Foreign Goodbye. Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. I'm sure that, like me, you love animals. And it's also certain that more than once you've been walking down the street and found an abandoned kitten. Of course your heart breaks and you couldn't help but rescue it, take it home and care for it as it deserves. In this situation, and especially if you haven't had much contact with cats, you'll have a lot of questions and you won't always have someone nearby who can help you. But don't worry, that's what I'm here for. I anticipated this problem and made this video to answer all your questions. If you're ready, let's get started. Rescuing kittens from the street is something that anyone can do out of humanity. But when you get home, you'll have doubts. What do you do first? Do you bathe them? Do you feed them? Do you keep them warm? Do you watch my videos on YouTube to learn a lot? That's always good, right? No one said it was easy. But in this video, I'm going to give you some tips to help the cats you've just rescued from the streets grow up healthy and strong. What's wrong with you? Today we're going to be joined by Jade and her offspring, Merengue, Oreo, Coco and Trufa. Jade is the mother of these four kittens who was rescued from the streets when she was still pregnant because Rokio, her new family, didn't want her to have her kittens out in the street with the risks that entails. Today we've come to visit them, and while we're there, we're going to tell you about the care you need to give a kitten you've just rescued from the streets. If you find a kitten on the street, you have to look at its external appearance. Above all, look at its eyes to see if it has any eye discharge. Also, look inside its ears to see if it has earwax. You can also look at its mouth to find out how old it is. As you can see, Coco already has some small fangs, which indicates that he is approximately 1 1/2 months old. Indeed, he and his siblings were born last March. You should also look at his butt to see if he has diarrhea or not. With this first glance, you will be able to know, for example, how old the kittens are. Kittens are born with their eyes closed and completely deaf. Therefore, they are isolated from the outside world. If the kitten you just found has its eyes closed, it indicates that it is less than 10 days old. If the kitten you just found already has its eyes open and has small fangs in its mouth, it means that it is approximately between three weeks and a month old. All this about age is very important because depending on the age of the cat, its care will be very different. If the kitten is less than 10 days old, it may not thrive, but do not be discouraged because we are going to try. By all means. Once you have rescued them and brought them home, the first thing you need to think about is where they are going to be giving them a shelter so that they are well protected. If the kittens are over a month old, what you can do is find a warm room in the house and put their bed there. If you want, you can initially use a cardboard box with a very warm blanket inside. There are also other options, such as using some type of playpen or enclosure for small children to keep them inside, and that way you have a little more control over them. If they are under a month old, and especially if the kitten has not yet opened its eyes, you will have to be very careful that they do not lose heat. Therefore, in the bed where you have them, in a cardboard box or in a bed that has already been prepared, you should try to introduce a source of heat. These sources of heat can be a hot water bottle from the tap or a hot water bottle. I do not recommend electric blankets. They can have some type of fault in the thermostat and can cause very serious burns to the cat. To check if the hot water bottle or bag is hot enough, put your hand over it and if you don't feel burned after 30 seconds, then it's suitable for your kittens. With these heat sources, you need to ensure that the temperature of the bed or basket where you have them doesn't drop below 37. But you have to be very careful with this because once a client put a bag on her cat that she hadn't checked and it turned out to be very hot and in the end the poor thing got burned. So be very careful. If you want a fun tip, you can try putting an analog clock, an alarm clock when you give them the bottle. This way you will make it easier for them to swallow the milk properly. If the kitten is over a month old, what you have to do is give them food that is specifically made for them. You can try moistening or mashing the food a little to make it smaller and offer it to them to eat little by little when they are around. 45 days old, they will surely be able to eat dry, whole food. Not only does the kitten have to eat, but they also have to relieve themselves properly. When kittens are very young, their mother licks their private areas to encourage them to pee and poo. But since their mother is not around, you are going to have to do it. And no, I'm not telling you to do it with your tongue, but rather use a small piece of gauze or a damp cloth and wipe it over their tummy and bottom. Although Oreo already has his mother, Jade, to stimulate him and he doesn't need us to do it for him, I'm going to give you a little demonstration so you can see how it should be done. When they're very young, they it's important to stimulate them after each meal. You can use a pee pad, a towel to prevent them from dirtying the floor. And it's all about giving them little massages, okay? On their baby areas, also a little on their belly, but also on their parts. Okay? I'm going to give you a tip that we vets keep to ourselves. Don't get tired of stimulating them, because sometimes it may seem like they're only peeing and don't feel like pooping. That means you haven't stimulated them enough. Normally, you're going to have to rub those areas with the damp cloth for a longer time, albeit gently, until they finally poop. People come to me at the clinic and say, no, no, if I stimulate them, I do that a little bit and they pee a little, but they never poop, and that's because they haven't spent enough time stimulating their butt area. When you stimulate them, you have to do it until they poop, because that's what they find most difficult. It's going to take a while to get them to poop. Depending on whether they're more or less constipated, it could take up to five or 10 minutes. So don't get tired of it before then and don't stop doing it. This is a very important point, so you have to make sure you know how to do it. And if you have any questions, ask your vet. Unfortunately, there are many kittens that are abandoned, but fortunately there are more and more sensitive people who rescue them. Today I wanted to talk to you about this topic because many people who rescue a cat because they are humane and don't want anything bad to happen to it, don't know how to behave with it during the first few days of its life that it spends in their home, since the authorities have not taken action on the issue of abandoned animals. It is up to caring people like you to rescue animals and save them from the streets. And I, who am in charge of animal health, can only thank you for your work because you do a great good for society. I'm sure you have many questions when it comes to caring for your newly arrived kitten. I hope I have answered some of them. If you can think of any more questions to ask me about your newborn or newly arrived kitten, write them to me in the comments. But in spite of everything, remember that a veterinarian has to attend to it and examine it to make sure it is in good health. And that's it for today's video. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel. And I'll see you in the next video. It's just that with this eye, it's worse, huh? Yes, with that eye. Okay, this video with cats and cables. You even snored at me. Because I see worse with one eye than with the other. Because this is my lazy eye and this is my normal eye. So if I close one of my eyes, this one closes because those teeth. Those teeth drill. Come on. No, no, no, no. I see less through this eye. That's why the beast attacks me sooner. Yes, Jade, the opposite of what you want me to do here is the opposite. With this eye, I have to use more force than with this one. How strong? How cold. Holy crap. I'll take the siren away from you. No, no. It looks like I'm winking. It looks like you're a cat that has partridges. Needs. Doing their needs correctly. You have to do their needs correctly. Needs. But if I say it right, why doesn't it come out there when I say it?
