¿Hay que CAMBIAR el ALIMENTO de los GATOS para que no se ABURRAN de su comida? 🥘😼🍲

Carlos, a veterinarian, explains whether cats actually get bored with their food and if you need to switch their diet. He covers why cats refuse food, what balanced nutrition looks like for them, and how health problems can affect appetite.
Okay, Totoro, between you and me, cats, do you get bored of always eating the same thing? Because people ask me that a lot. Well, today we're going to talk about whether or not you need us to change your cat's food. Hi, I'm Carlos and I'm a veterinarian. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. And I'm very hoarse. Sorry, but we have to record. Many of you are concerned about how to feed your feline companion properly. But you also ask me a lot if your cat can get bored of its food or if it's bad for them to always eat the same thing. And since I'm here to serve you, we're basically going to answer precisely those questions. First of all, is it bad for my cat to always eat the same thing? There are two types of answers. The short answer, right. Well, a slightly more elaborate answer, because that's why you're watching the video, right? As long as your cat has a diet that meets all of its needs and that contains the nutrients that your cat needs to survive and be healthy, there are some diets that may be deficient in some amino acids that are essential for cats, such as taurine. It would not be good for your cat to eat these types of diets in the long term. However, if you feed your cat quality food, I don't care if it's a diet that you make at home, as long as it's formulated by a specialist who knows what your cat needs, or if it's a good quality commercial diet with dry food kibble, well balanced. You know what I always say? Well, in those cases, if the diet meets their needs, there would be no problem if they ate it their whole life. Well, you might ask, how do I know that my cat is eating everything it needs to. On the channel, we've already talked about this, about how to recognize by the label that the feed carrot kibble are the best for your feline companion. I'll leave all that and much more below in the description box. Well, I'm referring to commercial diets, the ones that come in bags. Because if you want to give your cat homemade food, a diet that you make at home for him, you often ask me in the comments, hey, what could I give my cat so that he's well nourished? Hey, what does my cat need? What foods can I cook for my cat? In these cases, the only person who can give you the answer is a professional, a veterinarian who knows the specific diet your cat needs to eat. Because I obviously don't Know your cat and it may have very specific needs. And I think it's very irresponsible for someone to go online and recommend how to cook for your feline companion without knowing your cat, without having weighed it or knowing what kind of body condition it has. Our cat's diets must be taken very seriously, and if you make them at home, you have to know very well what you're doing. But anyway, we start from the premise that your cat is eating what it needs. Therefore there's no need to change its type of food. Every so often, your cat will usually get bored of what it's eating. It's a different thing if you start to see that your cat isn't eating its entire ration and you think it's getting bored, but it's probably for another reason. When have I detected that you think your. Is your cat getting bored of his food? Well, when he leaves the food he's been eating on his plate, and if you put something else in front of him, he goes for that other thing, you see that he hasn't finished his bowl and you say, oh my gosh, he must be hungry. Come on, I'm going to make him this. My mother would say to me, shall I fry you an egg? Well, we offer our cat other things that are much more appetizing to him, and therefore he puts aside the food he usually eats. Because what you usually give him is not exactly healthy. They are usually foods with a lot of fat, foods much juicier than the food your cat usually eats. Something softer, a piece of meat, a bit of cold cuts. And then your cat, who is not stupid, normally prefers that to dry food. But there is also another reason why your cat, so to speak, gets bored of his food. And it may have to do with the fact that you do not know how to give him a reward. Many of our feline companions have treats at home as if it were an all you can eat buffet. Every now and then you have a treat, and usually the treats are made to be more appetizing so that the cat likes them and therefore eats them. These treats do not usually have a balanced composition. They are treats that have a large amount of fat so that the cat likes them more, get their attention more. If you don't know when to give your feline companion a treat, you're probably giving them too much. And so your cat is saving that treat for himself and prefers to leave his food aside. But that doesn't mean he's bored of his food, but rather that he's waiting for something else that he probably likes much more, because he knows that in the end he'll fall for it, especially if he doesn't eat what's on his plate. Your cat is manipulating you. And don't worry, because giving your cat a treat isn't rocket science either. You don't need to have a lot of knowledge, just a few very clear concepts that I've already explained to you on the channel. And I'll leave the video below. And now you'll tell me. Okay, Carlos, I admit it. I've been doing it wrong. I've been giving him other things. My cat doesn't eat his food anymore, and there's no way. How can I turn this situation around? Well, it's not that hard in this case. I do recommend that you change the type of flavor of the feed or kibble that your cat is eating, because this way it is possible to stimulate the cat's curiosity a little more to try something new and thus return to eating its dry food. This will require on your part that you find a food that meets all its needs and, of course, that you do not repeat the mistakes of the past. How should you do it? Well, do not leave the bowl with the new feed there so that the cat starts to eat it by itself. Perhaps the first few days it would not be so bad if you mixed it with something a little more appetizing, such as a can. You could put a couple of spoonfuls of canned food on top of the feed so that it gets a little moist and catches the cat's attention. And then little by little, you can reduce the amount of kibble and it