Por qué DEBES TRATAR A TU GATO COMO SI FUERA TU HIJO 👪🧡😸¿Qué debes evitar?

Veterinarian Carlos explains why treating your cat like a child can strengthen your bond, but warns against over-humanizing them. He covers responsible care, feline behavior, and what to avoid to keep your cat healthy and happy.
If you're not already doing it, you should start treating your cat like your child. You'll be doing it a huge favor, and today I'll tell you why. Hi, I'm Carlos and I'm a veterinarian and this is Alchofo. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. I'm sure that the topic I'm bringing you today has generated quite a bit of controversy and perhaps some uncomfortable conversations, I don't know, at a Christmas dinner, because people tell you that you shouldn't treat your cats like they're your children. And I'm not referring to talking to them like they're babies, which I already told you is a very effective technique for communicating with your feline companion, but rather treating them like that, like they're a small child, like they're your child that you're in charge of, and that, well, you have to set rules for them, you have to tell them things and you treat them as such. And then of course, there's always the typical smart aleck who tells you that there are now more dogs than children in society, that cats will soon replace small children at home, and, well, they're basing their opinions on some news that comes out. I honestly don't know if they're true. What I can tell you is that treating your cat like your child gives you a lot of advantages. There are also some drawbacks, mind you. But look, we're going to break them all down in today's video so that we can understand them perfectly. But first of all, it's greatly appreciated and above all, it helps us a lot with the algorithm issue. If you show love to the video, give it a like, share it with everyone, subscribe to the channel, and above all, if you want to support us a lot, you can give us a super thank you. Because it's good to treat your cat like your child. It has been shown well, and I'll leave all the articles here below in the description box so you can go ahead and take a look. That people who treat their cats as if they were their children or as a member of the family are able to attribute more positive abilities or qualities to them. They see them as loyal, empathetic companions, beings dependent on our love and care. Obviously, if you see that your cat is going to depend on you to take care of it, to attend to its basic needs, this is something positive because you're going to be much more aware of all the things that your cat may need. You're going to have small alarms if you see that for Whatever reason, your cat's behavior is not normal. In other words, you, it's like if it were your child, if your child has a fever, you suddenly think, oh, what's wrong with it? You get worried, right? You call the doctor, see if you can help it in some way. Ultimately, it's about not making distinctions between the living beings in your care and treating them in a way that positively impacts their well being. This also helps us to be a little more curious and to learn more. Like you're doing right now on the channel with these videos, right? So in the end, we're more aware of our cats behaviors and needs. It's also been shown that people who are aware of them and who think more about their cats needs will take much better care of them. And it's been shown that those cats end up having fewer behavioral problems. And all the people who treat their cats like this. Therefore get rid of all those preconceived ideas and prejudices about, for example, negative characteristics of cats that are often repeated out there. I don't know, that they're individualistic, that they're treacherous, that they're unsociable, solitary. All that disappears from our minds in a flash. But also, people who see their cats as members of their family don't foolishly let them expose themselves to unnecessary risks. For example, we don't let them go outside without supervision because we probably don't have the idea in our heads that cats used to hunt and take care of themselves in the wild. Well, yes, they used to do a lot of things when they were wild animals, but now they live inside our homes and we want to prevent them from being exposed to any type of risk that lurks on the street. And as you can see, all this will necessarily end up making your cat feel better, having fewer chances of encountering something that could harm them, and ultimately improving and strengthening your bond as a family because you are more aware of what your cat needs. But of course this is not that simple because you may not see your cat as a member of your family or as a child because your personality is preventing you from doing so. People who treat their cats as members of their family have a series of very specific personality traits such as extroversion, kindness, which would be more related to dedication to affection and care for the cat, and awareness, having much more in mind what our cat needs in terms of its environment so that it is more structured for its health and well being. But hey, treating our cat as if it were our child is obviously not going to be so nice in 100% of cases, there are times when especially some people go too far and end up humanizing their cat excessively. And I can tell you that this does not bring any good on the one hand, because it can start to generate false expectations about how your cat, for example, is going to behave. After all, your feline companion is an animal that has specific characteristics and behaviors and that will sometimes lead it to do things that you may not like. If we see a small child in him, of course we're going to see everything with love and with well, my kitty will always listen to me. Hey, maybe your cat will disappoint you because he doesn't always come when you call him, or because he suddenly starts marking the new sofa you just bought with his little claws. You can't get mad at your cat for that type of behavior because it's purely feline. You have to understand that although we have to treat our cat like a member of our family, he's not really a human being. He's not going to follow certain rules just because we want him to. Hey, we're going to have to explain them much, much better than if he were a small child. And for that, we have to understand all the ways we have at our disposal to educate our cats. But this is a topic that we've already covered a lot on the channel. I'll leave you some videos below that you might find useful. In addition, when some cats have a very strong and slightly toxic bond, they can develop what is called separation anxiety or destructive behaviors related to being separated from their humans. When we put too much effort into our relationship with our cat, our feline companion can become dependent on us and on our physical presence in the home. And when we are