Some trainers say that the only ones having fun at that moment are the dogs. Hello and welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. I'm Carlos. I'm a clinical veterinarian for small animals. And today we're going to talk about Frida's case and how a trainer manages to get a dog to rescue a person. Over the last month we've been following the news from Mexico about the terrible earthquake that devastated a large part of the country. As a result of these sad events, we've come to know the beautiful story of Frida, a rescue dog, A Labrador retriever who has managed to rescue a large number of people from under the rubble. This is Frida. I'm sure you know her from social media because she's become very famous since her role in the earthquake in Mexico. She's a seven year old Labrador retriever and her job is to be a rescue dog. Rescue dogs are trained to find survivors under the rubble after a natural disaster. For people who find themselves under the rubble, these four legged heroes are their only hope. As you can see in the photo, Frida is fully equipped with eye protectors, paw protectors and a vest to be able to rescue a person safely. The process of rescuing a person is like a game for these dogs because they have been trained for it. Some trainers say that the only ones who are having fun at that moment are the dogs. Frida is now seven years old and has rescued more than 50 people throughout her life. Not only in the earthquake in Mexico, but also in other natural disasters that have occurred in America. Well done, Frida. I would do this. I would touch and scratch him like this. Very good, Frida. Although rescue dogs retire at around seven years of age, if they continue to perform well, they may retire in a few more years. Years. So Frieda will still be able to save quite a few people. But how do you train a dog to rescue people? Training a rescue dog is not a simple process and it begins to develop when the animal is still a puppy. This process will continue throughout the dog's life because during this time, the trainer and the dog will always work together, forming a team that is inseparable during the time the animal is involved in rescue work and will always work with the same trainer. The process of recognizing where people are buried after a natural disaster is like a game for the dog, because it has been a game during its training. The way the animal learns to rescue is by hiding with its trainer and the dog finding it. When it finds the trainer, it barks. The trainer goes out to where it is hiding and plays with it in this way, when the animal is in the area where it has to look for people who may have been buried under rubble. In natural disasters, it only has to find those people who are hidden under the rubble. When it detects that there are people under the surface, it will bark so that they come out and play with it. And the rescue team will be able to know where to look. But do you know which dogs can be dedicated to being rescuers? The truth is that there is no clear answer and there is no breed to indicate which dog can be a rescuer. The only condition is that the animal likes to play with people. If that animal is affectionate and playful, it is it is suitable to be a rescuer. Not just any animal or any size. Obviously large dogs could cause the rubble to move and bury people even more. And for small dogs, it could be risky to move through large amounts of rubble. Therefore, the breeds that are best suited to this job are Labradors, such as Frida Coli, or medium sized dogs. Approximately 20 kilogram. They are dogs that can get through cracks well and can find people who are not visible to rescue teams. As you have seen from the photos, the equipment that the dogs carry is quite complete. This way they can work safely. The way they are able to work is by wearing visors or goggles to protect their eyes from sharp objects. They also have boots on their front paws so that they do not suffer any damage when moving on sharp surfaces. They are also equipped with a chest protector that provides greater resistance to blows that may occur in the rubble. And what happens to these animals when they retire? When the dog is no longer old enough to continue doing its job, or its physical condition does not allow it, it will retire from service, but it will not retire from its trainer, because the trainer is already part of its family and the bond that has been established with it is so important that it is impossible to break it. Most animals are usually adopted by the trainer who has worked with them all their lives, and they become part of their immediate family. In this way, they will no longer play at finding people who are hidden underground, but will instead play in the park like other dogs. So although we often refer to humans as selfish beings who use animals for their own benefit, in the case of rescue dogs, their use is probably the most beautiful. They enjoy doing what they do, and as the true heroes that they are, if we asked them, they would surely be happy to continue helping us. And that's it for today's video. If you enjoyed learning about Frieda's story. Give it a like and share it with your family and friends. Because that way you help us continue uploading videos to the channel. And she has been rescuing animals her entire working life. Working life? No, since I'm the last one. Oh, I know that. Kali.
