TODO lo que HE GASTADO en MI GATO el primer año 🐱💸 | ¿Lo volvería a comprar?

Carlos, a veterinarian, breaks down every peso he spent on his cat Alcatofo during the first year, from food and vet care to toys and accessories. He weighs whether each expense was worth it and whether he'd do it again.
Foreign. Since we've been living with Alcatofo for a year now, it's time to do the math. So today I'm going to tell you how much I've spent on him, including all the things he needs. His litter box, his food, his bed and everything else. And in addition to many of these products, I'll tell you if I'm satisfied and if I would buy them again or not. How much do you think I've spent? Leave me a comment and see if you guess right. Hi, I'm Carlos and I'm a veterinarian and this is Oukachofo. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families channel. Alcatofo. The time has come to find out if you're worth it or not. Because during this last year we've had to buy a lot of things. Of course I'd come home and we didn't have anything for cats at home. So we've been reviewing what we've been spending our money on. And that's why I've decided to make this video for you. Lets get this started. It doesn't mean that you have to buy what I bought for the cat, or that you have to invest the same money that I've invested in everything for the cat. But I don't know, I feel like telling you something personal about us, about our coexistence, and that there's more to personal than economic relationships. But anyway, seriously, let's go over all the products we've been using this year, because you might be interested in some of them, or you might not know they exist, or you might be thinking about adopting a cat right now and you don't know where to start. So remember that this video is very useful to you. And since the algorithm has punished them, banished them and left them in misery, we can talk about whatever we want. Because we already know that no one is going to watch this video. Please. And I'm going to ask you for one very important thing. Share this video, comment on it, like it, give it lots of love, and well, tell everyone about us, because right now we're going through a really bad time with the YouTube algorithm. It's ruining all our videos. We need your help and collaboration so we can continue making videos and for the channel to survive. Well, let's start at the beginning, when the puppy was about to arrive. I already told you how I was preparing the house for his arrival. And I more or less broke down what we bought at the beginning. In total, we made quite a large purchase of €220.65. That purchase included a wide variety of things such as the litter box or also, well, his first litter, his first food that we started giving him when he arrived home, feeders, drinkers, mats, so he wouldn't stain the floor. Well, as you can see, these are a lot of basic things that a cat needs when it arrives home. Of that purchase, the only thing we still use, well, logically, the food and litter are used up, but it's the mat to put under the feeders so that the floor doesn't get dirty. Also, the feeders, which lately we've actually been using as a water bowl, they're made of ceramic. I really like those two products. It's true that with the mat being silicone and dishwasher safe and all that, we had a little problem with the automatic vacuum cleaner, which is that it takes away the feeders and all the things. So in the end it ends up making a mess. So we had to find an alternative solution that I'm going to tell you about now. But overall, these are products that I liked. The feeders are made of ceramic and, well, the truth is that they are quite good for any cat. But after the cat arrived home, we realized that he had a small problem, which is acne. Right? So since he is a cat prone to developing acne and his chin area getting a bit dirty, we needed or chose to give him plates with very low edges because that helps a lot with the acne problem. So although it is true that we continue to use one of the feeders as a drinker, we no longer use the other to give him food. In that first purchase, there were some things that I would not buy again. And one of them was the brush. Well, that brush that we bought at the beginning to comb and remove some of the excess hair from the cat. It is true that it was very cheap. We saw it in the store, we thought it was quite good because, well, it seems sturdy. But it is also true that it has a small drawback, which is that it is a bit difficult to clean. There are other brushes that clean much better, as I've been telling you throughout this year. And although it's something that is quite durable and can withstand a cat's lifetime, it doesn't seem like the best product to me. But hey, it's a good purchase. The thing is that there are many types and later I'll tell you a little bit about the ones we've bought throughout this year so that you also know that, well, you have different options and you have to choose the one that best suits you and your cat. Another thing that I'm very happy to have bought is the scratching post. The scratching post is made of cardboard, and cats really like cardboard. And it also has two parts, one vertical and one horizontal. Since we didn't know how the cat liked to mark, that's why we chose one that was more versatile. In the end, it turns out that he usually likes to mark horizontally. And, well, the bottom part of the scratching post gets a lot of use. It's possible that we'll have to change it over the next year, but it still seems like a very good purchase to me. Since this scratching post is a drawback. Well, I would say to the hey, maybe I don't need to buy a whole scratching post. Why don't you just buy the parts that wear out so I don't have to make the whole investment again or generate so much waste? Well, I would like that to be an alternative, but I'm telling you that no, you have to buy it whole. I've been doing some research, and they don't sell you the cardboard separately in that first purchase. There were also other things that, well, he has continued to use, which are the springs, his favorite toys. Well, sometimes I play with them a little more, sometimes he forgets about them a little more. But in general, they still work. And there are other toys that, although we also buy them lately, they don't pay much attention to them anymore. But, well, this usually happens with cats. I'm referring to the rods. Lately, the cat almost prefers to chase a cable than to go hunting for a rod. But. But, oh, well, in any case, at first he used them, he had fun. And I don't regret having bought them because they weren't that expensive. And it's also great to have a variety of toys because, well, at that time we didn't know what the cat would prefer. And you can also alternate them so he doesn't get bored. Things that I don't use anymore. Well, we bought him a temporary litter box that was an uncovered tray for the same reason, because we didn't know how the cat would prefer to do his business. And also because the litter box that I had in mind would take a little longer to arrive. So I needed an alternative. In this case, if you, for example, don't have one, you can temporarily use a tray or a fairly large cardboard box and it will do the same job. And you don't have to spend money right now, I