¿Qué CANTIDAD EXACTA de comida HÚMEDA + SECA darle a tu gato? ⚖️🐈 ¿Cuánto debe comer?

Carlos, a clinical veterinarian, shows how to calculate the exact amount of dry and wet food your cat needs based on caloric intake. He walks through reading food labels and balancing both types to keep your cat hydrated without overfeeding.
Today on the channel we have math. Grab your calculator, because mine doesn't work anymore. But anyway, I promise you it's going to be fun, really well, and especially interesting for your cat. Hello, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. If you're already a professional catter, you'll know how important it is for your cat to be well hydrated. And if you don't know, it's because you don't watch our videos. And you at least skip the one from two weeks ago, because in it I told you about the importance of giving your cats wet food and dry food. But if you remember, we left one thing pending. What exact amount of dry food should you give your cat if you're also giving it wet food? When you come to the consultation with your cats, I always recommend that you give them at least one serving a day of wet food, soft food or canned food, and you go home very happy and satisfied. But when you go home and have to give your cats their first dose of titration, all these doubts start to pop up. Oh my God. How much should I give them? And do I have to take away some of their normal dry food to give them this little can? The vet hasn't clarified anything for me, so that's why I've come today to resolve all your doubts. This is very important because if we don't take away some of the dry food and we're also giving them one dose of canned food per day, your cat is going to be eating more calories than they need, and that will inevitably make them fat. Therefore, your cat's health is at stake. And that's why it's so important that you watch this video. And it's not clickbait or anything. There are three ways to solve this problem that I've left you with. The first one is to pay attention to the label. There are many cat foods that already state on the label the exact amount in grams per day of dry food that you should give your cat. If you also give them one serving of wet food per day, you will find the part of the label that great unknown where it states the grams per day that correspond to the cat. There are two columns, the first of which is if you do not give them a can. And the second column indicates the exact amount in grams of dry food that you should give your cat per day. If you also give them one of the servings in a can. In that case, the mystery is over. There you go. You can turn off the video now. Don't turn it off, please. But what if your brand of food is not so smart or, well, does not have it so detailed and has not given you that differentiation? How can you do it? In this case? You will have to calculate it yourselves. And that is why I am here to show you how it is done. With this method, we are going to remove the proportional part of the calories that we are giving it with a can of dry food that it is eating during the rest of the day. And it is the most precise method. It is the one that I always recommend to prevent our cat from becoming a pest and coming to eat all day long. Okay. It is very important that you look at the amount of calories that your cat's food provides. To recognize it, look on the label where it says metabolizable energy. Usually it says like this and it will tell you how many calories per kilo of food that food generally has for consumption. In this example that I bring you, the food has 3104k calories per kilo of food. We are going to get other very important information from the label. How much in grams does the cat need per day? For that you go to the dosage table. And in this case, for an average cat weighing 4 kg, it needs 63 grams of food. Well, with this information, we are going to start with the calculations. I am going to get my calculator. That does not work. This does not work. We want to know how many calories per gram of feed the food provides to our cat. To do this, we are going to divide the 3.104 kcalories per kilo of feed by 1000, which is the number of grams in 1 kg. And this gives us 3.14 kcalories per gram of feed. I have the cheat sheet here because I don't remember many things well. And since we give our 4 kg cats 63 grams per day, if we multiply the 3.14 by the 63, it turns out that our cat weighing 4 kg takes in 195 kcalories per day. Well, that's it for now with dry food. Now let's see how many calories the wet food has. The can, in this case, the can of food has 85 grams. And if we look at the label, it has 665kcalories as metabolizable energy for each kilogram of feed. Therefore, we are going to do the same calculation again. How many calories are there per gram? To do this we divide these 665kcalories by 1000. That gives us 0.66 Korea for each gram of wet food. And if we multiply these 0.66 kcalories by 85 grams, which is what the can we are going to give our cat has, the result is. Wait, let me look at the cheat sheet. Okay, 56 kcalories. That is what a can of wet food contains, which is what we are going to give our cat.
What a mess, right?
Well, now it will all make sense. Well, there we have it now, because if we give our cat a can of wet food, we will be giving it 56 kcalories. And that will have to be subtracted from the total amount it had to eat per day. Of the 195kcalories that we calculated at the beginning, we will be left with 139kcalories. And that amount of calories is what we have to give it with the rest of the dry food during the day. And since we already know the amount of calories our dry food has per gram, it's very Simple. We'll divide 139 calories by 3.141, which is the amount of calories dry food has per gram. And in this case, in addition to the can of food, we have to give our cat 44 grams of dry food each day. We're going to distribute this among the feedings we give our cat throughout the day. Well, I think it's easy, right?
Do you think people are going to do this? Well, no. With every minute that goes by in the video, I have less and less faith that anyone will do this. But that's why I'm bringing you the third option to solve this problem, which is to do it a bit by eye. And I want to make it clear, doing it by eye is not an exact method. And it's something I don't recommend under any circumstances if your cat tends to gain weight. Because if your cat gains weight while eating normally, if you do it by eye, it's easier for you to overdo it. But hey, for those who are a bit lazy, we have this third method. In a practical way, if you are going to give your cat a can of wet food, you have to remove 20 grams of the dry food that it is being fed during the rest of the day. And in fact, if you notice, in this case it is fulfilled because from giving 63 grams, we have gone to giving our cat 44 grams, practically 20 grams. And I am realizing here that I am referring to the metabolizable energy on the label and so on. It may be that your cat's food does not have the information on metabolizable energy. Well, in those cases, I recommend that you first go online to the food manufacturer's website to see if that information is available there, or that you write them an email. And that way, well, you will be able to do all these calculations, which I know that in the end no one is going to do. But for me, I will go there so that it does not get stuck. Well, if you're going to do the math, let me know in the comments if this video has motivated you, and you'll see how much dry food your cat needs. If you're combining it with wet food, which you should, which is very important, as I told you in that video, I'll leave it here for you too. How much faith do I have? And that's it for today's video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone. Remember to subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. And also that here on YouTube we have a secondary channel called Questions and Answers from a Veterinarian. Stop by and subscribe too. And before we go, we meet Louise Puck, who lives with Kitty. He says that she was spayed today when he sent us the photo, and that they're eager to see her again. And this mystical and perhaps slightly dangerous pose is from Dracarys, who lives with Marco Ulysses. And we say goodbye with Ruby Castro's little gray girl. Look at her. How pretty. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families channel. And I'll see you in the next video. Oh, it doesn't ring right now. Well, it doesn't even work. That's why I've come today, to answer all your questions, to figure out which attack is more gratuitous. Let's go. And that's between 1,000 kilograms, which is 1 gram. Sure, 1,000 kilograms. That is between 1,000 grams, which is 1 kilogram. We're almost done. Well, everyone is a little different. But those 44 grams are what you have to give your cat. Right, our cat. But anyway, it's crazy. There you have it, if you're interested. But then the cats come to the consultation looking like clumsy idiots. And just like your dietician calculates for you, and you're there with the scale all day, thinking about what you eat, you have to calculate it for your cat.
Alexa, do you know Happy Pets and Families? I'm sorry, that person doesn't ring a bell. I don't know everyone yet.
