Hi, we're Adriana and this is Gyro Border Collie from the Gyro Border Collie YouTube channel. Today we're here with animal expert to explain a couple of things about dog training. More specifically, the topic of dog skills. Okay? Why it's important and good to work on dog skills. Dog skills are very nice to watch and people think that they're just tricks that we teach the dog to look cute and act the fool. But that's not all. There's a lot of work behind it and it's important to know why, apart from working on dog skills to put on a show, why do we work on them? Okay. Dogs, as you all know, need mental and physical stimulation. And part of that mental stimulation is the work we do with dogs. And in this case, dog skills are an example of that mental work that we can do with dogs. Come here, King. Come here. Take it. Okay, so why is it important to work on dog skills? First of all, mental stimulation helps the dog to be more balanced, to be a calmer dog, right? And it also helps with their concentration. In other words, when we work with the dog, the dog is focused on us, and that also greatly strengthens the bond between owner and dog, right? Everything we do with the dog will always help us create that bond. That will make it easier for the dog to obey us, pay more attention to us, and not be so rebellious. Another aspect that helps us work with our dog through mental skills is concentration, proportion and balance. In other words, every dog needs to be aware of its own body and that will give it much more confidence towards itself and towards others. Right? So canine skills are included in these types of balance and positioning exercises, right? Another thing is that we can apply canine skills to everyday life. That is, for example, if we are walking and we stop at a traffic light, if the dog is in the wrong place, in a place where a lot of people are passing by, we can give it the order to go around us and go to the other side. That would be, for example, a canine skill, right? And with this, many other things in our day to day life, such as while we are walking, going shopping, going to the park, basic obedience with the whole topic of canine skills can help us create that bond and work better with our dog. It is also important for everyone to know that not only a border collie can do canine skills, but that all dogs and all of them will do very well working on them. Right? In addition, it is also important to keep in mind that it must be worked on with positive reinforcement, trying not to punish the dog for something it does not know how to do yet. Right? When we are teaching in the process, we only reward what it does well and do not punish what it does not know how to do yet. Right? And if we manage to work at our dog's pace, it's even more demanding. And the bond, the connection that we have with our dog will be incredible. Well, that's it for today's video. I hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to follow us on our YouTube channel, gyroboarder Collie, to see more skill videos. And, well, thank the animal expert for the opportunity to record with them.
