Legañas en gatos 😿 | ¿Cuáles puedes limpiar 👌 y cuáles no 🚫? ¿Son dañinas?

This is a YouTube video titled "Legañas en gatos 😿 | ¿Cuáles puedes limpiar 👌 y cuáles no 🚫? ¿Son dañinas?" created on April 21, 2021. The content features Carlos, a clinical veterinarian specializing in small animals, who explains the causes, types, and treatments of eye discharge in cats. The video provides detailed advice on identifying harmless versus serious eye discharge, how to clean it safely, and when to seek veterinary care. It also includes practical tips on administering eye drops to cats and addresses common concerns from cat owners. The tone is educational and aimed at cat owners seeking to better understand feline eye health.
The Royal Spanish Academy accepts leganias or leganhas. And if you call them something else, well, please don't let this turn into Feed care croquettes, because in the end I spend more time calling them than saying what I have to say in the video. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian in small animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families channel. The other day on the secondary channel we were talking about this topic, but since those videos are much shorter, I still have quite a few things to tell you about Cat Eye Discharge Room. And also that video was quite interesting. And since I'm always identifying what you like to hear on the Happy Pets and Families channel, well, we're going to make a longer video. Many of our feline companions suffer from or regularly have eye discharge. And many of you may be wondering, is it something serious? Do I have to remove it? I don't have to remove it. Well, as always in my videos there's a. It depends. And that's because not all eye boogers are the same. And that's what we're going to talk about today. Let's start with the eye boogers that are less important. Well, or that could be less important. These are the blackish eye boogers that many kittens usually get because when they spend a long time sleeping and wake up, they have them stuck to both sides of their noses. They're usually not very big. And as I said, they usually get them after they've slept for a long time. Well, like it happens to us too, they often remove this type of eye boogers themselves because they start grooming themselves and suddenly, boom, they're gone. But some of your cats either groom themselves a little less or they don't remove them at all, or they're very big or they're very stuck on. And that's why in those cases, you can help them remove them. And how do you identify this type of eye boogers? Aside from the fact that they are very small, blackish, and appear here, the eyes are generally normal. They are not red, they are not half closed. In other words, you can see that your cat is normal. The only thing is that it has a black blob here. A little blob, right? A little blob, yes, tiny. But some cats, due to their breed, tend to accumulate them more than others. And I am specifically referring to those cats that have a flat face, such as Persians or exotics. These cats, due to the shape of their face, release fewer tears from their eyes through a duct that goes through the nose and therefore they come out as if they were, so to speak, crying, because they cannot evacuate all the tears that the eye produces. That is why in these cats, it is more likely that you will see a darker groove here, which is what produces the tear secretion and that in many cases ends up becoming eye discharge. In this type of cat, unlike the others where I told you that you can remove them yourself if you want, or the cat often grooms itself and removes them. If you have to be a little closer, you have to ensure that the cat's eyes are thoroughly cleaned. Therefore, if you want to remove them from your feline companion, what you have to do is use gauze. Don't use toilet paper or anything like that, but gauze or perhaps a damp cotton ball. I prefer gauze because it leaves less fiber. You are going to moisten the gauze with slightly warm water or also with physiological saline or artificial tears, and that is what you are going to use to remove the eye discharge. In the case of cats that have a slightly flatter face, there are some products that are specifically used because they also remove a little of the copper coloration that the eye discharge produces. So it is an aesthetic issue. It is not bad for their health. Well, when a lot of it accumulates, yes, because in the end it can also cause dermatitis. So that's why we remove it. And now we're going to move on to something that's different from the previous one, which is that they secrete a lot of tears. You might say, well, you were telling me that eye discharge was a tear secretion that would stick together and so on. In this case, I'm referring to those cats that have hair around their eye that you see permanently wet. And that's because the eye is producing a lot, a lot, a lot of tears due to some situation. And allergy, for example, allergy alert. This is also usually accompanied by changes in the eye. You can see it more red, the light bothers it, the eyelids close a little. The eyelid, the third eyelid, this one that comes out here, is a little enlarged, as if it's in the middle of the eye. All of this is an indication that the eye is not in good health and that therefore we have to start worrying. And what can cause this type of excessive tear secretion, for example, conjunctivitis, or the cat having a corneal ulcer on the surface of the eye, because, I don't know, two cats have started fighting and one has scratched the other. Are cats that go outside and get pricked by a TWIG sometimes there's also a little inflammation, a little conjunctivitis, because they are in an environment with a lot of dust, even in many cases due to viruses and bacteria that can cause infections in that area. This is the very typical case of the so called in quotes feline cold, which is caused either by the herpes virus or by the Calici virus, which we already talked about in another video here on the channel, or well, by bacteria. In these cases, especially with the Calici virus, they can be accompanied by other problems in other areas, such as in the mouth. It can also be, as Jose says, due to allergies or even parasites. And you might ask me what parasites? In my cat's eyes? Yes, there can also be parasites in cat's eyes. In fact, they are quite striking because there are tiny worms called telassea, which are transmitted by flies and can be seen on the surface of the eye. Yes, you can see the worm moving. They are tiny and you can see it