The zebra finch is known worldwide as the zebra finch and is native to Australia. In recent years, this small bird has become popular due to its easy maintenance and the joy it brings to the home. Depending on the area where it lives, the the size of each specimen can be larger or smaller and it can be found practically all over the world due to the large number of followers it has. The zebra finch is a really small bird measuring between 8 and 10 cm. Even so, we can see more robust specimens, usually for competition. They have a small and compact beak, red in males and orange in females. On the other hand, the youngest zebras have a black beak. Like most chicks, we can observe a marked sexual dysmorphism. Males have red cheeks, striped dewlap and pretty spots on the wings and tail. Females have simpler plumage consisting of a single black tear. Zebra finch can be found in a multitude of colors. The most popular plumages are without a doubt the common gray, the white, the mask or the black cheeks. There's a truly incredible variety of colors. The zebra finch has a very peculiar song. As with the plumage, their song also differs between males and females. Females emit simple and equal tones that vary in intensity and frequency. Males, on the other hand, repeat a melody that they learn from their parent inversion to their liking, especially if they live in a community. They usually spend the day chatting because they are very talkative. The zebra finch's diet is very simple. Basically, you will need specific seeds for zebra finches, a small amount of fruit or vegetables daily and have a givia bone within reach to provide calcium. Don't forget to also provide plenty of fresh water. A single day without water can be fatal for your little zebra finch. The zebra finch is a very nervous and active bird that needs exercise to avoid stress and anxiety. Without a doubt, flying is one of the best exercises it can do. For this reason, at Animal Expert we always recommend horizontal and spacious cages, even large aviaries. Adding fun sticks or toys to the cage are other options. On the other hand, it will need a lot of environmental enrichment. Whether listening to music, adding millet branches or with a companion. The zebra finch is not happy if it is alone. We recommend pairs of females or a male and several females to finish off its care. It is important to place a small pool in its cage in the summer that we will clean every day. The zebra finch loves to swim and cool off. A good way to improve its plumage, prevent mites and have fun. Keeping our zebra finch in check will be essential to quickly detect any health problems. You must be careful when handling it to prevent fractures in its delicate bones. You should also have bone or calcium within reach, which will help it, as we have already said, to avoid problems related to its beak and provide it with adequate calcium. On the other hand, if we keep it outdoors, it can suffer an infestation of parasites. We must deworm them regularly with specific products. Finally, and to finish with health problems, we will mention that female damselflies are prone to suffering from the well known stuck egg. After generations of intense breeding, we are faced with a bird that lays eggs in a very consistent and regular manner. Feed your birds completely and provide them with plenty of calcium to avoid problems. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with whoever you want. See you in the next video.
