¿Por qué mi gato deja comida en el plato? 😼🍽️| ¡Se comen solo el centro de su comedero!

Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, explains why cats leave food in their bowls and eat only from the center. He covers food preferences, feeding habits, illness, and discomfort from the dish itself.
This video will be very useful if your cat is one of those who says, did you leave food on the plate? No, I don't want anymore. For you to finish your food? No, for you to eat all the food on the plate. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian in small animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. What do you mean it doesn't worry you that your cat leaves food on the plate? Well, it should because it can indicate a lot of things. And for all those people who have asked me over and over again what it means when their cat leaves food or what happens to their cat because it doesn't want to finish its plate of food, this video is dedicated to them because I have identified some of the most frequent reasons why cats leave food on their plate, and I'm going to tell you all about them in this video. Some of them may seem a bit obvious to you, but I'm sure I'm going to tell you things that you don't know. And let's start with the most obvious, that they don't like their food. This type of cause is usually triggered when there has been a change in the cat's diet. In other words, if they used to eat one thing and then later on in their life they started eating something else, or you wanted them to eat something else. If you have changed your cat's food, feed, care, kibble, you know, the usual stuff and you haven't done it. As I already told you on the channel, in that very successful video that not even Perry has seen, it is possible that your cat has wanted to stop eating that delicious food that has cost you an arm and a leg. And since you haven't presented it to them properly, they don't like it. But as I say, it doesn't just depend on whether you have changed the brand of food, but also whether someone at home, for example, has started giving them something that is much tastier, more succulent, like homemade food or canned food. This also happens a lot to cats that have been sick, that have been ill, that we have been giving them dry food so that they can eat a little more, and that, well, when they have recovered, they have had to go back to dry food. These types of cats say, look, I don't eat what they put in front of me, this stuff that is dry and disgusting, and I prefer that they give me something else which is much more delicious. In these cases, I recommend patience, be much more patient than your cat, and well, keep putting food in front of him little by little. Until he understands that there is nothing else and that if he doesn't eat that he won't eat. Hey, up to a limit, right? Not really, but if you insist, the cat will end up eating. And one more thing I just remembered before moving on to the next one, there are some cats that get bored of their food. In cats that are a bit picky about their food, you might consider changing the flavor of the kibble you are giving them from time to time. Change it gradually. You know, as I told you here on the channel, you can only do this with cats that do not require a specific diet or that do not have a sensitivity or intolerance to a certain type of food. Because in those cases, what you have to give them is their diet and nothing else. Well, and you probably already noticed what I just told you because you made the change or introduced a new food into their diet or whatever, and from that moment on you saw that they eat a little less. But what I am going to tell you now is something that you could be doing and that is causing your cat to not finish their food. Guilt, right? Hey, we are not talking about guilt here. We are talking about responsibility. And that is filling their food bowl with more than they can handle. There are still many people and even many veterinarians who usually recommend that you leave food out for cats all day, that you fill their bowl in the morning and leave it there so that they can dose themselves. Well, those people are a bit out of date because there are new studies that say that you shouldn't feed a cat like that. I always recommend that you feed your feline companion in small doses, spread throughout the day. If you leave the dish full of food to begin with, some cats get overwhelmed and logically, they can't finish all that food because it's too much. They get full sooner. But also that food ends up going rancid. It ends up getting damp from the humidity in the air. And so the cat doesn't like it. And that's why when it goes back to the dish, the it doesn't want to eat it. In fact, there are many people who say, well, I'll just leave it there and have it and that way I won't have to keep filling the bowl. Perfect, right? Well, no, it's not. There are some cats, like my little Moon, who are stimulated when you fill their food bowl, even with four grains of kibble. And she would come to you to ask for food, even if she had food in her bowl. She liked it when you went over and gave her A little bit. It is recommended that cats always be fed this way. Very small amounts, many times a day, or even with automatic feeders with the exact amount of food for a single feeding, or with activity feeders or food dispensers that release a small amount of food for them, the one they need per feeding, that way they will never leave. And this is also very useful, which has nothing to do with the video, but I will leave it here for you. For those cats that are super anxious, and if you fill their food bowl and they just sit there eating until there's no tomorrow, if you ration their food even more, you're going to make them eat much