¿Hemos dejado de subir vídeos? | Situación actual del canal @MascotasyFamiliasFelices

This is a YouTube video titled "¿Hemos dejado de subir vídeos? | Situación actual del canal @MascotasyFamiliasFelices" uploaded in September 2024. It features Carlos, a veterinarian, and Jose discussing the current challenges faced by their channel "Mascotas y Familias Felices," including issues with YouTube's algorithm, reduced video reach, and the impact on channel sustainability. They also talk about their philosophy regarding sponsorships, memberships, and the financial realities of running a YouTube channel in Spain. The video is a candid update to their audience about the channel's status and their commitment to continue producing content as long as it remains viable.
Foreign Hi, I'm Carlos and I'm a veterinarian. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. This week on the channel, I'm not going to tell you about the things the cat does or the things other cats do. This week's video is a little different, but I think it's very important to do so because in it I'm going to tell you a little bit about how we feel and how we've been doing lately here on YouTube. All of this really comes about as a result of, well, a series of comments that we've been receiving, especially in the last few videos, and that we're realizing more or less follow a kind of pattern. There are some people who suddenly comment on a video, hey, have you uploaded a video again? Or how long has it been since you uploaded a video? And of course, when we read those comments at first, well, we understood them as an anecdote. But when we saw that they were a trend, that they were repeating themselves quite a bit every week, we started to wonder, why are these comments here if we haven't stopped uploading videos? And if you're watching this video right now, and I don't know, it's been a long time since you heard from us, since YouTube didn't let you know that we had new content. Well, you should know that since 2017 we haven't stopped uploading videos. We've been punctually at our appointment every week on Wednesdays at six in the afternoon, Spanish peninsular time, uploading a new video with content about cats. Right now we've uploaded more than 360 videos in these seven years of the channel. Goodbye to the little cat. You scratched me. And I think this is precisely where the problem comes in. Our videos aren't reaching you like they used to because YouTube isn't letting you know that there are new videos and it's normal, well, that you don't say in your daily chores in your busy week, oh, today is Wednesday. The guys were uploading a video about pets and happy families. Well, it's normal for people to remember us when the platform notifies them that there are new videos that may be of interest to them. This isn't something that's only happened to us, but we've seen that it's a phenomenon that's repeated on some Internet channels on YouTube and it's called Shadow B, the Shadow bank. Isn't that YouTube actually censors you, but rather that when it stops notifying you, your channel gradually loses relevance? Your content is seen by far fewer People, and that's why it reaches fewer and fewer people. The platform itself is silencing it. This is basically what we call the YouTube algorithm, which you've probably heard us talk about millions of times. And what happens is that this algorithm promotes some channels over others. Another thing that happens to us is that we are not a channel that generates controversy or that we are talking about something that will get people really hooked on watching it in. Instead, we simply bring you topics about cats that may have to do with their health, with their well being. Well, with things that may interest you, but that are not too controversial.
Right.
They are not saucy, which is what they are called.
Right.
So in the end, if YouTube does not show us, and if we are not generating that controversy so that you can get hooked on it, nor do we do clickbait, then in the end, the content fades away. It remains in limbo.
Right.
