If you're about to scold your cat, don't do it, because I can tell you right now that it won't work. Yelling, scolding, or raising your voice will only make your cat stressed, scared, and distrustful of you. What does work is teaching them in a respectful way. If your cat is scratching at a door, nibbling on a plant or something they shouldn't be doing, try diverting their attention with a stick or a toy that they love. You'll get them out of that loop and they'll forget what they were doing. Ignore them if they insistently try to get your attention. For example, if they wake you up at night to ask for food or to play with you, ignore them. I assure you that they'll learn that this strategy doesn't work and they'll stop doing it.