not with them, our cat begins to suffer a great deal of stress that ends up leading to certain types of behaviors that are usually destructive. I have also talked about this here on the channel, and I have left the video below for you to check out. So I don't want you to directly associate thinking that your cat is a member of your family or treating it like a child with having it poorly raised, being on top of it all day, not letting it express itself in its daily activities in what your cat needs, exploring, searching, stalking, hunting, etc. Etc. Because if we take away all those feline behaviors and conduct, in the end we are distorting what it really is, which is a cat. Even if it is a member of your family, it is a cat. And something else apart from the stress that can be produced in the Cat is what can affect you. Another thing that has been described that can affect many people is guilt over raising cats, which is a syndrome, a psychological disorder that is expressed when we feel incapable, overwhelmed by the situation of raising a cat. And many times this is closely related to all those false expectations that we can create for ourselves. For example, if your cat starts peeing outside the litter box, which is a behavior that takes a long time to correct, you start looking for all the solutions you have at your disposal, and you try everything. But you can't get your cat to stop behaving that way. There are many people who get frustrated and even depressed. They have a really bad time because they say, oh, I can't train my cat properly. I can't make my cat happy. Quote. This also happens a lot to people who, when introducing two cats to their home, see that things don't go as well as they had hoped. In the end, they get frustrated and often even throw in the towel. Especially because in these cases of guilt over raising cats, society generally doesn't validate these feelings. And so people find themselves alone because they are going to tell their problem what is overwhelming them, what is mentally exhausting them to someone else. And they say, well, it's not that bad. Surely your cat isn't that bad, or surely it's not that difficult. Hey, get used to living with your cat like this. And of course, in the end, by not having that feedback from the rest of society, they isolate themselves and that leads them to an even deeper state of depression. So, as you can see, when the situation gets a little out of hand and, well, we confuse the terms or the boundaries, the red lines where they are, of considering our cat a member of the family and humanizing it excessively, it can also lead to tremendously negative consequences. But hey, I don't want to stop there. Obviously, when we treat our cat as a member of the family in a balanced and healthy way, that also has a positive impact on us with a lot of emotions. Well, it has been shown that cats increase our oxytocin, and this hormone makes us feel happy and connected, and it also activates certain areas of our brain that elevate our mood. So many times when we feel a bit embarrassed about talking about how we treat our cat because, I don't know, we feel judged by society because people say, oh, this guy is the typical crazy cat person who thinks his cats are his children, and because of that, he's filled his house with cats. It's not about humanizing them. It's not about Us being overly protective parents, afraid that anything could happen to our cat, but rather about being truly aware of what our cat's needs are, treating them as such, and making sure that they lack absolutely nothing in their environment so that they feel fulfilled by our side. And all of this, when done well, has very good consequences for both your cat and you. And be careful. I have also suffered a lot from this with the exposure we have here on the channel. Because there are many people who comment on the videos who tell me that I, a veterinarian, I should know what cats need. So I treat them as if they were a member of my family. For example, I remember when the caterer came the first time, that video had a lot of comments where people told me, well, what I needed was to get a cat sitter. Listen, look, I can't leave my cat alone at home for a weekend or even for three or four days because my cat needs contact with people, but also for someone to take care of him, to see that he's okay. That doesn't mean that I'm humanizing my cat, but that I'm just looking out for his well being and for what my cat really needs to live and well be happy in my home. And I'm sure you can tell me this in the comments. Have you ever been told, hey, you're crazy for doing this or that with your feline companion? We're going to do a little group therapy here. So I don't know what you thought about the topic of today's video, but surely the next time someone says to you, hey, but you treat your cat like it's your real child, you might smile and say, I have many reasons that I've explained to you in the video for doing it and that's beneficial for my cat. In any case, if you like the video, as you know, you can give us a like and subscribe to the channel. If you haven't already, remember that we have a secondary channel called Questions and Answers from a Veterinarian. And if you want to support this channel so that it continues making videos about cats and you can annoy people with the things I tell you, you can give us a super thans. And before we go, we meet these two beauties who are so calm and relaxed. Their names are Coco and Chloe. They greet us from Toledo with their human companion, Daniela. Don't you see a cat shaped lamp? Her name is Lila and the poor thing had her Elizabethan collar on at the time of the photo. She greets us from Barcelona with her partner, Rosa and from Mexico City, Rimina and Barbara greet us, resting peacefully next to their human partner, Samantha. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families Channel. And here, with all the summer heat, we'll be waiting for you, El Cachofo and I, in the next video.
Yes, of course. As if you give him a treat. There. The cat will come, man, look, he's coming. No, he hasn't moved now. Yes. Come, come. Look at him. Food. Look at him. Like the Pied Piper of Melon. Come, Chops. Look T. Don't tell me. Don't tell me that this cat would survive in the wild, because. Come on. Incredible. It can't be true. Now. And now here a little bit. Nothing.
If he doesn't want to either, because it's hotter. Come on, come on. I'm sure your cat does the same to you in the summer. He doesn't want to be near you. Okay, but let's get to the point. Why is it a good thing for you to treat your child? Not your child, but your cat? Why is it a good thing for you to treat your child, but don't do it that way. Why is it a good thing for you to treat your child? Your cats. But I'm an idiot. Why is it a good thing for you to treat your child? Don't do it that way. That's how it was one Sunday afternoon I went to the bumper cars.