Well, uploaded. And there are some people who are loyal followers and who watch it, but there are others who, for whatever reason, have not clicked on our videos as much. And YouTube does not show them the new content. Well, you just have to go to the latest videos that we have uploaded. Well, maybe you haven't realized that they're uploaded precisely for this reason that I'm telling you. But if you review the videos from the last two or three months, you might see that some of them still stand out a little bit, have a few more views, but overall, the views have dropped a lot compared to what we had before. And of course, this causes us a lot of frustration. We continue to give 100% to each video. We continue to put the same enthusiasm into trying to bring you quality content. I do a lot of research so that what I tell you has a scientific basis so that you can apply it to your cat, so that it's not just anyone without training who offers you the information. And Jose also edits the videos in the same way, trying to offer you examples with different images. Well, also dedicating a lot of time to editing so that the video is as complete as possible. And what we see is that it reaches fewer and fewer people. And where before a video with 20,000 views would have been an absolute failure for us, not because it wouldn't have been interesting to those 20,000 people, but because we already had, well, I don't know, more than 300,000 subscribers, and only a small part of those 300,000 had watched it. Now, when a video reaches 20,000 for us, it's practically an achievement. And that's despite the fact that we now have more than half a million subscribers in this downturn of the channel, so there's practically no breaks. Well, Jose and I have considered many things because of course, at first you don't really realize the power of that algorithm. And you say, well, I must be doing it wrong. I must be offering content that people are no longer interested in. I don't know, they must have gotten bored of me. Well, I don't know, it's normal because, well, we've been on the channel for seven years now and, well, everyone loses their freshness, including me, right? So you might say, well, here comes this annoying guy talking to me about data again, right? Well, you do a lot of self criticism, don't you? Like thinking about it a lot to see where the problem really lies? Well, we said maybe we need to revisit topics with other approaches or with advances that have been made in them that people would have been interested in before. Well, I don't know, cat behavior. Well, correcting certain behaviors. Also talking about feeding things that everyone had previously found quite interesting and highly applicable and very useful for their cats. We've also tried videos about cat curiosities that are, well, I don't know, very easy to watch.
Right.
And even though we're dealing with topics that have always interested the audience and that many people used to watch these videos, right now it's like knocking on a door all day that never opens. And even, well, you know that we've been sharing our lives lately with Alcato, who arrived at our house about eight months ago. Well, well, at first it's true that the artichoke videos also caught people's attention a little more. It was like a breath of fresh air. We didn't want to make all the videos about the artichoke because, well, it wasn't the general theme of the channel. We had been making other videos for a long time that, well, had worked better or worse, and we wanted to continue making those types of videos that were perhaps a little more theoretical, although also including a little more practice with the artichoke. From now on, we. We didn't want everything to revolve around the artichoke. And it's true that at first, as I said, those videos were very, very well received. But lately, and especially the latest videos in which we've covered topics haven't worked so well. And of course, our channel has an increasing number of subscribers. That's true. However, we're seeing that more and more people are watching the videos which in theory have a certain interest. Well, I Don't know more than the rest because they've just discovered us and want to see everything we have that we've uploaded before. Well, not even those people are watching the new videos that we're uploading. And that undoubtedly has to do with the algorithm issue. In the end, what this tells us is that the channel isn't working logically. And the reason for this video is not to tell you we're going to leave the channel. I don't know, just like on other channels you might see it.
Right, like.
Like I'm leaving YouTube. Uh, okay. A bit like that.
Even clickbait, right?
Uh, no, it has nothing to do with it. We're not going to close the channel. I just want to let you know a little bit about how we're feeling. We've been watching this evolution for quite some time, and maybe we've let you know in other ways. Well, I don't know. On Instagram, there are times when we do a live or. Or we say, hey, uh, in some story, go see this week's video that's getting very little love. Give it some love.
Right.
Well, we say it on that social network, but we rarely say it here on YouTube.
Right.
Because our videos are more informative. Well, I wanted to make this video so that you can understand a little how we feel where a certain lack of motivation, a certain weariness or disgust with YouTube can come from.
Right.
Because you say, well, what's all this work for? I mean, there are many times when it's also necessary to see yourself rewarded in what you're waiting for. Right. And so I want to make this video so that through this platform, which is where most of you are, at least the message can reach more people who may not have Instagram or other social networks, and so that they know a little bit about how we feel. And parallel to everything I've been telling you in the video, a series of things have been happening that you, well, logically don't know about. But that. Well, I don't mind telling you here, uncovering myself a little and telling you, well, more or less how we've been working in recent months. In addition to us doing our thing and looking for topics that might interest you, one day we received an email from YouTube, well, from the platform, asking if we were interested in joining an advisory service.
Right.