there. And it also produces eye discharge. Of course, it produces a lot of tear secretion that can sometimes lead to eye discharge. In this case, the eye discharge may be a different color than the previous ones. They are not the tiny blackish eye discharge that I told you is less important. In these cases. You can see that they are green, whitish or even yellowish. That often indicates that there is pus and therefore there is an infection that we have to end up treating. In other words, to summarize, if they are black and tiny, good and dry, normally the small, dry, black ones, but if they are green, white and disgusting, mucus, slimy, those are already alerts. Yes, Jose, who is very clever, has advanced us a little in the video. Some people prefer to start by cleaning them and see what happens. But I recommend that you do not wait, that you run to the vet. Eye problems, as I always say, and I repeat in this video, especially since we are talking about this, evolve very quickly. It may be that from one day to the next the injury or the problem or the infection is so serious that in the end we have a lot of trouble saving the cat's eye. There are people who come to me and say, no, I'll give him a chamomile infusion or a tea bag or I don't know what. Why take him quickly? Because in the end you're really racing against the clock. But then what can you do at home with your feline companion if you've just seen this? If more than one cat lives with other kittens, large cats or whatever, separate the one with the eye problems from the rest, because many times these are infectious problems and can be transmitted to the other cats living in the house. Another thing, if you have an Elizabethan collar at home, you can put it on, because many times eye problems itch a lot and it's the cats themselves who scratch with their front paws, destroying everything they get their hands on. In other words, if you're not going to take the cat to the vet immediately, I don't know, because it catches you at a time when the vet is not open and you can wait a couple of hours. Hours are three, because in those cases I recommend the cone. And one thing you should not do, you should not give him medication that has been given to another cat that has had eye problems, or whether it is your feline companion or the cat of the neighbor on the fifth floor. Don't do it. As we are seeing, the problem can come from many different causes. And not only that, there are treatments that are given for some causes that are counterproductive if the cat is suffering from something else. For example, if the cat has an ulcer and you give him a treatment that has been given to a cat with allergies, the ulcer will get worse or it could even perforate and he could lose the eye. I. I'm not alarming you here for anything. These things really do happen. Well, that's it for now about the subject of eye discharge, But I'm going to give you a bonus track on how to give eye drops to a cat. Lots of encouragement, lots of patience, because sometimes it's not easy. It's best for two people to try to do it one of them with a single person. Hold the cat's body and let you get a little bit of control over its head. It's much easier if you lift the cat's chin a little and have the cat looking up. And once you have the eye drops, what do you do? Well, what you have to do is lift the upper eyelid. Don't lower the lower one, lift the upper eyelid and put a drop if the cat has moved. If you have any doubts about whether the drop has gone in or not, don't worry, put another drop because you're not going to overdo it with the medication. Okay, whatever. Also, when the eyelid closes, it's going to cause all of the medication to come out, and that's it. And if you don't have two people, well, you can do it yourself. For example, you can put the cat's body between your legs to hold it in place a little and use your hands to lift its head. Well, that's it for a video I've put here about diseases, because I started talking about eye boogers and suddenly, hey, here come the diseases. Anyway, what I have to do so that you can watch my videos. But I think this video is very interesting because it's something quite common that can happen to cats. All this information can help you a lot if you live with a cat, if not now, in the future, please watch, watch these videos and if your cat has ever had to fight with you, you've beaten it or it has them regularly. Tell me about your experience in the comments. Tell me if you've ever had to fight with it, to give it eye drops. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone. Remember to subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. And remember that we also have another channel, the secondary channel called Questions and Answers from a veterinarian here on YouTube. Go ahead and subscribe. And in both you have to hit the bell, because if you don't, you won't find out anything. Well, nothing. When let's upload a video. Of course. And today we meet here we have a fan who is more concerned about whether dinner is coming than our videos, who lives with Chileo. And now a round of kittens who ask us for encouragement because they are going to be sterilized. You'll see that it's not that big of a deal. Babita, who lives with Orianna and who tells me that she's going to be sterilized tomorrow. And Milo, who has traveled all over America, from Canada to Chile, who is also telling us that he is going to be sterilized and lives with a shirt on. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel. And I'll see you in the next video. What do I do? Do I dance here in the middle or what? No, no, we're already talking about the cases of disgusting eye boogers and no. And Jose, don't do these things because you'll do it later and then you'll edit and you'll leave your thing and you won't leave mine and I don't want to. Well, we'll see, because people don't care. Yes, yes, yes. In fact, now I'm going to say it. Don't do it, because you might not have been super weird. Okay, well, if you want me to talk about a specific topic on the channel, let me know in the comments. I know, I know. Feline hyperesthesia. I know, but those aren't outtakes. No, I'm talking to you, and you're doing something else. There are many times when you tell me, uh, Wolfenstein Himston syndrome, which my cat has. My cat and 10 more cats in the world. Yeah, Wolf, well, it's not because I don't want to help you, but we want to help everyone who watches the channel. No, I don't talk about my life if I'm not paid. And that's it for the comedy club and Anna Rosas show here at Androsos.
