Welcome to this new video from Animal Expert. Today we'll be talking about the differences between the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky, two large, beautiful dogs, both belonging to FCI Group 5, the Nordic Sled dogs. At first glance, one might think that they are the same breed of dog. However, at Animal Expert, we will help you by analyzing in detail the traits that differentiate them. Don't miss it. The Alaskan Malamute originated in western Alaska. It was bred by the Inuit tribe in the late 19th century and was considered an essential and valuable member of the tribe because it made it possible for the Inuit to survive in the most remote and cold areas. Its obedient, extremely hardy nature and its qualities as a sled dog help the people move around and transport food from certain areas to the camp. It was also excellent for hunting big game. Later, during the Alaskan gold rush, many people first discovered the amazing Alaskan Malamute in its many qualities. It was then that it began to spread throughout the United States. The exact date of the Siberian huskies development is unknown, but it is certain that it dates back centuries. The Chukaks, one of many other tribes that coexisted in the cold and unpopulated areas of Siberia, existed as early as prehistoric times. Each of them prided themselves on breeding and developing a breed of dog. In this case, the Chuchi tribe was the one that gave rise to the Siberian Husky. Over the centuries, the husky was used for hunting and transporting to camp and also for trade between villages. However, contrary to what we might think, the husky was not used to transport heavy loads. They sought in it the ability to withstand long walks, although with a mentality typical of the time. The Chukchi cared for and respected the Siberian husky, lived with it and fed it carefully. The great trust they had in this noble animal also led them to sleep next to especially children and women who enjoyed the heat emitted by its body and helped them withstand the freezing temperatures. We can observe certain differences in weight and size between the two specimens. The husky is noticeably thinner and lighter, weighing between 15 and 30 kilograms, while the Alaskan weighs between 34 and 38. In addition, the husky is also smaller in height, measuring between 50 and 60 centimeters at the withers, unlike the 58 or 63 that an Alaskan can reach, which is more robust and taller. In addition to weight in size, there are other physical characteristics that can help us differentiate these two breeds. Differences in cranial structure. Both specimens may have a white face with a dark vertical line or a mask. However, at a structural level, we can observe the thinner face of the husky and the thicker one in the Alaskan Malamute, on the other hand, the ears also give each of these specimens away. Both ears are medium sized, but they are noticeably larger in the case of the husky and smaller in proportion to the enormous head of the Alaskan Malamute. Difference in the Eyes A highly appreciated the most complicated peculiarity of the husky is its ability to develop heterochromia as a genetic condition, that is to have one eye of each color. They can also have brown or blue eyes, while the Alaskan malemutan will only have brown eyes. Differences in the Coat the coat of both dogs is somewhat different, although both have a double layer of hair and can show different colors. The outer coat of the husky's hair is usually soft and medium long. The Alaskan malamutes is longer, can reach 5 cm in length, and has a somewhat rougher outer coat. Finally, we will discuss the differences in character. The Alaskan Malamute is a gentle dog that enjoys the company of many different people, so it can be ideal for a large and active family or for people who usually include their dog in their daily activities. It is a noble, loyal, good and patient dog, easy to train and educate using positive reinforcement. It is usually quite calm at home but active and playful outside the home, especially in cool mountain areas. However, it is not recommended to keep it in very hot climates. The Siberian Husky stands out for being a very outgoing and friendly dog. It is usually gentle and affectionate with those who suit it. Sometimes it maintains an alert behavior at home without showing a tendency towards territoriality or aggression. It is a very intelligent and docile dog with a predisposition to be a loyal and hardworking member of what it considers its family. It loves to be mentally stimulated, so intelligence, games and active exercise will be very beneficial. Agility, for example, is a very good option for the Siberian husky. It is a perfect dog for any type of family and unlike the Alaskan, it adapts better to temperate climates. And that's it for today's video. What did you think? Which of the two do you like the most?