From the platform. This advisory service, more or less, according to what they tell you, is aimed at seeing what the weaknesses of your channel are and trying to enhance them.
Right.
Well, look, these videos might not work. Well, try to Orient the videos towards something more like that and so on. And they assign you an advisor, in this case, a personalized advisor who meets with you periodically. Not a single fault from the advisor. A charming, wonderful person. In fact, the first day, I don't know if we had 40 minutes or half an hour to spend with her. And we spent almost an hour and a half. Uh, very good. I mean, at first we started talking without any problems, talking a little about how we felt and so on. In fact, from when we started that consultation, we hadn't introduced you to the cat yet. I mean, the cat was going to come live with us, but he hadn't made his appearance on the channel yet.
Right, right.
So, well, let's tell him a little bit. Well, now we're going to adopt the cat. Oh, I think it's great that you're showing him on the channel, that you're telling people how you're going to adapt him to your life, how you're going to become part of the cat's life. Well, good.
Right.
He started giving us some tips and advice. That was in the first meeting. A month later, we had the second one. And in that second meeting, he started offering us strategies for all channels. You have to make paid subscriptions to the channel. So, of course, when that second meeting ended, Jose and I looked at each other and said, this isn't for us, not for us as people, but for understanding the philosophy of pets and happy families. Because, of course, what YouTube wants is for us to activate a series of things on the channel for certain members where they become part of a more select community, so that this community pays me through these memberships, and so that as a content creator, you have a much more personal relationship and so on. But of course, you know how I am as an online veterinarian. I always tell you that this is not a veterinary office because I do not believe in online veterinary medicine. You cannot interpret what your cat has simply from a comment, without touching it, without observing it, without exploring it. And anyone who were to pay for a membership and have a direct chat with me could misinterpret this and understand that I had to diagnose their cat no matter what, because that is what they were paying me for. Or that those people, even when I tell them, hey, look, no, sorry, for the sake of your cat's health, you have to take it to the vet's office because you can't find out what's wrong with your cat online. How would those people take it? They also felt like they were paying for Something that I wasn't really offering them. So it was like a head on collision between what was expected from the YouTube platform that we were going to be able to offer and what we, understanding our philosophy, were willing to offer. And we all the time were trying to explain to the advisor that, well, that this didn't, I mean, completely clash with what our philosophy was, that we had spent a long time explaining to people that this was not an online clinic, that I was never going to diagnose their cats over the Internet. I mean, well, what you know is the channel today. And of course she wasn't a follower of ours, so she didn't really understand it at first. At first it was hard for us to get her to say, oh, okay, yeah, I understand a little bit now. But honestly, people usually accept it very well. For us it was betraying ourselves. It was taking our principles that we've been operating with for seven years and directly ripping them up and throwing them in the trash. And so we got to the third meeting with the advisor and from YouTube, from the platform, all the messages she sent us were like, hey, have you thought about activating this? Huh? Have you thought about monetizing this way? Have you thought about receiving money from your subscribers this way? So all the messages were very insistent that we start down that path. That path that we didn't believe in at the beginning. And that's why we had ruled it out from the beginning. Lets say we've had memberships for, I don't know, three or five years and it's never crossed our minds to activate them precisely for this reason. And it's not that we think it's bad to have a membership activated or to have closer contact with people who, well, pay you to be members of the channel. Okay, perfect. I mean, it can be good. But above all, what we don't want is for that to be interpreted in the wrong way. That you're a makeup blogger and you tell someone in a chat what makeup you use or what your makeup techniques are perfect. But obviously that person has much less responsibility than I do. That's undeniable. What happens is that in the eyes of the platform, there's no difference. The two channels are the same and that's why they recommend that you do what everyone should do or what everyone does. In fact, under a little pressure from the circumstances, we had activated the super button, which, I don't know if you know what it is, which is a little button that's down here in the videos where you can support the content creators by making a small donation. So after talking to the advisor, we decided, well, let's promote it in the videos so that people know that at least they have it available, but that it's completely voluntary. The content is still free and accessible to everyone, and only those who click the button and decide to donate contribute financially. Well, it seemed to me like a kind of middle ground, but