only stays with its dry food. And I know that many of you have been through this. How have you managed the situation with your feline companion? Well, leave me a comment, because it will probably help a lot of people who are watching the video, and let me get a little more veterinary like. But I just can't stop talking about this. There are other reasons why your cat won't eat what's on its plate. Oh, that's kind of rhyming. It has to do, of course, with illnesses. And the thing is, when cats are sick or in pain, the first thing they stop doing is eating. Some very typical illnesses could mean that your cat isn't eating everything it should. These could be diseases, for example, in the liver or pancreas. These cats tend to be a little chubby, a little overweight. These cats also tend to suffer from diarrhea and vomiting, and some parts of their body, such as Their gums, or the little white part by their eye can turn a little yellow. But there's more. Some cats suffer from kidney diseases also cause them to eat less than they should. How can you suspect this? Your cat will generally be thin and will often vomit. They will also pee less or almost nothing, or they will pee very, very large, and you will see that it is watery. The pee will look very clear, very clear. The cat has bad kidneys and does not concentrate urine well. In addition, these cats with kidney problems drink more water. They are always very thirsty. And other diseases that cause a cat to stop eating well logically have to do with the mouth. If your cat has sore gums, sore teeth, if they are a little older and have not had very, very thorough oral hygiene throughout their life, it is very possible that they are no longer eating everything you leave on their plate simply because they find it very, very hard and it bothers them to eat it. These cats may have pain when you touch this area, or they may drool a lot, excessively, even a little brownish. You can see that if your cat is a light color, the area around the mouth becomes stained. Therefore, if you think that your cat is bored of eating its food, you have to do two basic things. First, check yourself to see if you are giving it too many treats or if you are always giving it something more appetizing than its food bowl. And the second is to see if something has changed in your cat, if it is losing a lot of weight, if it is vomiting, if there is anything that catches your attention, and focusing a little on the first part, the part where we are responsible. Many times you want to give your feline companion food that is a little beyond its means, especially varieties of food that are far beyond its means. It is true that on the market we have a very wide variety of types of food, of products that our feline companion may like. But that great variety is generally produced by companies for us because we are projecting a human need onto our cat, a need for variety that our feline companion does not really need. I am referring to products as necessary as feline wine, which makes no sense whatsoever. Treats in the form of prizes, a little pastry that you put here that will greatly nourish your cat, isotonic drinks. Well, all that stuff that makes no sense whatsoever and can make your cat capricious because you spend all day thinking, oh, let's see what my cat might want. Our cat doesn't need so many types of food as long as it eats what is essential for its proper feeding, for its Proper nutrition, that's enough. Well, but if you're not doing any of this and you think that your cat may have some type of illness because of what I just told you, or you can't detect what is causing your cat to get bored of eating its food, I recommend that you go to the vet so that they can take a look and see if there is something wrong. And another question that I can see that you're going to ask me, I'll get ahead of you. Well, I know that it's not necessary to change its food, that my cat doesn't get bored, but I can alternate the type of food if I want. In principle, there's no problem. If you alternate the type of food, it's true that your cat may develop a slightly greater preference for some foods, for some flavors. For example, salmon, it prefers it to chicken. And you'll see that when you give it salmon food, salmon food, your cat eats it with it, much more joy. And when you give him chicken, he has a little more trouble. Again, it is us who, by giving him such a wide variety, are contributing to our cat becoming a little capricious. In any case, if you decide to alternate flavors, I do not recommend that you do it very, very frequently. Perhaps once every three or four months may be more than fine. And if you decide to do it, you have to make the change gradually and to learn how to do the whole procedure. I explain it much better in a video that I leave you below. There is only one situation in which I do not recommend at all, that you go around making changes, that you spend all day modifying your cat's diet. If your cat has some type of allergy related illness, if your cat is allergic, you will have already realized how difficult it is to find a food that is good for him that does not make his illness worse. If you have already found a type of food that does not cause diarrhea or itching, why are you going to keep changing and experimenting? When we change the type of food, the type of protein the food contains, it is very common for allergic cats to have an allergic episode that causes them to scratch themselves like crazy again or to start having uncontrollable diarrhea. Therefore, if your cat is stable and allergic, I do not recommend that you change the type of food they are given. And for everyone else, well, it is up to you. Here I will tell you the pros and cons, especially the cons, because you may not have taken them into account. Now the decision is entirely yours. Your choice. I hope this Video has made an impact on you at some point and has made you rethink some things. Leave me a comment and tell me what you thought of it. And above all, any contribution is super welcome for the entire community. I'm sure your experience will help us all. That will come later. No, in fact, I've already done it. I've already done it, in fact. And it looked great. I looked great with my answer. But you might be saying, well, what does this mean? It's very simple. Well, I don't really know. Or you might fall short and end up looking like a stick. Well, this looked very nice. My answer looked beautiful. But you might say, well.
