Preguntas y respuestas de un veterinario - 2ª parte. ¿Por qué tu perro come caca?

Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, answers questions about dog behavior and health. He explains why dogs eat feces, a common problem owners face, and covers other pet hygiene and behavioral issues in this Q&A session.
This is a classic one. Is it bad or not to kiss dogs on the mouth? I take care of animals and I think my perception is a bit biased. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. Today we're going to continue with the second part of the Q and A video that we put on the channel a few weeks ago. As we've seen that you liked it a lot, you've encouraged us to continue with all those questions that we left unsaid. Anyway, if you want us to do another one and want to send us a question, you can use our social networks, the links to which are in the description box. Let's continue with the second batch of questions. Jose, pass me your phone. Come on. I want to remind you that I don't know the questions until I read them. So I'm a bit nervous and I don't know what's going to come out of this video. Let's go. The question says, is it advisable to cut a cat's hair? Well, it's neither advisable nor advisable. Obviously you shouldn't cut a short haired cat's hair because it doesn't make any sense. Long haired cats, however, do usually require some type of grooming, especially because their hair is silky and also forms knots. So it's good to trim them from time to time to help the skin get oxygen and keep it a little healthier. It will depend on the breed of your cat and whether you can care for it at home by brushing it daily and preventing tangles from forming. Let's go with another one. My sister constantly kisses her dog on the muzzle. I tell her that she's going to catch something bad because. Because the dog spends all day sniffing and licking the floor. She says no, that it strengthens its immune system. The truth is that I have doubts. Now, is it bad or not to give dogs kisses on the mouth? Let's see. It's hard to say. It's true that everyone has bacteria in their mouths and that people can also catch those bacteria from each other. Just as you don't kiss anyone on the lips except for the people you choose, you shouldn't do it with dogs that aren't yours or that aren't close to your circle because you don't know how cared for that animal is. In my particular case as a veterinarian, I don't go around kissing every dog that comes to my office on the lips, because if I did, that would be absurd. But this dog is hers. Okay, in the case of your sister's dog, it's not that it's bad or not, but it could be more or less hygienic behavior. Well, she's a grown up and can do whatever she wants. But the truth is that I think maybe she should limit it a bit because it's true that, well, her dog also has bacteria in his mouth and can transmit them to her if she's aware of it. It's okay. Let's move on to the next one. I see a lot of black cats on the street near my house. I have a colony of cats that are all black. Is it just my perception or do people not want black cats? Surely, although it may be very difficult for you to understand, there is a lot of superstition among people. It doesn't just happen in the colony near your house, but also in many shelters and animal rights activists who take in stray animals. Most people don't want to adopt black cats simply because of a subjective fact that has much more to do with superstition than with black cats not being affection or not being with their families in the office. I also see many black kittens that are very affectionate and all they need is to find a second chance with a family that loves them without prejudice. Next question. I have two dogs at home and I'm pregnant now. I have a question in my head. Is it good for babies to live with animals? Is it true that it helps them not to have allergies? Living with pets and living beings will help them perceive how humans should treat these animals. Therefore, I am one of those who think that when a baby lives with an animal from an early age, they will later learn to respect them much better. Regarding the allergies you mentioned, allergies develop well because the immune system begins to produce defenses against things that are not aggressive to the immune system and that have to do mainly with environmental and individual factors. But it is true that contact with the animal will probably make their immune system stronger. In any case, your pediatrician should answer this question because they are the ones in charge of caring for children. I am in charge of caring for animals and I think my perception is a bit biased. How do I stop my dog from eating poop and garbage? You have it tough most of the time. What is behind an animal eating another dog's poop is to get the owner's attention. And why do they know that it is getting attention? Because it's over, of course. Because the owner comes to say, you no. Most of the time it is. Okay, the issue of eating garbage is a little different because there may be some type of leftover in the garbage that he might be interested in because it might seem appetizing. Not to me. Of course. If you want to prevent your pet from sniffing garbage or other animals poop, the first thing you should try is to always keep him on a leash when he's not looking. But if you can't prevent him from eating something when he's not paying attention, you could try walking him while listening to behavioral therapy with an ethologist or dog trainer who can help you with this. But as I said, the best thing to do is to be very aware of what your pet is doing at all times. Let's move on to another one. I have a very naughty and