it doesn't lead to false hopes or mistakes for people who are, well, giving you a small tip. So we well understood that it wasn't for us. We let them know. And it's true that I'm not going to tell you that the advice was worthless. Uh, we followed some recommendations, like on a daily basis. Well, uh, I don't know. Well, hey, well, this, this content, it could be interesting. Hey, have you seen that this video has worked better than the rest. Can you focus on the rest of the videos like this? Well, he made some recommendations from a technical point of view, which did help us. But it's true that the bulk of what the advice was about was basically the issue of memberships, which we were opposed. Well, the thing is that at the time we let them know that we weren't going to feel comfortable with that option, that we weren't going to activate the memberships, and that in every meeting it was, hey, have you activated the memberships? Have you thought about it? Have you given it a go? And we were always like, right, because I mean, we always had to explain the same thing. Well, we started having some problems, I don't really know why, scheduling new meetings. We had a meeting scheduled for a certain date and due to scheduling problems and other things, they canceled it and postponed it. The thing is that that meeting was postponed little by little, little by little. And in the end we didn't have any more for whatever reason. Well, the program was less interested in continuing to advise us, let's say. And all this coincided in time. I don't want to say that it has anything to do with it, but we saw it that way with a certain takeoff of the channel at the beginning of the advice. But as we refused to apply what they were telling us, we saw that the channel began to decline again. At least it happened to coincide in time. And now comes another issue that also came up with consulting. And many channels resort to it.
Right.
The issue of sponsorships are companies that are collaborators that offer you certain products or money to talk about those products. Why don't we do it first of all? And if you're watching this video, the first one on the channel, and you've never heard me say it. We don't do paid collaborations. Of the things that I talk about on the channel, well. Well, either I believe in them or I think they're good or I think they're bad. But because it's my own opinion, I mean, there's no one behind me offering me money to speak well of something or offering me money to speak badly about the competition. At the end of the day, I think that this channel is also based a bit on a trust that we have to have.
Right?
That the person who is talking to you about the health and care of your cats is telling you this without any hidden financial interest behind it. This is regardless of the fact that there are people who sometimes tell me in the comments that there are brands that pay me and that I am not saying it in the videos. Well, I. I can tell you that this is not the case. But anyway, at the end of the day, I know that the opinion I am giving you is a free and sincere opinion about the products I am talking about. This allows me to do several things. To begin with, when I recommend something for your cat, it is because it is in line with what I think it should meet. And to continue, it also gives me the freedom to change my mind whenever I feel like it. That is to say, you, if at any time I detect that a product that I have spoken positively about for your cat is no longer suitable or is no longer positive for your feline companion, I can tell you without any problem because no one has paid me and there is no video that I owe to that person. Okay, to talk about the product and just a quick aside because I know the archives are really bad. We've only collaborated with a brand once. It was an unpaid collaboration just to talk about activity feeders for cats. You might find the video somewhere in the channel's archives.
Right?
It was simply because in that video I was going to talk about different types of activity feeders. And well, since it also meant a significant financial outlay to be able to buy them all. To show you and tell you the pros and cons of each one, we asked that brand, which I won't tell you which one it is, for several activity feeders, of which they gave me two, and well, in the video, I did a sincere review, that is simply telling you what I thought of each one of them precisely because it wasn't a paid collaboration. They simply offered the product and that was it. That brand also gave us several more products to show in other videos. Videos just so that we could show them as we wanted and tell you that that collaboration was a real disaster and a real ordeal for both me and Jose, who had to re edit the videos 80,000 million times because there were only problems and so on. So. Well, in any case, that was an unpaid collaboration. They gave us two activity feeders, a series of products and that was it. And that was the end of our collaboration with that brand or any other. The thing is, as I was saying, well, we don't believe in that way of making content either. I don't think that in order to maintain the channel and continue offering you, well, advice, quality content, I have to resort to brands paying me. And it's true that there are some brands that have offered certain products that aren't even directly related to your cat's health, but we've even told them no. I mean, we haven't accepted collaborations with any type of brand, whether it has to do with cats, cat care or not, has to do with them. In fact, there's a funny thing that.
