And when you feel a little under the weather, you don't take them on your own. But this doesn't just depend on what you do. It depends on what we all do as a society. Because if you do it right, but there's someone next to you who takes antibiotics when they shouldn't, takes them for three days and then suddenly stops taking them because they feel better. They don't even go to the doctor to get them prescribed them. They just look in the medicine cabinet and take the first thing they find. Their bacteria will become resistant, and that bacteria will be able to affect you when you get infected by resistant bacteria, even if you've been doing it right your whole life. When we give it bacteria Antibiotics, they won't kill it and therefore their infection will be much more serious. So what? A social alarm. Social alarm? There is already a social alarm. How well I did it. Laughing at you. There is already a social alarm? Yes. It is thought that by the year 2050, antibiotic resistance will kill more people than cancer. More than 10 million people a year in the world. How great. That's why you have me here on a Sunday. What I have come to do is to raise awareness and tell you what you can do to prevent this from becoming the case. The first thing is that you do not think that everything can be solved with an antibiotic. A small flu, a cold that is not complicated and will not get worse. Those types of processes in which you know that if you take a little more care of yourself for three or four days, everything will be fine. Drinking warm broth, staying a little more sheltered from the cold at home, etc. In those types of processes, you do not have to take antibiotics. In any case, you could go to the doctor to see if it is necessary to apply antibiotics there, but never on your own. On your own? Never. Do you want an antibiotic? No. Please. Another thing you have to do is that if your doctor or vet recommends a treatment, you. You have to follow it until the end, until the last moment that he tells you to take it. If he tells you it's for seven days, it's for seven days. It's not worth it if you start giving it to your dog, because who knows, he has dermatitis. As soon as you start to see that his skin is fine, then cut it off. Because there will be bacteria that have survived. You will have killed many of them, but there will be some that survive the antibiotic because they haven't been exposed long enough or because the dose wasn't high enough to kill them. And those bacteria are really worrying because in the future they could develop greater resistance and also become influencer bacteria and communicate it to the rest. You also have to know that there are many types of bacteria. There are. Well, I was going to tell you. Who knows? I can't tell you the amount of bacteria there are. All those types of bacteria have a series of weaknesses that are specific to them. And for each of them a specific type of antibiotic must be used. And this brings me to the most important point, which is that you cannot recommend antibiotics to anyone just because they have worked well for your dog or for you. Because surely you are doing it with the best of intentions, with the idea of helping the dog heal from the problem it has or that cat. But it is possible that in this case it will not work because you do not know what problem it really has. That is irresponsible. Without going any further, the other day in the group that we have on Facebook, someone asked for help for a problem that his cat had in one eye. And, well, another person recommended that he had to apply a specific eye drop that also has an antibiotic. When I saw the whole thread, I wrote to him and told him that I did not think it was responsible. And I have even had to see that later. The person I told this to felt a little attacked and I have seen a little suspense because. And that is why I do not recommend any medicine through the Internet, because I do not know none of the cases, I don't examine the patients, and I know absolutely nothing about the medical history or the problem that people usually tell me. It's not that I don't want to help you, it's just that I assure you that the best thing I can do for you is to recommend that you go to the vet's office. The reason for this channel, the reason for the Facebook group, the reason for the page or the Instagram, is to raise animal awareness. And applying antibiotics left and right is not going to help anyone in the long term. Not your dog, not your cat, not you. So as a conclusion for today, which is World Health Day, what I want us all to take away is that you don't have to apply antibiotics without the supervision of a veterinarian or a doctor. It's up to all humans to be able to use antibiotics responsibly. And I'm sorry for having thrown such an unfun party and for having told you something that is really worrying. But anyway, I understand that it is part of my job as a veterinarian to raise awareness and that if we all raise awareness and spread this message as if we were bacterial influencers, but for good we can do that. The future I told you about before changes for the better. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like. Remember to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already, and share this video with everyone, because this information needs to be known. Also hit the bell. So YouTube will notify you every time we upload new content. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel and I'll see you in the next video. Look, I do like to end my videos with these things people write to me on Instagram. By the way, I Love your videos. Both in your opinion, Carlos, when it comes to explaining and telling stories in Jose, when he produces videos, I'm still dying of laughter at the end of toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasma. Toxoplasma. What is toxoplasma? Toxoplasma. Toxoplasma. By the way, you may have said somewhere that you were from Plaquencia. My father did his military service there. And I said, come on. And a little smile. Thank you. And a hug. Well, yes, I'm from Plaquencia and I'm sure you've seen it in the video about feline colonies, which is a video that I recommend you watch because it tells us about the work that Maria Jose does with a colony that lives in her neighborhood. Well, Placentia is a beautiful place. And if you haven't been there, I recommend that you go there too, because, well, you can take your father if your father has memories of what Millie did there. And hey, it's always good to remember. Plus, it has a lot of really cool places to see around Plaquentia. In fact, well, I appear in some videos on other channels showing a bit of the valleys that are around Plaquentia.
By the way, Jose, don't stop recording on your channel because we have to greet a follower, Pawnee, who reminded us that we had to greet her when it was time to talk about Mexico. And well, when we greeted the people of Mexico, we forgot to greet you, Bonnie, and your cat who thinks he's a dog. Oh, well, wait, this continues. Since we forgot to greet you. You send a check mark to me and your cat who thinks he's a dog. And another to Jose. You also have a check mark, Jose. I hope you remove the check mark, Bonnie, because we're greeting you in this video. A greeting to you and your cat who thinks he's a dog. Okay, let's start.
No, higher up. Okay, move the camera a little. I was going to do it like this. I did it like this. I don't know why. Down. So that's the face I have. Is it a little Picasso esque or. I don't know.
No, it will be Picasso esque, but it also gives you a mustache, like Hill.
Of course, because I have a nose and it shadows my nose. What do I do? I do it like this. I can do backflips, but. Well, that would be funny to see. Well, come on, come on. I have to tell you something very interesting, important. What? Nothing, it just looked like this.