less, get fuller with less food, and gain less weight. But getting back to the topic we're talking about today, another very important reason why cats leave food in their bowl is because they may be sick. In this case, you can start to notice because, for example, your cat starts vomiting, has diarrhea, or even salivates a lot. They start to leave their food behind as soon as the symptoms of illness begin to develop. So if you've noticed any changes in your cat, even if they're very small, and that's accompanied by the fact that before they wouldn't leave a single grain of food, and now they're leaving more and more food, or they don't even touch their food bowl at all, in those cases, you should obviously be concerned. In addition, these cats also tend to start losing weight. You'll see that they're starting to lose body condition and that their fur may also be a little dirty. Well, all of these signs are telling us that something's wrong with the cat. And as I always say, your cat's mouth can help you identify that something's wrong with it. And it's also something that you can look at at home with practically no effort. When it's asleep, you can lift its lip and see if its gums are red or not. Because many cats stop eating, because what's happening is that their mouth, gums and teeth hurt. They can't eat dry food because it bothers them, and that's why they prefer to leave it. The difference with respect to the previous points is that well before the cat would leave a small amount of what you had put in the bowl. The now you'll see that the cat practically doesn't eat anything that you put in front of it or doesn't even come near to eat. That, coupled with the fact that you notice your cat is a little strange because it's all white and in A bottle. And what do you have to do here? Call the ghost hunters. Sorry. You can go to the vet if you already know, because every time I get a message saying my cat has stopped eating and I see that he is vomiting. Can you help me? But what are you waiting for? Your cat is telling you, please take me to the vet. Also, in case you don't know, cats can't go long without eating. If a cat goes more than two days without eating, bad because their body will start using its fat to produce energy. And that can lead to a very, very serious problem with their liver. So at the first sign, run to the vet. Yes. Now you're going to tell me. But Carlos, I haven't changed his food. I don't give him too much either. And. And I don't see that he's sick. What does my cat want to make my life miserable? Well, a little bit. Because they're felines, right? No, there's actually one thing that a lot of people do wrong, and it has to do with cat's whiskers. Whiskers and food. How do these things come together? Have you ever noticed that the food your cat leaves you is the one on the edges of the plate that he eats his food as if it were in the shape of a donut? A donut he leaves half empty and the surroundings full of grains. Well, this could be telling you that your cat doesn't like his food plate very much. Why? Well, because it may be too narrow or have very high edges, and those edges rub against his whiskers. Cats don't like that feeling very much. They avoid eating it because that sensation doesn't make them comfortable. And this is very, very typical. In that case, we'll. What you have to do is throw away that feeder and buy another one with low edges, like these ones that are much wider. And if you're going to ask me, taking advantage of the fact that the Pisaroga river passes through Valladolid about elevated feeders for cats, at the moment, there are no studies that tell me that those are better than the others. There you have it. And something like that in general, for the entire video, regardless of the reason why your cat leaves food in the dish, what you always have to do in these cases is remove it. And if you want to encourage or help your cat want to eat again, give it fresh food straight out of the bag, because food left outside goes rancid. And when a cat says, I'm not eating this, you can do whatever you want, but he's not Going to eat it. I mean, if I leave some cookies out of the package and when I go to eat them, they're mushy, I probably won't like them either. Okay. Think about your cat for a moment. But anyway, with these tips, I hope I've helped you identify why your cat leaves food in his bowl, which is probably the most common. Let me know in the comments why you think your cat is leaving food in his dish. I'm feeling like a poet today. Okay. And if you know of any other tricks that have worked for you, share them with the community so we can all learn. Don't keep anything to yourself. And that's it for today's video. Remember that I have nothing to do with that email account and that only the production team will see it. And today we meet Tiana, who is nine months old and is watching us from Miami with her human, Sebastian. And with Martin and Ada lives this cutie who is so sleepy. His name is Max and he greets us from Mexico City. And here we have Kenna, who is posing in the photo naked as her human, Chari Carrasco tells us. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel. And I'll see you in the next video. No, I don't want anymore that Sebastian is the human and the cat is Tiyana. Because I was going to introduce the cat as if it were Sebastian, I was going to say. And this is Sebastian, who sees us from Miami. Thank goodness. I realized. Hello, I'm Isabelle. We're very happy to be here. I was even going to make a parallel with the crab from the Little Mermaid. I don't know. But not now. But I'm not going to do it now. No or no? I don't want to do it anymore. No, it's boring. Don't laugh. Okay, let's go. No, for you. And now I'm going to tell you an anecdote. Anecdote girl.