Why?
Well, you don't know. We bought a famous vacuum cleaner from a very well known brand that appears on, well, it appears on the channel, it appears in the videos and there's a video where we talk specifically about how we use it, right? And that vacuum cleaner, which is not cheap, we bought it out of our own pockets. And that brand had written to us to offer us a paid collaboration, also offering us a vacuum cleaner for ourselves and everything else before we made the video. I mean, we rejected that collaboration and decided, because I knew that that vacuum cleaner, well, well, it could be useful for cleaning my house. We decided to buy it ourselves, spend the money and well, some people might tell us, you're stupid, you're doing free advertising. But we decided to do it that way so that no one would tell me that there was any kind of hidden commercial interest in the video that I was making. In fact, yes, many of our friends told us, you're idiots. Well, so you can see a little bit that for us, our principles never have to be seen as being in conflict with the activity that we do with making videos. I mean, even though my advisor might recommend that I also do collaborations with brands to help sustain the channel, I don't understand how that's going to be positive for the channel in the long term. Ah, I understand that you might also find it a little confusing because I've been saying the opposite for seven years and we don't want to turn the channel into a flea market because I talk about cat health. Cat well being. And this isn't a teleshopping. And that's why, as you can imagine, for everything I'm telling you, this channel is supported solely by visits, or when you put on a video, an advertisement that YouTube puts on. YouTube also chooses the brands that appear in those advertisements that are shown. I mean, I have nothing to do with it. Uh, and simply because the advertisement appears for you, that generates a certain economic return, which is very little. Okay, and that's how the channel is supported. Where does this lead us? To what I was telling you earlier about the shadow bank and the algorithm. If YouTube, for whatever reason, stops showing the videos and they reach fewer people, that directly affects the channel's performance in terms of visits. The fewer people watch the videos, the less advertising revenue we're also going to receive. And this ends up affecting the channel's economic sustainability. Because in case you don't know, running a YouTube channel in Spain is very expensive. Anyone who does any economic activity in Spain has to be registered as a freelancer. That involves a financial outlay every month. In addition, you also have to declare the profits that the channel makes you. And that also involves taxes. To give you an idea, those in Spain know this perfectly well, but those outside may not. Well, it's 300 and a bit euros just for being self employed and also a percentage of the income that you receive in the form of taxes. In the end, every month you can easily lose €600, €700 just to maintain the channel. There comes a point where those expenses are fixed. If the channel's income keeps going down and down, then the activity becomes unprofitable, then it's impossible to keep it going. And since we're seeing that YouTube is leading us to that point, that's precisely why we're making this video simply so that you know the situation we're in. That's why this video is the only tool we have. There's nothing else we can do. I mean, I can't get this message across in any other way. What I want to tell you with this video is that if you enjoy the content on the channel, the only way you can support us is by visiting the channel and watching the videos, interacting, leaving a comment, giving a thumbs up, or even in a way that the other day, I don't know who told me could work. If you're watching this video and you're subscribed, and it's been a while since you last subscribed, if you don't get any notifications, go to the subscribe Button, subscribe to the channel and resubscribe and hit the bell. Because YouTube understands that new subscribers should be shown more videos. That way you're more likely to find out when there's new content anyway. Even though this isn't a video about cats where I tell you how to train your feline companion, I think it's also an important video because I simply wanted to make you a part of this situation, of what we're experiencing, something that's beyond our control and that I can't do anything to change. The only ones who can do something to change it are, on the one hand, the algorithm, which isn't going to change that, and on the other hand, you who follow the videos well, supporting us and giving us a little bit of love and affection. What we don't want is for that day to come when we say, well, we'll stop uploading videos, we'll leave the channel, because at that point there won't be anything else to do. Ah, for one thing, that's