Hello and welcome to this new video from Expert Animal. Today we'll be talking about parbovirus, also known as parbovirosis, a highly contagious disease that can be fatal. Find out below what the characteristic symptoms of this disease are and what you should do to prevent it. Canine parbovirus is a virus that was identified in 1978. Since then, the initial CP has varied genetically, causing different manifestations and making it difficult to detect. All types of members of the Canidae family, such as dogs, wolves and coyotes, are susceptible to it. This infectious disease is resistant to both physical and chemical factors and has a very high survival rate in the environment. It has a predilection for settling in rapidly reproducing cells such as intestinal cells, tissues of the immune system or fetal tissues. In the most severe cases, it can attack the heart muscle, which leads to sudden death. It is possible to detect parbovirus thanks to the most common symptoms. In the event that a dog contracts this virus, it will always show Some symptoms of parbovirus include decreased appetite, severe vomiting the dog appears sleepy, inactive or very tired profuse bloody diarrhea, fever, rapid dehydration, weakness it may go into shock due to fluid loss. The heart may also be affected. Parbovirus is often confused with gastroenter, which can lead to it being detected late when the animal is already very weak. Although there are breeds that are more vulnerable to this type of virus, such as the German Shepherd, Doberman, Pit bull, Terrier or Rottweiler, there are also factors that can predispose your pet, such as stress, intestinal parasites or overcrowding. This virus usually affects puppies under six months of age, although it also frequently affects unvaccinated adult dogs. That is why we always emphasize the importance of regular visits to the vet and following your dog's vaccination schedule. Although parbovirus can be diagnosed by simply observing the clinical symptoms displayed by the dog, it should always be confirmed by laboratory tests. The veterinarian will examine stool samples to determine the presence of canine parbovirus antigens using a diagnostic kit. If your dog has been infected with Parvo, take it to the veterinarian immediately to confirm the presence of the virus. It is very important to note that there is no 100% effective treatment to combat Parvo virus. Veterinarians follow a series of measures that help combat the symptoms like such as rehydration, blood transfusions, fluid therapy, use of antibiotics and antiemetics or alternative drugs. In the most severe cases, the dog is usually admitted to an infectious ward. When the patient is at home. The owner should try to keep the dog hydrated at all times, encouraging it to drink water. A soft diet based on rice, chicken or wet gastrointestinal food should also be offered. Strict adherence to the vaccination schedule is the most effective way to prevent this virus, which can often be fatal. It is usually administered for the first time when the dog is a puppy at six weeks of age, but it can be administered earlier if it is considered to be at risk before reaching adulthood. The administration is repeated at 8 and 12 weeks. Finally, a booster is administered annually so that the dog continues to be protected against the virus. Finally, we would like to remind you that any owner who has had a dog with parbovirus should wait at least six months to adopt a second dog, as it is very resistant and persists in the environment. The area should be cleaned using bleach and ammonia products that must be used separately and must be applied using gloves, a mask and in a well ventilated environment. We hope that this video can help many people to quickly detect parbovirus, which means a better prognosis.
