Known as the Alaskan Malamute, this beautiful dog originated in the Arctic, specifically in Alaska, and is a very popular breed among trained dogs. Although it may seem like a very imposing dog, we can discover a very affectionate and sociable companion. Physically, the Alaskan Malamute is large, powerful and very muscular. It has a very dense and long coat with a double layer that allows it to withstand the cold temperatures of its habitat. As a characteristic feature, we can see how its tail curls over its back. Although the best known is the gray one. The truth is that there are Alaskan Malamutes that are black and red, always mixed with white. In addition, they can also have a completely white facial coat or different types of masks. All of them are accepted. As is usually the case with most breeds, the Alaskan Malamute Camacho is usually larger than the female. Even so, both sexes are considered very large dogs, capable of pulling loads of up to 40 kilogram. Although its physical appearance may lead one to think otherwise, the Alaskan Malamute is a very docile, sociable, affectionate and playful dog. Of course, its owner must be an experienced person who has read up on the particularities of this breed and knows how to train it. The Alaskan Malamute is a very intelligent, independent and disciplined dog, loyal to its owner and protective of children. It needs to follow a leader who knows how to understand it and interpret its looks, gestures and movements. The bond that can be created between the Alaskan Malamute and its owner is so strong that many claim that a single glance with their dog is enough to know what they need at that moment. On the other hand, it is important to properly socialize the Alaskan Malamute so that it is respectful and sociable with other animals and strangers. Likewise, it is considered that encounters always take place under the supervision of the owner. The Alaskan Malamute is a dog that needs daily exercise combined with long walks and hikes in the open air. Leaving your dog locked up for long periods of time will cause your dog to develop stress or anxiety. In this regard, it is advisable for them to live in homes with an outdoor space that they can easily access. Regarding breed specific care, in order not to remove the natural protective layers of their skin, it is advisable to bathe the Alaskan Malamut every three months and to keep their hair in perfect condition, we will have to brush them once a day for first moistening their entire coat and using a soft brush with long bristles. Although the Alaskan Malamut is a dog with a very strong immune system, it is essential to follow the mandatory vaccination schedule to prevent them from contracting diseases such as rabies. Some of the most common conditions in this breed are hip dysplasia, heatstroke and kidney failure. To identify them in time, we will have to take our dog to the vet periodically for an exam.
