Natalia, a dog trainer at CAC Barcelona, explains what to do when your dog attacks another dog. Don't punish it right away. Let it calm down first, then get professional help if fights keep happening.
Hi, I'm Natalia, the dog trainer at the CAC in Barcelona. And this is Dulza, a two year old dog who has only recently joined the cc. I'm going to talk to you about what to do and what not to do when a dog gets into a fight. Our dog fights with another dog. First of all, since we don't know why our dog bit another dog, we shouldn't punish it. Okay? Putting the dog on its back or tying it up, punishing it, scolding it, because we don't know if there's a fear factor behind the aggression, and fear is not usually punished. What we should do is immediately leave the situation where the dog found itself in the fight, take it home and let it calm down. In fact, if we can take a walk before returning home, let the dog smell it so that it relaxes a little. And we don't try to put it together with other dogs for the next few days, because after a fight, the dog has stress in its blood. So the recommendation is, if our dog has had a fight and usually gets into fights or doesn't get along with other dogs, go to a professional who can guide us to correct the situation. Thank you.
