¿Qué hacer si me ENCUENTRO un ANIMAL PERDIDO o ABANDONADO? 🐶🐱 (Protocolo de recogida)

This is a YouTube video titled "¿Qué hacer si me ENCUENTRO un ANIMAL PERDIDO o ABANDONADO? 🐶🐱 (Protocolo de recogida)" created on December 6, 2021. The content is a detailed monologue by a representative from the Mataro Animal Protection Society (Spam) explaining the proper protocol for handling lost or abandoned pets, including the role of local police, the importance of not moving found animals far from their location, and special care instructions for newborn kittens. The video aims to educate the public on animal rescue procedures and promote responsible actions when encountering stray animals.
Foreign I'm Rousay. I work for spam, the animal protection society of Mataro. And I want to explain what we do and how it should actually be done when a pet is found on the street or lost the shelters. In this case, I'm speaking for ourselves. The Mataro shelter, the Mataro Animal Protection Society, also known as Spam, provides services to nearby municipalities. So these municipalities have an agreement with the city councils so that we can collect lost animals, animals that are lost in these municipalities. Okay, so what is the system that should be used to collect these animals if a citizen finds them? The protocol is to always notify the police, the police of the municipality where the animals are located. So once the police are informed that there is an abandoned animal in their jurisdiction, they notify us if we are responsible for collecting and reclaiming the animals in this municipality from here. Once the person who collects the animals from our association, a worker from our association, has been notified, a whole mechanism is put into operation to try to return this animal that we believe in principle, is lost, not abandoned. We always think about the good deeds of people. Then, if it is abandoned, we will have other more difficult procedures to carry out to try to find the owner. Animals that are found lost on the street or on highways or roads. The interesting thing is that the person who finds them, who surely does so with all the love and interest in the world to be able to save that animal. The important thing is that they do not stray too far from the place where they were found. Why? What happens? Well, normally, let's give an example. A person who comes from Barcelona and finds a dog in Mongat, or, okay, and takes it to Girona, which is where it goes, it is much more difficult for the owner, if they have lost it, to go look for it in Girona, because normally, if they know that there is a shelter nearby, they will understand that their dog has been found and has been deposited with the shelter. Okay, so what happens? What happens is that many people do it with very good intentions, because I am from this municipality where there is a very good shelter, and I am going to take it there. But they are taking it from its place of origin, which makes it very difficult to search for it later, unless, obviously, it has a chip, and then it tells us where we have to go to look for the owner. But if it does not have a chip, which is the vast majority, unfortunately, many who do not have one, even though it is mandatory to have it, well, this causes a problem that ultimately affects the animal. In short, if an animal is Found, it should not be moved away from the area where it was found, but rather the shelter or the municipal police who will take care of it, but never, because it is not good for the animal, even though many people think it is, to take it out of the area where it was found. In theory. Why do we notify the police? Why can't we bring dogs and cats directly to the shelter? All pets? Why can't we do this? Well, the explanation is very simple. In other words, shelters have a scope, a field of action. Why? Why do we have this scope of action? Well, because we cannot absorb, although we would like to, the number of animals that are lost or abandoned. If everyone took their dogs to the doors of a shelter on their own, there would be shelters that would be overwhelmed. And others, on the other hand, are companies that are dedicated to collecting animals that would be practically empty. So we can't just absorb this. That's why the collection and notification must be made through the police of the municipality where the shelter manages the collection. In other words, if I work, that is, the shelter works for a municipality, then it will be this municipality that will give us the order to collect the animals that are loose, abandoned, lost or whatever in the municipality. Okay, this is in terms of dogs and cats. But now that it's the season, we can take advantage of the opportunity to talk about how we find very young cats now, which is the season. Now, as everyone knows, the season for kittens to be born starts in spring, around April. They start and end up getting longer and longer. We could say that it's until November or December for some absent minded person. But anyway, more or less around this time, what happens? Oh, most of these kittens are not born at home, but on the street. So it's very easy and very, and we see it all the time that people bring us kittens or they notify the police to go and pick up some kittens. Well, there are kittens that we can say are two months old or older. And yes, they really can go to the shelter because they