¿Por qué los veterinarios no queremos que tu gato tome leche? 🥛🙀| ¿Es tan mala?

This is a YouTube video titled "¿Por qué los veterinarios no queremos que tu gato tome leche? 🥛🙀| ¿Es tan mala?" created in September 2019. The content features a clinical veterinarian named Carlos discussing the effects of milk on cats, explaining lactose intolerance, nutritional concerns, and veterinary recommendations. The video also includes informal conversational segments with another speaker, but Javier Pariente is not present.
Is milk good or bad for cats? Are you interested in this topic? Well, stay and watch this video. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. There are two universal truths about cats and milk. The first is that cats love milk. And the second is that veterinarians always recommend that you don't give milk to your feline companions because it makes them sick. But should you give your cat milk or not? This is a very common question among first time cat parents who, for example, are having breakfast in the morning and their cat pesters them, asking them to meow, meow. And of course, two images come to mind. On the one hand, s veterinarians telling you, no, no. On the other hand, there are all those cartoons where you see cats drinking milk happily, or videos on the Internet where you see cats having a great time drinking milk. Or in so many Hollywood movies, are all those cats drinking poison for themselves? Is milk really bad for cats, as they say? Well, what I have to tell you today will survive surprise you. You've probably heard vets tell you many times not to give your cats milk because it will make them very sick. Of course, at that moment there are people who think, well, if cats drink it when they're little, for example, from their mother's teat, how is it possible that it will make them sick when they're adults? And the answer to all this is very simple. As cats grow up, they gradually become lactose intolerant. Therefore, an adult cat that drinks milk may have gastrointestinal problems which may make them feel sick, and they may have diarrhea or gas, for example. And I'm going to get ahead of one of the typical questions that probably comes to mind right now. Maybe if you're very observant, you've read the label on your cat's food, which not many people do, but maybe you have, and I always recommend that you do. And suddenly, among the ingredients of the food, it says milk. Of course, I'm shocked. How can my cat's food have milk? Cats are lactose intolerant. Oh my God, this brand. This brand is going to kill my cat because it's a brand of. And my cat goes down the leg and well, that's it. You cut me off whenever you want. So what's the deal? If milk is so bad, why do they put it in some foods? Well, okay, after so much clickbait, I'm here as always to tell you that not everything is black and white and that there are a Lot of nuances, but logically that doesn't sell as much. The fact is that cats are not 100% lactose intolerant and can consume a small amount of lactose before it makes them sick. This is precisely the reason why some people feed their cats yogurt, for example, and they don't die or anything like that. Let's go back to my parents who always let my Lou scrape the yogurt container or even give her a little bit with a spoon. And I'm embarrassed to tell them to please not give her yogurt because it will make the cat sick. But you know, at the blacksmith's house, my mother tells me that I'm exaggerating, that the cat is completely fine because it goes to the litter box and has perfectly hard poop and never has a single day with diarrhea. Let's see if I'm wrong. And of course all this makes sense. As I'm saying, there is a small amount of lactose that cats can consume without having any kind of health problems. It has been calculated that There are approximately 6 grams of lactose, which is also approximately equivalent to half a glass of milk per day for a cat weighing approximately 4 kilogram. And what happens if they drink more? Well, of course, that's when diarrhea, flatulence and gas begin. And your cat could feel very unwell after drinking so much milk.
And if lactose free milk. Well, it has actually been shown that if a cat were to eat a diet based solely on milk, even if it were lactose free, it would have serious deficits in taurine, magnesium, iron, copper, vitamin D or vitamin A. So milk, even if it didn't give it diarrhea, is not a complete food for a cat because it has significant deficiencies in essential nutrients for it. But it could be given to it in larger quantities. In that case, you could give it more milk, you would probably be giving it more calories, your cat would probably gain weight and well, it might not be a balanced diet for your cat because milk also provides fat, protein, etc. Come on, I'm not making this up. Below is a very interesting article that gives you a brief summary of the subject of milk and cats.
