Los COLLARES ANTIMAULLIDO PARA GATOS son un PELIGRO ❌ deberían estar PROHIBIDOS

This is a YouTube video titled "Los COLLARES ANTIMAULLIDO PARA GATOS son un PELIGRO ❌ deberían estar PROHIBIDOS" created in April 2025. The content features a veterinarian named Carlos discussing the use and risks of anti-meowing vibrating collars for cats. He explains why these collars can be harmful, including causing stress, behavioral issues, and physical health problems in cats. The video also covers legal aspects in Spain regarding the use and sale of such collars, highlighting loopholes and the limited protection for certain working animals. The discussion emphasizes the importance of addressing the root causes of a cat's meowing rather than using aversive devices. The video ends with a call for viewers to share their opinions and a brief showcase of cats from various countries. The content is primarily a monologue with some brief interaction but does not include Javier Pariente as a speaker.
If your cat is meowing like crazy, you'll be faced with a lot of solutions to tackle this problem. And one of them I'm sure you've thought of is vibrating collars. Hi, I'm Carlos and I'm a veterinarian. And this guy licking himself right now is Alcatofo. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. You've probably heard of those collars that have become so fashionable for cats and dogs which vibrate in certain contexts. However, these little gadgets are not new and have a long history behind them. At first, there were only those typical collars that you've probably seen that produce a small shock when the animal, the dog or cat, behaves in a way that we don't like or that we find annoying. They are often activated by the dog or cat barking or meowing. They respond to this sound stimulus by releasing that shock. But of course, the fact that our cat or dog receives an electric shock from time to time could seem like abuse to many people. So manufacturers solved this small problem with collars that vibrate instead. For this reason, in recent years, this type of collar has been gaining followers among people who do not agree with such aggressive stimulation and who nevertheless see vibration as a way to correct their animal companions inappropriate behavior without harming them. These types of devices are increasingly being used in many homes in many areas of the planet. Apparently, it is a flawless plan. Our cat receives a non painful stimulus when it exhibits a behavior such as meowing. Little by little, it will associate that meow with the reaction, which is that the collar vibrates and it will stop doing it. So that's it. It is the perfect method to correct our cat's behavior. Well, let me tell you that things are not so pretty to begin with because our cats do not always meow because they want to. There are times when our feline companions meow because something hurts them, something bothers them, or they simply want to greet you or ask for dinner. If our cat is going to refer to us and say, hello human, I'm here. Every time it's going to receive a vibration and something it doesn't like, it can be quite traumatic. But also, when we try to modify or correct our cat's behavior, it's very important for it to know how to associate what behavior we want to correct, what is motivating our correction and what it shouldn't keep doing. And the problem is that meowing can have many different origins, as I've already explained. So it's very complicated for your cat to know how to directly associate, hey, I'm meowing. And that's why the collar vibrates, because I don't want it to do that. So in the end, I don't think it would even be a very effective tool for correcting this type of behavior. If these types of methods end up working, it may be because our cat changes its personality, its cat like nature and how it relates to us with this type of device. What is most common is that we make our feline companion not want to, for example, approach us or be a sociable cat because in return, they will receive a negative result or stimulus directly. It is because they do not want to have contact with you. They are directly associating you with the vibration. And this is because we are trying to correct a very common behavior in cats. In fact, I have explained to you many times that our feline companions generally meow towards humans, and only in very, very rare circumstances do they meow towards other cats. Meowing is generally a social behavior towards the people they live with. But come on, this is not the only thing. As I was saying, your cat may associate the vibration with close contact with people. In some circumstances, when our cats experience a negative stimulus in their environment, whether it's a collar, a loud noise, or something that stresses them out, they can end up developing a series of behaviors that are not at all desirable for living together. I'm referring to redirected aggression. When your cat is unable to manage the frustration caused by something negative, that noise or vibration ends up taking it out on the first person they come across, which could be you or any member of your family. So it's possible that by trying to fix a behavior that is, well, something