Welcome to this new video from Animal Expert. Today we'll be talking about one of the most popular breeds in the world, the Beagle. You can't miss it. The origins of the beagle, or English beagle, date back to Genophon, a Greek writer, historian and military man who in his treatise on hunting talks about a chahuay. So that could well be the first beagle. Later in the 17th century and after a more intense selection of hunting dogs, we found the Pocket Beagle, a dog that is now extinct, but that was very popular in its time. Various distinguished figures such as Queen Elizabeth and King Henry VII had one. The beagle that we know today began its popularity in 1840 when they were exported to the United States as hunting dogs, although it was not until 1870 that they began to be considered domestic dogs. The standard that we know today descends from the foxhound, a large hunting dog. The Beagle is a well proportioned, muscular dog with a well defined chest. They have an elongated head and large drooping ears. The height at the withers is between 33 and 41 centimeters, while their weight is around 8 or 16 kilogram. The colors that a beagle can show are divided into tricolor or bicolor, always with shades of white, brown and black. Many people want to have a beagle dog solely for its physical appearance, since they are very sweet dogs from puppyhood to adulthood. However, when we make a decision as important as adopting a dog, we have to know their behavior. The Beagle is not a dog suitable for any family. They are very active dogs with a strong hunting instinct and a somewhat independent nature. They are intelligent, impulsive dogs and very easy to stimulate. They can fit into an active family that goes on excursions or is passionate about dog sports. They can also be ideal for a family with slightly older children who love playing with the dog and spending time exercising it. On the other hand, it is not a breed suitable for calm and sedentary families. When properly socialized, they can get along wonderfully with other dogs and cats. However, when it comes to small mammals, exotic animals or birds, their relationship should be supervised. The bagel's coat does not require excessive care. A couple of weekly brushings and a monthly bath will suffice. We recommend using a rubber glove in specific dog bathing products. Due to the morphology of their ears, which predispose them to having a moist interior and therefore to suffering from mites, we recommend cleaning them weekly with a sterile gauze. As this is such an active dog, it is advisable to take it on three, four daily Walks where it can sniff, relax, socialize with other dogs and enjoy about 10 minutes off leash at the dog park. Even so, it is recommended that it receives a small session of moderate exercise every day. It may be interesting to go running, join an agility club, practice obedience and canine skills at a training center, or simply go on a short excursion to the mountains. Of course, due to their high energy level, it is essential that we learn to perform calming and relaxation exercises that will compensate for intense daily activities. The Beagle is a very intelligent dog, and to train it correctly, we must use positive reinforcement. When it is a puppy, we must teach it to control its bite, to urinate on a newspaper, and to socialize with all types of people and animals. Later, in its adult stage, we must introduce it to basic obedience, essential for its safety and for a good coexistence. To keep it mentally active, we can introduce it to canine skills, sports and various activities. But without a doubt, the Beagle is an excellent tracking dog. Its incredible sense of smell can make it a great drug. Explosives or lost person detection dog. It has no limits. Finally, we will talk about its health. Like any dog, the Beagle should enjoy a preventive medicine plan with veterinary checkups that help us detect any health problems early. It is advisable to go to the vet every six or 12 months, although in sporty dogs, it is advisable to have them every three months. In addition, the vaccination and deworming schedule must be followed. Some of the most common diseases in Beagles are pulmonary stenosis, various eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma, deafness, ataxia, sexual inversion and epilepsy. Even so, the Beagle is a breed that is generally quite healthy and can be with us for between 12 and 16 years. And that's it for today's video. If you like Beagles as much as we do, give us a like. Don't forget to subscribe to the channel and we'll see you in the next video. Until next time, experts.