are almost ready for adoption. They can eat on their own, they can develop a more independent life. But what happens with these animals? Some have small kittens, umbilical cord, they are newborns, they are less than a month old. They can't be fed solid food, they need a bottle, they need to be cared for like a baby. The ideal thing about this is that people feel very, very sorry for them. They feel very embarrassed, they feel very emotional, they need a lot of tenderness. But they do these animals a great Favor if they take them and take them away. Even if they think or may believe that these kittens are separated from their mother or are abandoned. The mother has probably gone in search of food to sustain herself. Possibly she got scared because she saw people approaching. Possibly she went for a walk. The most likely scenario is that she went to look for food and the cat comes back. Okay, what happens if we imagine that these cats are alone and abandoned, which is not usually the case? Well, we take them and they are very small cats. They are cats that need their mother like everything else, like every animal that needs its mother, every mammal needs its mother to feed it. What happens to us? Well, litters of small kittens arrive at shelters and sometimes it is very impossible for us to care for them all. We have a good network of caregivers. They are nannies who help us as volunteers and with a. I mean, with a very positive attitude to try to save the cats who have to get up every three hours, who have to give bottles every three hours. There are people very involved in this and they try to save these puppies that they have said have been found, but that the mother was surely not far from there. What happens? Obviously, they feed them with commercial milk, with milk prepared for these types of animals and these ages. So no matter how much they say it is similar, commercially manufactured milk can never be similar. It is similar, but never the same as a cat's mother's mill. Normally, if we take puppies during the year, let's put them in 200 very young cats that need a bottle, we may not save them all. Some percentage, some are getting smaller because people have more practice in being babysitters and people have more knowledge that we can save them. But there is a percentage that is lost along the way. Surely this percentage that is lost along the way, if it had been fed by the cat, perhaps the percentage would have been even smaller. It doesn't mean that the cat can feed and save all the kittens that are born. There aren't always some that fall by the wayside, but there are always fewer of them that our nannies can't keep. Unfortunately, they can't save their lives and help them grow up so that later, when they are old enough for adopters to eat on their own and can eat some solid food, they can adopt them and finish raising them so that they can become happy adult cats in their adoptive homes. This is also a warning to all the people who find kittens on the street before deciding to take them and take them away or notify the Police so they can pick them up. They should take into account or do some tests to see if the cat really returns to the place where she has her kittens. Sure, yes. Sometimes it could happen that while looking for food, while looking for, well, I don't know, for a walk, that cat gets run over. She gets run over and these kittens are truly helpless. Then it is time to take them and take them to a shelter so that they can try to save as many members of this litter as possible. But leaving aside that percentage of animals that unfortunately are female cats and die or cannot return for whatever reason to pick up their kittens, it is important to know, try to see, wait, see if the cat returns and respect them. And once these cats, the female cat, with all her love and maternal instinct, feeds these kittens and they start growing, then it will be time to pick these cats up. Because the female cat will abandon them when they are old enough to fend for themselves. Yes, it is time to pick up these kittens, to give them up for adoption. But for now, the best babysitter, the best way to feed them is to leave them with their mother. And now that it is the time for kitten litters, I think it is important to make this point so that people take it into account. And to conclude, above all, I would like to make a reminder, a brief reminder. Whenever you find an animal, a dog or a cat, you must call the local police of the municipality where it was found. Never take it out of there, because then it is very difficult to find its owner. And the same goes for cats as for small cats, that is litters of kittens. Above all, be patient. Try to find out if the cat is nearby, if the cat has gone to look for food and do not try to touch them. And if after a while you see or have been able to verify that the cat has had some mishap and you know that she won't return, then yes, act as has been said, call the police of the municipality where she was found. Well, I hope you liked it. And if you want more information about everything we do and all the problems we also have, which there are, you can access our website, which is www.corchantamitaro.org. there you will find all the information in case you want to make donations, if you want to participate, and if you want to help us so that they can try to save as many members of this litter as possible.
