This is a YouTube video titled "¿Los GATOS pueden SOÑAR? 😺💤 ¡Descúbrelo!" created on September 25, 2020, presenting an informative monologue by an animal expert about cat sleep behavior, including phases of sleep, signs of dreaming, and the possibility of nightmares in cats. The content is educational and focused on feline sleep science.
Did you know that cats sleep between 14 and 16 hours a day? They spend so many hours sleeping that you probably wonder if they are immersed in dreams or nightmares, especially when they move or make sounds while resting. In this video by an animal expert, we reveal what we currently know about sleep in cats. Don't miss it. When do cats dream? When a cat lies down to rest, it begins by falling into a light sleep that usually lasts half an hour. After this period comes deep sleep that lasts about six or seven minutes. After this period, there is a return to a lighter sleep phase that lasts about 30 minutes. Therefore, if cats dream, they will do so in the deep sleep phase, also called REM phase or rapid eye movement. In this state, the cat's body relaxes completely. We can tell because many times it is lying on its side, stretched out completely. It is at this moment that some signs appear that may make us think that it is immersed in a dream. How do we know they're dreaming? If you notice your cat moving its ears, paws or tail while it sleeps, it's possible that it's dreaming. You can also see that the muscles in its mouth are activated with sucking movements and even vocalizations, purring or other sounds. Another very characteristic movement is that of the eyes, which can be seen moving under closed or half open eyelids while the rest of the body remains relaxed. Therefore, if you see that your kitty makes any of these movements while sleeping, you shouldn't worry as they are completely normal and physiological. All cats will do them to a greater or lesser extent. If you want to ensure that your cat gets a good night's sleep, it's important to provide it with a comfortable, warm and sheltered place to sleep. This is especially important when there are several cats or animals of different species living in the home that may bother each other. What do cats dream about? Both the possibility of felines dreaming and having nightmares seems possible according to science scientific studies on how the brain works. Now, what they dream about specifically is more subject to our interpretation. Unfortunately, it is impossible to answer this question because there is currently no way to know what cats dream about. If they do dream, it probably won't be the same as the dreams that humans experience. Do cats have nightmares? As we mentioned in the previous question, it is impossible to know if cats have nightmares or any other type of dream. Sometimes we may see that our cat wakes up scared, and we tend to believe that it may be due to a nightmare. However, this could be due to something as simple as having perceived a sudden sound that we have not heard. Remember that cats have a much higher hearing capacity than humans. If you want to continue learning interesting facts about cats, don't miss the video that we have left for you above, in which we explain why your cat sleeps on top of you. Tell us what movements and sounds your cat makes while sleeping. Until next time, experts.
