Mantenimiento básico del Acuario Mbuna 🐟: 【Serie: Parte 5】

This is a YouTube video titled "Mantenimiento básico del Acuario Mbuna 🐟: 【Serie: Parte 5】" created in January 2025. The content is a detailed monologue by a single speaker explaining the maintenance of a Mbuna aquarium, focusing on algae growth, water chemistry analysis, and filtration techniques. The speaker provides practical advice on controlling phosphates and silicates to manage algae and prepares the aquarium for new fish additions. The video is instructional and aimed at aquarium hobbyists.
Have you seen it? It's been over two weeks. The aquarium looks spectacular. As you can see, the fish are already out. It's really amazing. I'm doing a little maintenance now because I'm thinking about adding new fish. But first I want to tell you about these little algae that are growing on the rocks and the glass. It's normal. It's something that happens especially in this type of aquarium, because remember that we can't bring our cleaning squad here. We're going to explain why these little algae and also cyanobacteria usually appear. It's basically because they're in water and they're receiving a lot of light. This promotes the growth of algae. It's a natural process since this water also contains nutrients. Remember that when you add fish, the fish will obviously expel organic remains, which will help us create an almost perfect breeding ground. That's why these first algae are appearing. It's important not to worry at this point. What you have to do here is be consistent. Remember that to eliminate algae, you have to attack it in different areas. In this case, these are usually controlled quite well first by analyzing the water. And what do you have to analyze? I would recommend that you start by analyzing nitrates, phosphates, and silicates. In this case, I have already analyzed the nitrates. The nitrates were not very high then. What I have seen is that we are starting to have problems with phosphates. Phosphates are increasing. How do phosphates get into our aquarium? In different ways. One of the most common ways that phosphates enter our aquarium is through the food the fish feed. And we are not going to be able to correct that. What we will be able to do is counteract the harmful effects of phosphates with different products. We will talk about them later. On the other hand, I have also analyzed the silicates. I tell you, performing these analyses is very simple, and it is important to do it when you see the first algae appearance. Silicates enter our aquariums through running water. You can see it here. Let's first see how our phosphate levels are, which are starting to get high. We're already at 0.6mg l. This is cause for concern. Okay. On the other hand, let's see how we are in terms of silicates, another product that will feed the algae and basically make them grow. And in this case, we're already at the barrier. We're at 0.4. It's no longer safe. 0.4mg l here we're going to use a product That I recommend. It works wonderfully. This product, called Phos W, will help us reduce both phosphates and silicates. And it's completely safe for the aquarium. What are we going to do? Basically what we're going to do is use this absorbent load to absorb these by products. The algae will see that they have nothing to eat, and they're going to gradually collapse with this product. We're going to use about 200 milliliters of this product for this aquarium. It's a product that is a granule. We're going to put it inside this sock. And one thing. Once you're saturated, when more than four days have passed, from four to seven days, it is important that you throw it away and use a new product. It is true that this product cannot be refilled. It is a single use product. But it works really well. Where are we going to put it? Here is the thing. As I have already told you, this is an aquarium that I am making with items that I already have from previous aquariums. I don't know if you remember, but I had this tidal filter from the Sikken brand, which works wonderfully. And I am going to put my filter cartridge here. I am going to keep this filter on while I am using it to control algae. Here is a thing. Before using it, we are going to load a sock like this. I am going to use this so that it does not escape. We must rinse it with cold water. Why? Because it is a way to greatly reduce the dust that can enter the aquarium. Okay, Come on. Let's give it a little whiff here so that all the dust from the product comes out. Well, this will be enough. Okay, let's go inside. Here it is. Perfect. Remember that I'm using this filter for my chemical loads to control the water chemistry. Okay. With our phosphor product inside the filter, what we always have to do now is a little bit of manual mechanical cleaning. I've used Perlon because remember that it works very well to see where the problems are. And Prolon also works very well with these anubias plants to pass over them. And look. Look how all the algae that may be colonizing this plant come out. If this plant has a massive colonization of algae, the problem that's going to happen is that it's going to die because it can't photosynthesize. Look, I'm cleaning it very carefully like this. I would tell you, don't worry too much about the rocks. For the following, we are building a Mabuna cichlid aquarium. They are very territorial so we are going to have to move and configure it every time we add new fish and I can tell you right away that new fish will be added. We have to configure the rocks so I am not going to bother cleaning them for now. I am going to continue cleaning and caring for them. I am going to do a 10% water change. I am going to take advantage of siphoning very little because as you can see the bottom of the aquarium is almost perfect. I am going to take out a little water 10% which in this aquarium will be about 30L and with that it will be ready to introduce new fish. I hope you liked this video. I am super anxious to add new fish. The aquarium as you can see is looking wonderful.