minor, such as your cat simply being a bit chatty, you're making them distrustful and a bit surly with other humans. On top of all this, we must also add the stress it causes them, which I've already mentioned. Stress is a very important health factor for cats. In the end, it ends up leading to not only behavioral problems, but also physical problems. Many cats end up having flut. Well, feline lower urinary tract syndrome is they can't pee. And it's directly derived from that stress. But that's not all. That's what I always say. Cats can have increased hair loss. It can also negatively affect kittens that already have a problem or a previous health condition, such as leukemia or feline immunodeficiency. In short, it's something catastrophic. And logically, there's one thing we can't ignore. We're Talking about a collar. And I always tell you that I'm against putting collars on your cats. They can be dangerous because if they get caught, they can even strangle themselves. Our cats are very fearless, and if they jump and the collar gets stuck behind them, we could have a problem. I know that in some countries collars are mandatory to identify our cats. Well, we can't be against those. Another thing is that I think they're the best option, but it's for identifying them, not for us to shock them or give them vibrations. With all this, I don't need to tell you that I'm against these collars. They seem absolutely outrageous to me. But it seems that not everyone is so sure about it. In fact, in some countries, like the United Kingdom, there have even been debates between people who were in favor and people who were against associations that were in favor because they said they could be an effective tool for correcting certain behaviors, especially in dogs and associations that thought the same as me. It's absolutely crazy. In fact, in recent years, the laws have been changing. What does the law say here in Spain? Well, if we stick to the Animal Welfare Law, Law 7 of 2023, which I have written down here, states that the use of any handling tool that could cause injury to the animal is prohibited. In particular, electric shock punishment or choke collars. Using them would be considered a minor to serious offense and could result in fines of up to €50,000. Anyone reading this could say, hey, collars are banned in Spain. That's the end of the problem. But not everything is as nice as it seems. Why do I say this? Well, because the Animal Welfare law was a much more ambitious regulation when it was proposed. In other words, it was expected to cover all animals, regardless of their purpose. However, as it was processed and passed through all the committees, and I don't know how much and I don't know what it was also cut back quite a bit. So these collars. Well, and everything the law says, although it is true that cats and dogs that live with us at home could not be used, they can still be used on animals, for example, such as working dogs, guard and custody dogs, shepherd dogs, police animals, or they could even be used on animals that are assistants, guide dogs for the blind. And the law does not protect relay dogs, those used for hunting either. Wow. And now we find ourselves with the ultimate paradox. The law only prohibits these things that are clearly animal abuse in animals that are usually very well cared for. The animals that live with us, however, in those animals that live in difficult situations, Hunting dogs, relay dogs or dogs that are used for guard and custody, or shepherd dogs that live outdoors, which we often know do not have the best health conditions because they are not given much attention, because they do not receive many visits from the vet. Precisely those animals that need it the most are left unprotected by this regulation. For this reason, these collars can still be legally purchased in Spain. In other words, their sale is not prohibited. What is prohibited is their use and only on certain animals. I think it's absolutely outrageous, what can I say? Because these collars don't provide any advantages, they're not going to solve problems that can't be corrected in other ways, in much more beneficial ways, because we get to the root of the problem. Instead of attacking the sign which is barking or meowing, we have to try to see why our animal companions are doing it and provide an answer. Furthermore, precisely because they can still be used on certain animals, there's a loophole in the law I would bet on banning the sale of this type of device that is harmful to the well being of our animals because it causes them a lot of suffering. Because in this way, if a person, for example, lives in a house with a garden and wants to keep their pet dog wearing one of these collars, they will be able to continue doing so because the police will not enter their house to find out if they are wearing a collar or not. It would be enough to remove the collar when you take them out to the park. And that's it. Absolutely nothing happened here. And of course this is something to think about. Don't tell me it isn't. Sometimes these laws, even though they may have very good ideas at the beginning, end up being, well, a bit distorted because they