And I've heard that cow's milk is the worst milk you can give cats. Well, I don't know if it's the worst or not for cats, but milk is made up of a large number of so called ingredients. On the one hand we have lactose, which is sugar, but we also have proteins and fat. If you give a kitten milk that is not the right one for it because it is not from its species. You may be malnourishing it because you are not giving it enough protein or enough fat, and the kitten will not be able to develop as it should. But if we know that your cat won't get hurt with less than half a glass of cow's milk a day, why do we vets insist on prohibiting milk under any circumstances? Well, it's not because we want to deprive your cat of that delicacy of the gods that milk is for them, but because we simply don't know how much lactose they are taking in through other channels. As I'm saying, their feed or even the treats you give them may also contain it. Just imagine if you give them a little bit of milk that exceeds that limit and your cat doesn't feel bad, why we don't recommend it. Be careful. And let's make it very clear that all treats and treats that contain lactose are completely safe for your cat because they are specifically formulated so that the amount of lactose won't upset them. But if we add a little yogurt here, a little milk in the morning when I wake up for breakfast, a little ham, most of which also have lactose, in general terms, we are exceeding the amount of lactose that your cat can digest, and we are turning your cat into a time bomb that if it explodes, it will ruin your litter box. And of course, we are talking about estimated figures. This is not mathematics here. 2. 2 does not always equal 4, because it could be that your cat has a lower tolerance to lactose than the study says, or that your cat could be allergic to lactose. In these cases, it has a high tolerance to lactose. Put a sign here saying that, says no food or something like that. For all these reasons, and because it is not necessary for feeding your cat because all of its needs are covered with the food that you give it. This is why veterinarians do not recommend that you give your cat cows milk under any circumstances. Nor milk, nor dairy products, nor the yogurt that my parents give my cat. Furthermore, in the case of small kittens, we do not recommend that you give them cows milk either, because as I said before, it can make them very sick. And diarrhea in a small cat can be very dangerous. And now comes the last question. If you find a kitten abandoned in the middle of the night and you have nothing, nothing, nothing to feed it, can I give it cow's milk? Well, hey, if you only Give it a little bit to get through the night and the next day go to the vet and buy it cat formula. Well, hey, before it dies, it is logically preferable because with a small amount it is likely that the cat will not feel bad at all. However, if you are going to skip cat formulas and use only cow's milk, you should know that you will be malnourishing your cat. So as you can see, although your cats can digest up to a certain amount of lactose, it is much safer if you choose not to give them dairy products because they may love the taste and even prefer it to water. However, you have to be there to put your head around the situation and decide what your cat can and cannot eat and that what you give them is 100% safe for them. Or do you want to always be playing Russian roulette with your cat's diet until you see if something bad happens to them or not? There you go. And that's it for today's video. Today we're going to continue with Guatemala.
The capital of Guatemala.
Hey, this isn't worth it. I should have looked it up on Wikipedia before greeting the people of Guatemala.
Guatemala City.
Ah, Guatemala City. Well, I was going to tell you. I was going to say Guatemala City, but I said no. No, I'm not going to go off topic.
I did know. You didn't.
Yes, yes. You have Wikipedia open. Don't put it. Okay, seriously. Summa Robe tells us you're excellent. Thanks for the video. I loved it. A hug from Guatemal. A hug for you, Summa. Susan, 1516 also greets us, telling us that she sends us greetings from Guatemala and that she loves our videos. Greetings to you too, Susan. Jorge Simone has also greeted us from Guatemala and tells us that each video provides a little more information. Greetings from Guatemala, Central America. Sincerely, Jorge Simone. Well, greetings to you, Jorge. Sincerely, Carlos. Hey, I like it when people are so polite. You know Andrea Borst tells me excellent information and thank you very much for the scientific contribution. Hugs from Guatemala. Well, a hug to you, Andrea. And now for the last one, Mihira Orozuko, who many of you probably know because she appeared in our special video number 100 of the channel, tells us, I'm going to bring your mommy to Guatemala so she can give Mara Jade's little fire a good brushing. Hey, I didn't see Mara Jade is so fierce when you showed her to us in the video, but maybe it's because she doesn't get along with the brush. My Lu doesn't get along with the brush either, but my mother takes it and tames the beasts. Greetings to you, Mihira, and thanks for participating in our Special video number 100.
Well, in all of them.
Well, but in that one I was excited to meet her family. And anyway, if you want us to greet you when it's your country's turn, what you have to do is tell us where you're writing to us from in the comments of the videos and we'll greet you when the time comes. Greetings. And until next week, how many greetings? No, in the end, what I bring.
You today may make me confront all my fellow veterinarians, but I don't care. I do this and much more for you. A bit dramatic, right? It's to give you a little sauce at the beginning. I had it here. Chan, Chan, Chan, Chan, Chan, Chan. M. I would prefer that you didn't put it. No, no, no, no. Because the components aren't. Well, no, no, no, no. Well, no, no, no. Don't put this in the video. What is the capital of Guatemala? Guatemala. I know very little about Guatemala, honestly. I know that here in Seville they have a very nice pavilion at the expo. Mr. Guatemalan, who is the president? Don't put the capital. It's very redneck. You don't know about capitals. Other places they insult me. Right, because those people have been educated. Yes, Guatemalan. Yes, very good. And the currency is the K tal.
Oh, look at the root cues. All Susan, 15, 16 also greets us. And Suma also greets us. No, Susan. Susan also greets us.
Redneck, you don't know anything. Shut up. Don't put this in the video or people will stop following us.