why we want to use the few tools we have at our disposal to raise awareness and try to fight this situation while we still can. And this applies to any content creator on any social network. Mind you, we're talking about the YouTube algorithm, but they all work a bit the same. So if you want to support any content creator, even if they're not happy pets and families, it could be any other channel. The only thing you can do is keep watching their videos because that's the only way you can ensure that the channel is sustainable. Well, at this point, the only thing I have to tell you is that if you support us, if you follow us and are always there. Thank you very much. Really, we feel loved by those people who accompany us and who we know. But I also want to tell you what's going to happen from here on out. For now, the channel is going ahead. We're going to keep making videos, obviously. Until when? We can't know until the channel is sustainable. Well, for whatever reason, YouTube continues with this algorithm thing and videos are watched less and less and there comes a point where it can't continue. Well, that's it, right? We'll keep going. Obviously. We can also do a little soul searching and understand that we may have lost the public's interest, or that you're no longer interested in the things I'm telling you, or that you might say this is a bore who repeats himself a lot, or that I don't want to know anything more about the cat. I mean, all of that can also Happen. Well, that's it. Well, we'll go as far as we can. And as long as you want to continue supporting us and making this viable and sustainable. Of course. And I don't want to. Well, I want to leave this funereal tone completely. And I just want to thank you for joining us and tell you that we love making videos about cats and being able to offer you new things, well, care, and also being able to help you a little when you're a little lost and don't really know how to navigate living with a cat.
Right.
In fact, at the beginning, when we started with the channel, well, since the channel wasn't monetized, we didn't have to pay anything and we made the videos completely for the love of art. What happens is that there comes a point where that changes, and once you start paying taxes, you have to keep paying them. And that, in other words, there comes a point where you have to have economic sustainability. In any case, we also understand that, well, life is cycles and that if the point comes where the cycle of happy pets and families ends, which it hasn't yet, we're at that point. I have to remind you. Well, well, it will come in a did period. At least we will have enjoyed the journey and, well, if you have enjoyed it with us, well, that's something we all take away. But anyway, how can we end a video of happy pets and families on a happy note? Well, with El Cachofo, of course, he also wants to thank you for all the support you give him. That you know him, that you know him, you love me so much. You always send him messages of great affection. So I couldn't miss the farewell of this video. If you don't do it for me, do it for Kocifo. And since I've been annoying you, I've told you throughout the video how you can support content creators. I won't waste time with that today. If you want to leave me a comment, you're always welcome. Okay, pay attention. But what is like a religion on this channel is that before we go, I have to introduce you to these two little ones called Tomi, the black kitten and the male kitten is called Tanji. They greet us with their human companion, Yasmin Medina from beautiful Galicia, Lugo, specifically Angel and Varro greet us and introduce us to their feline companions, Sugus and Filoa. How sweet. And these two little ones are called Carmi and Kango. And they greet us with their human companion, Sophia from Argentina. Thank you very much for following the happy pets and Families Channel. And here with Alcatofo, we say goodbye until next week. This cat watching the rain. Kitty, kitty. You can see it. Well, look, I'm going to say first that what this lady just told us is not for us. Yes. When you talk about a controversy, Jose, that's how social networks work. Well, okay. And at the time. Okay, but at the time. Okay, no, wait. Um, how do I say it? So that. And that's how the channel is supported. Wait, I was going to say something. Ah, okay. Okay. Yes to the rest. Once you have to start paying taxes and all that, you still have to pay that. Um, so what did I want to say? Yes. Yeah. Because suddenly I said I'm going nowhere. Ah. Everything has a cycle. That's it. That's it. And if you don't do it for me, do it for the cat. Okay. Hey, the cat. The cat. Say hi. Say. Say hi. Look, say goodbye. Uh, that's it. That's all I wanted to tell you about. It doesn't matter. If it's not pets and happy families, it could be any other channel, your favorite cooking channel, whatever. Okay. The wonderful YouTube algorithm.