playful dog, but he destroys my house, breaks everything, and it drives me a little desperate. I know it's part of his game, but I think I have to scold or punish him in some way so that he understands that what he's doing isn't right. Is there any way I should punish or scold him, my dog, to change his behavior? Well, to begin with, I have to tell you that what we may perceive as a game or as part of his behavior may be linked to other causes, such as separation anxiety. In your case, you are talking about a dog on the channel. We have talked about the causes of separation anxiety in cats, but I can leave a link in the description box to the blog where I wrote a post about separation anxiety in dogs. If the animal has separation anxiety and the animal destroys the house because it misses you, we must tackle the problem in another way and in no case scold or punish it because that will increase its frustration. If the animal simply destroys the house for fun, which is unlikely, you should scold it if you see that it is doing something inappropriate, but only at the moment in which it is doing it, because otherwise the animal will not be able to connect the fact of having destroyed something with you coming to scold it two hours later. I love going for walks, and of course my dog always comes along with me. Sometimes I get the feeling that he gets tired or doesn't feel like walking after we've been walking for a while. How do I know for sure that my dog is tired of walking and wants to go home? Well, when an animal is tired, sometimes it's not because he wants to turn around or because he's cold or whatever. Sometimes when animals refuse to do physical exercise, it's because they have a problem that you haven't noticed. I don't know if your dog is very old, but there are animals that have heart problems and they are usually older dogs that refuse to continue walking because they are simply choking and can't walk anym anymore. Or there are animals that don't want to walk anymore because their legs hurt or because they have a bit of arthritis. You have to take that into account. It's likely that if your pet doesn't want to walk with you, it's because there is some kind of limitation. Because I'm sure that nothing excites your dog more than spending time with you and going to the park. You have to think that if your pet is older, you should take him to the vet to have him checked for any kind of problem. He can't. There is a case where they get tired and that's it.
The normal thing is that they put up with it. It is very unlikely that what will happen to your pet is that they get tired of being outside, because as I said, this is very unusual.
Unless your dog wants to go home to enjoy those famous cookies that we already made in a video, to which I'll leave the link in the description box. Well, let's see another one.
This is a very classic one.
Should I put clothes on my dog in winter to keep him warm or is it not necessary, apart from being an aesthetic issue? Look, it is true that animals have a protective layer that protects them from the cold, which is their fur. But it is also true that if an animal is constantly indoors, it is normal for its internal thermostat, its body temperature to be appropriate to the temperature inside the house, and that when it goes outside it may feel a little cold. I think that when it goes outside, especially if it is cold or raining, you should give it clothes, putting something on top of your pet to prevent it from getting cold. Of course, not all animals suffer the same way from the cold, and not all animals have sufficient mechanisms to combat the cold.
There are animals that are perhaps younger.
Smaller, that have fewer reserves and that can get colder outside. And you should cover those animals a little better.
Let's move on to another one. I've read all about hip dysplasia, but there's one thing I'm not entirely sure about. Is hip dysplasia really curable or not hip dysplasia? Well, with this we finished all the questions we had prepared for the Q and A video. Since it was very long, we had to do it in two parts. And we've also seen that you really liked it. If you want us to answer your questions in videos in the future, either in a monographic video dedicated solely to the question you ask us, or. Or in quick Q and A videos, send them to us on our social networks. We'll leave the links in the description box. The truth is that I found it to be a very nice experience. The truth is that I found it to be a very nice experience because.
As I told you, I didn't know the content of the questions and therefore I had to answer them live. I thank Jose Manuel R. For having prepared the questions and keeping them a little hidden, thus making the experience much more fun for me. He is the executing hand. And that's it. And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with your family and friends, because some of the answers we gave may help them clarify some doubts they may have about their pets. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel and I'll.
See you in the next video.
If you want to send that, don't.
Put it. Okay. I really have some skin problems. It has more to do with superstition than with cats. And it has more to do with superstition than with. You know, to put it like that. When a baby lives with an animal from an early age, it doesn't do anything. What? You mean that he respects it? Learn to respect, okay?
Be very careful, because when a baby lives with an animal from an early age, he will later learn to learn. Friend. No? What do I say and what do I say? Do I thank him or do we give him thanks? What do I say that the answers we have given. Have you seen that anything can be answered?
