The video is presented by a single speaker identified as an animal expert and is aimed at dog enthusiasts.
Corgis are undoubtedly one of the most popular breeds today. Their unusual appearance and Queen Elizabeth II's fondness for the breed have seen these dogs go from humble sheepdogs to almost members of canine royalty. Want to know more about corgis? Find out below in this new video from an animal expert. In the past, the common ancestors of the Pembroke and Cardigan corgis were used in South Wales as guardians, herders and dog handlers. However, the Cardigan breed was developed in the county of Cardiganshire while the Penrook was developed in the Welsh county of Penbrokshire where the breed gets its name. The Cardigan and Pembroke were considered to be the same dog breed until 1934 when it was decided that they should be separated into two separate dog breeds. From that year on the popularity of the WSK Penbroke increased while that of the Cardigan decreased. The breed became even more popular when Queen Elizabeth II became fond of these dogs and began breeding them. Both breeds are considered medium sized dogs and are characterized by their small sturdy bodies. They are short and long with short thick legs. Their erect ears and rounded face do not resemble a fox in morphology. They tend to have an alert and intelligent expression. There are some differences between the two breeds. The Pembroke Corgi is slightly smaller with a height at the withers of between 25 and 30 centimeters. They usually weigh between 10 and 12 kilogram. Unlike its closest relative, the Pembroke Corgi is born with a curly tail or no tail at all while the Cardigan Corgi is long and straight. The Cardigan Corgi is somewhat larger with a height at the withers of around 30cm. Although there is no ideal weight, it should be proportionate to its size. The Cardigan's coat is highly variable as it can be blue, merle, brindle, sand red or tricolor. In contrast, the Pinoak is usually white with red or fawn markings or tricolor with red, black and white markings. The temperament of both breeds is very similar. They are active, intelligent and alert dogs. They are usually friendly with people and very loyal to their family. Like most herding dogs, WS Corgis need a lot of physical and mental stimulation as well as frequent companionship. The most common behavior behavioral problem of the breed is vocalization which is usually related to lack of companionship, loneliness and lack of stimulation. Grooming is simple. Usually brushing twice a week is enough and it is not necessary to bathe these dogs very frequently. Corgis need daily exercise for this, taking two or three walks a day accompanied by some playtime will be enough. Of course, sports such as agility should be avoided as jumping could damage their spine. These are very intelligent dogs that learn easily. Dog training is not only useful for their safety, it is a necessity to meet their intellectual needs. We must pay attention and socialize them with all types of people, animals and environments during their puppy stage. Otherwise, we may be dealing with an adult corgi that is shy, distrustful and even aggressive. The best qualities of corgis come to the fore when training is positive. So we will work on basic obedience commands, but we can also practice advanced commands or canine skills with them. Corgis are prone to developing some canine diseases such as hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy or degenerative myelopathy. We will also pay attention to obesity as it can lead to joint damage, osteoarthritis and other degenerative problems. To prevent and detect any disease, it is advisable to visit the vet every six or 12 months, follow the vaccination schedule correctly and deworm them internally and externally on a regular basis. By following these tips, a corgi can live between 12 and 14 years. Did you enjoy this video? If so, give us a like subscribe to our channel.
