You have a hard time trimming your cat's nails. Although it's not something we should do routinely, there are some occasions when we have no choice. In fact, it's one of the most dreaded tasks for families. But I'm going to tell you about an alternative way to do it. A team from the University of California has developed a new method to make trimming nails less complicated and traumatic. It's called cooperative care. First, choose a quiet room and place a mat or small rug on the floor. Second, positive association. When your cat places its front paws on the mat, reward it with petting or a treat, but don't cut anything yet. Third, once it's comfortable with the mat, try trimming just one nail, just one, and then reward it again. Fourth, repeat the process in the following days.
