FOREIGN welcome to this new video from Animal Expert. Today we'll be talking about feeding the green iguana, also known as the common iguana or by its scientific name, iguana iguana. This arboreal lizard is actually green when it's young. It reaches adulthood at around 2 years of age, gradually losing its characteristic green pigmentation and becoming grayish or brown. We'll start by emphasizing that while young iguana should eat every day, adult iguanas only need to eat every two or three days. However, if you wish, you can also feed it daily. You don't have to pay attention to the quantities, which will depend on its weight and age. At first, you could try offering it food until it refuses it. This way you'll be able to roughly identify the average amount it needs. Over time, you'll get to know it and know the exact doses you should offer it. Iguanas should only eat plant food, never animal food. These are folivorous animals, meaning they feed mainly on leaves, although they can occasionally eat young shoots or some fruits. It is advisable to always have a small portion of commercial iguana food in their terrarium and to add vegetables and fruits regularly. Below we will explain which vegetables are most suitable for iguanas. Celery, cabbage, dandelion, green onions, turnip greens, radish leaves, zucchini, cilantro, alfalfa, chard, soybean, leave rose petals, broccoli, green beans, tomato, apple and iv. On the other hand, we must not forget the foods that are prohibited or unsuitable for iguanas. Insects or insectivorous pasta, eggs, milk and milk derivatives, meat or fish.
