This is a YouTube video titled "Gato exótico de pelo corto - Una de las razas de GATOS MÁS CARIÑOSAS" created in August 2018. The content is an expert narration describing the exotic shorthair cat breed, covering its origin, physical characteristics, temperament, care requirements, and health considerations. The video aims to inform viewers about this affectionate and family-friendly cat breed.
The exotic shorthair cat closely resembles the Persian cat except for its coat, which is genetically justified because it is the result of a cross between American shorthair Persians and British shorthairs. This particular breed has equal parts vitality and tranquility, making it the ideal companion animal for families with children as it loves life at home and spending hours and hours cuddling and playing. If you want to know more about this adorable and distinctive kitty, we'll tell you all about it in this animal expert video. Don't miss it. As we mentioned, exotic shorthair cats come from a cross between Persians and American or British shorthairs. This mix gave rise to a breed that rose to Fame in the 1960s and 1970s. However, although it was established as a breed in 1967, it was not until 1986 that the Fife officially recognized it as a breed, establishing its standards. We are therefore dealing with a relatively new breed of cat. It is said that the first person to cross an American shorthair with a Persian was Jane Marchinkai, who was a judge of cat breeds and got the CFA to create a separate category for these felines, since until then they had been considered a variation of the Persian. The following year they made their debut at shows where they were given the name of exotic shorthair. Like the Persian, the head of the exotic shorthair is flat and flattened right, with the sucker sticking out in a fairly wide skull with a short, wide nose with large open nostrils. Their eyes are an intense pure color, usually matching their coat color. For example, they are usually gold or copper, except in the Golden Chinchilla varieties, since the specimens with this coat color have green eyes or in the color point are white cats that have blue eyes. There is a classification of exotic shorthair cats that differentiates them according to how short their face is. Traditional specimens would have a flatter snout and a longer nose than their counterparts classified as extreme, the latter being more prone to suffering from mandibular and respiratory pathologies typical of Persians. Their weight ranges between 3 and 6 kilogram. Their legs are short and like the rest of the body, they are wide and robust with marked musculature. Their tail is short, rounded and thick. The coat of the exotic shorthair cat, despite being longer than other shorthaired breeds, is far from reaching the length of a Persian. All Persian coats and patterns are accepted, both solid and bicolor. This cat is considered one of the most family oriented and affectionate feline breeds. Perhaps this is why loneliness is so devastating to them, affecting them so negatively that it can cause various diseases in addition to being affectionate, this type of cat is calm and very docile, so it will not be difficult to train them and even get them to learn some tricks. It is also an intelligent, loyal feline that is generally very easy to live with in harmony. It also gets along great with other animals. Among the care that we should give our exotic shorthair cat is regular brushing, which, although it does not require as much time and care as the Persian, still needs to be brushed to avoid hairballs. In turn, both internal and external deworming must be carried out, especially in those animals that have access to the outdoors or that have been recently adopted. In addition, as with all breeds, care must be taken with its diet and it must be provided with an adequate and balanced diet to ensure that our feline is healthy and strong, as well as offering adequate environmental enrichment with toys and scratching posts. This last point can greatly help us to keep the cat entertained in our absence since it is worth remembering that it does not tolerate solitude very well. Finally, it is worth noting that its eyes water quite a bit, so it is recommended to clean them with a sterile gauze moistened with physiological saline solution on a regular basis. They are usually healthy and robust cats, however, the different issues regarding their health should not be overlooked. Due to their short flat face, exotics can suffer from respiratory problems typical of short faced breeds. However, the number of cases is significantly lower than that of their predecessors, the Persians. Excessive tearing in their eyes can cause the eye area to rust which can be a source of infection. Therefore, we must pay close attention to their eyes and clean them properly. They are also relatively prone to suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which is due to incorrect development of the heart. For all these reasons, it is recommended to carry out frequent veterinary check ups in addition to taking care of their teeth, eyes and ears and following the vaccination schedule established by our trusted veterinarian. If we give our exotic shorthair cat all the care it needs, we will have a balanced, affectionate feline by our side willing to accompany us for an average of 15 years, although they can live even longer. And that's it for today's video. If you enjoyed it, don't forget to give it a like and subscribe until next time. Experts.
