Welcome to this new video from Animal Expert. Today we'll be talking about the main differences between the Belgian shepherd and the German Shepherd. The German shepherd originated in Germany in 1899. Its breeding began with the intention of developing a highly intelligent working dog and great success was expected from the beginning. On the other hand, the Belgian shepherd began to be developed a few years earlier, between 1891 and 1897, and was considered a dog for humble people without prestige. It was also developed as a working dog. Physically, we can be surprised by the large number of variants that we would find within each of these two breeds. There are four varieties of Belgian shepherd according to the fci. The Gronita, in the Equinois, the Malinois and the Turbaran. All of them are considered the same, although in morphological competitions they are judged separately according to the code of each one. On the other hand, there are also two varieties of German shepherd, the short haired and the long haired. Aside from their coat, they can also be differentiated by size and weight. The German shepherd is noticeably heavier than the Belgian Shepherd. On the other hand, in terms of height, they are quite similar and tend to reach similar measurements. In terms of temperament, we can highlight that the German shepherd is one of the most intelligent dogs in the world. It stands out for its balanced personality, its positive nature and its predisposition to watchdog. It is an excellent dog in practically any field or discipline. The Belgian shepherd is an active dog with great vitality. Its past as a shepherd dog has given it a great predisposition to guarding flocks and properties, making it a very brave and protective dog. It is a very self confident, intelligent and alert dog. To finish this comparison between the German shepherd and the Belgian shepherd, we will talk about the longevity and health problems of each of these breeds. While the German shepherd usually lives between 9 and 1313 years, the Belgian shepherd lives between 10 and 15. This may be related to the health problems that frequently affect the German shepherd, due in part to irresponsible breeding that has been carried out for generations, mainly due to the search for ideal physical characteristics. For this reason, the German shepherd has a greater tendency to suffer from hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cancer or glaucoma, among others. The Belgian shepherd, on the other hand, is considered a much healthier breed. Creators have always prioritized the physical and intellectual abilities of this dog, which is why its genetic makeup is more varied. Even so, it is also susceptible to suffering from hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts or epilepsy and that's it for today's video. What did you think?