don't really think about the animals. But then the law has to end up satisfying a lot of associations, a lot of votes, whether it's hunters or people who have guard dogs. Well, anyway, everyone has to be pleased. In the end, animals are the least important thing. And I don't know what the situation is like in your countries, but I'll take this opportunity to tell you to leave me a comment and tell me if these collars can be used in your countries or not. But anyway, in the end, regardless of whether or not it is legal to use them, all this debate that is going on and people who are completely against it, including myself, well, in the end what you have to say is, hey, people who know a little about animal behavior have realized that it is harmful to them. It doesn't matter that in My country, they are not specifically prohibited. So I don't want you to put them on your cat precisely for that reason. Reason. But also, if someone tells you about it, tell them, hey, look, in many places it is considered abuse. Hey, think about it. Because in the end, the behavior that your cat or dog may exhibit, such as meowing or barking, can be corrected in many other ways. The most important thing is not whether the dog or cat meows or barks, because as I said, that can be a social behavior that is not bad in itself, but rather identifying whether that type of behavior is associated with something that is negatively affecting it. For example, if your cat is extremely hyper attached and cannot be left alone at any time and manifests this by meowing. Until we solve the root problem, the basic problem, the cat will continue to meow constantly. Later on, it may be a very talkative cat, but we will have already solved the problem that was causing it. All the suffering and all this frustration. And as you can see, for that we won't have needed a collar that vibrates every time the cat. But we also can't forget that when a dog or cat comes to live with us, enters our home, also becomes part of our family, and we are ultimately responsible for ensuring that we give them all the means of life necessary for them to live their lives to the fullest. That doesn't just involve preventing diseases, which is in my opinion, the more classic concept, but also preventing them from finding themselves in an environment that could cause them problems. From an emotional point of view, this may seem like a hippie speech or something like that, but it really is very important. On the other hand, we can't put our own well being first because we can say, hey, look, I'm very happy with my dog because he doesn't make a sound. Right. Or we're happy with my cat because he doesn't scratch anything. No, right there we're saying, well, my cat is fine at home. He's like a stuffed animal, like an accessory that looks great. He goes well with my house, but we're not really thinking about whether they're well emotionally. If your cat can't mark can't scratch in areas of your house, your cat is probably frustrated. If your cat can't greet you with a meow because he has a vibrating collar, your cat is probably frustrated. Exactly the same thing happens with dogs. If we don't take them to the park to socialize, they're not going to have a full life, which is what it's all about. Well, that's It. I've already said it and I hope you agree with me, but. Well, it could also be that they're not. You are. So if you want, you can leave me a comment and explain your position and why you are in favor of this type of device. What I am clear about is that I will never put any type of collar on the Kachofo. In any case, if you liked the video, give it a like and remember to subscribe if you haven't already. Look how comfortable he is. We are coming from Guayaquil, Ecuador. Rosana and her human companions Andy and Roberto want to greet us from there. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel and I'll see you in the next video. What do you say to the cat? Yes, it does have a home. Surely if your cat is howling like crazy. If your cat is howling like crazy. If you've probably. I don't know how to say it. Look at that sausage. Tell these people. What have you been chasing right now? A fly. Right? And now you're kissing me after having been chasing the fly. Those that mainly make us angry or not. I don't want to say that. However, it has not a stimulus that it finds a little bit, uh, no, uh, small stimulus that it doesn't like. Not that it doesn't like, not because. But instead of. But instead of receiving a hard time and more things. Well, that's it. So don't ask me to flow if you don't like the way I flow. Okay, that's it. That's it. I'm not saying it. That's it. And you make me very nervous. You're already unclear of the caller.
Yes, yes. And. And that's it. And let's be clear because you had to take a position. Well, I'm already positioned. The script is coming out as I had it. Well, but it's not clear to me that you're against it. So you have to make it clearer to me. Against. Let's talk about the against. It's not that there have been associations. Well, here we are stuck in the mud. This kitten. Do we have a carpet or do we have a cat collar that are used to end certain things. To end certain things.
