¿QUÉ HACER ante un GOLPE DE CALOR en perros?

Heat stroke kills dogs fast. Watch for excessive panting, drooling, and weakness. Cool your dog with water immediately and get to a vet, but never use ice, which can shock their system.
Hello and welcome to this new video from Animal Expert. Today we'll be talking about heat stroke, a very serious health problem that can lead to the death of a dog if it is not treated in a timely and appropriate manner. Below, we'll explain the symptoms and the first aid measures you should apply to your dog. Since they don't have sweat glands all over their bodies, dogs can't regulate their body temperature as efficiently as humans. They eliminate it through panting and sweating on the pads of their paws and other isolated areas of the body, such as their belly. High temperatures, intense physical exercise or belonging to a Molosser type breed can make our dogs suffer from it more easily. The symptoms of heat stroke are excessive panting, a high body temperature above 42, an elevated heart rate, cyanosis, bluish skin and mucous membranes due to lack of oxygen, staggering weakness, muscle tremors and profuse salivation. Heatstroke can have serious consequences for the animal, from the loss of salts and sugars to the possibility of suffering multiple organ failure. In the event that we have a dog affected by heatstroke, it is important to note that we should not lower its temperature abruptly, but rather gradually, as this could cause hypothermia. Ideally, it would be best to take it immediately to a veterinary clinic, but if this is not possible or it takes a long time to get there, we will do the following calmly and without stressing the animal. The first thing to do is take the dog to a cool, shaded place or place it near a fan. We will avoid exposing it to the sun's rays. We will apply cloth soaked in room temperature water, never cold or ice cold, to its head, neck, belly, chest and legs. You should not cover it, just moisten it so that the temperature drops gradually. We can also lightly wet its mouth without forcing it to drink. We will wait until the dog recovers while we monitor its temperature. However, if you notice that your dog is not improving after 10 minutes, call your trusted veterinarian and go to an emergency veterinary hospital. Finally, we will give you some tips to prevent heat stroke. Never leave your dog locked in a car, even if it is in the shade. The temperature can rise up to 10 grams in just 15 minutes. Leave fresh, clean water within reach of your dog 24 hours a day. Furthermore, if you are going away, it is advisable to leave several drinking fountains available to him. Avoid physical exercise and walks during the hottest hours of the day. Try to walk him during the coolest hours of the day. When he is in the garden, make sure he has a shady place to rest if your dog has long hair, you can go to a dog groomer to give him a summer trim, although it is also advisable to brush him daily to remove dead hair.