think, and I don't think I would have spent the money on that another thing we bought that first time was synthetic feline facial pheromones in a diffuser. Well, it's something useful, necessary, in my opinion, for the cat's first adaptation inside the house. It's something we no longer buy because the cat is perfectly adapted, but it helped us at that time. So it's something I would buy again. Well, but we'll continue with the cat accessories. In addition to everything I've been telling you, we've also been buying blankets, which are normal and common, but we wanted to give him some specifically for him. If you have any at home, you don't need to buy them. And also some items that I consider important, such as nail clippers. You don't need to cut your cat's nails strictly every week, as you do with yourself, but only trim the tip a little when you see that it gets caught, perhaps on the blanket or on the sofa or on its bed, when you see that this could be somewhat dangerous for them. But of course, you can't do that with household scissors or human nail clippers. It has to be a specific nail clipper so that the cut is cleaner and the nail doesn't splinter. On blankets, we spent around €20. The nail clippers weren't even €6. It was €5.94. I think a very good investment because it's something I'm only going to buy once. Then in the first week that Alcatoxo was practically at home, we bought the definitive litter box. Well, we got the definitive litter box that cost around €25. 24, 99. As you know, Alcatofo uses a vertical or top access litter box. Well, it's a type of litter box that is neither covered nor uncovered, because although it is covered on top, it is practically open. That is, it doesn't have a door and it's a pretty clean litter box. I mean, even though the cat covers its things, it barely spills anything by covering its poop, because some cats are a real mess. I'll also tell you that this isn't the best option if you're going to adopt an older cat because, well, they might have a little trouble getting in. But the cat was an adult, but he's still at an age where he can make those little jumps. And also I would buy that litter box again because I'm quite satisfied. We bought a mat that goes under the litter box so that even if he takes something out with his paws, he doesn't spread it all over the house. That mat cost us $13.99. And I have to say that I wouldn't buy it again. Well, I wouldn't buy the one I bought again because it turned out to be very small and it's practically only on one side of the litter box, which could mean that the cat jumps somewhere else and takes something out with its little paws. If you buy it, I recommend that it be as big as possible so that you can put the whole litter box on top. In any case, I haven't bought a different one because, well, I have that one and it's doing the trick. In the first few weeks, Alcatchofo was a little attached to us. Well, as you know, he had hyperattachment, right? Which is a condition in which the cat doesn't know how to do anything alone. So we had to make a decision that was a bit difficult for us, which was to sleep separately from him so that all the negative aspects of hyper attachment wouldn't be reinforced. What happened? Alcatofo learned to open the doors very quickly. So we had to opt for a solution that was, well, a bit quick, which was to put an anti baby device on the doors so that Alcato couldn't open them. That anti baby cost me 9.99 and I have to tell you that it fulfilled its function very well and that I am very satisfied. It is true that we no longer use it. The baby sleeps in the room with us on his blanket. But at that time it was a very good purchase. And also at that time, at the beginning, we bought the scratching post. It is true that here I went a bit overboard with the budget. I basically bought the one that I thought fulfilled the function best, that was going to be more suitable for the baby and so on. So, well, it cost us. I have it written down 144.80. The price is quite high. It is true that it is made entirely of wood and that it has quite positive qualities, such as that it is not covered in fabric, therefore it does not trap mites and so on. Yosh is a little allergic to dust, so we were not interested. And well, that is made of pine wood, which is quite good. But it is true that, man, the price is a bit high. In any case, I'm quite satisfied, not 100%, but he uses the cat. It has different platforms. He rests well quite often on the top and uses the middle platform to look out the window. In other words, it's quite useful. For the most part, he hardly uses the box at all, although the springs are in there and he takes them out whenever he feels like it. And what he doesn't use at all is the basket, because I think it's a bit small for him. But that's not the reason why I'm not 100% satisfied. It's because as it's a very, very tall tree, it's not very stable. Cats tend to like where they climb to be stable, where nothing moves, because otherwise they might get scared. So at first I was a bit afraid that the cat wouldn't use it because it moved a bit. So he had to put it right next to the living room furniture so that it would gain this ability and not move. In any case, I have to tell you that even if the tree moves a little, he continues to use the cat. And that's where we've been lucky. But it could be that he doesn't use it and we would have made a foolish investment. So today, of course, with hindsight, if I had to buy it again, I wouldn't buy this one. I would buy one with more stability. But it's also true that you don't know until you get it home and put it together so well. I don't really know how I would manage that. Another very important element to cat proof the environment for the cat was some wood that we put on top of the radiators. These have a dual function to keep the cat's legs from getting caught in the radiators and also to provide extra surfaces for him to walk on. We bought two custom made pine boards for 57.888 brackets to place them on the radiators. 35.16 in total. I'm super happy and of course I would buy it again. A few more things we bought during this first year with the artichoke, well, something very important was the window nets. We wanted the artichoke to have access to the outside, but always under control and so that it couldn't fall out of the window. These nets have a great advantage, which is that you don't need to make holes or do any work or anything to put them up right. And the truth is that I'm very happy this year. They're perfect. Like the first day, they hold up perfectly. The artichoke isn't a very climbing cat, but even if it wanted to climb them, it would still hold up. So I would buy them again. These nets cost me €49. Many people ask me about them and I ordered them on Amazon. They're from a German company, they send them directly from Germany and they're really good. Since I know you're going to ask me a lot of things, a lot of products and so on. I'm going to leave some links below. Although we do not collaborate with brands, this is not a sponsored or paid video or anything like that. But since I know that a lot of messages and questions will arrive, well, you should know that all the information is down there. Oh, and another thing. Since the cat looks out the window and the sun shines through the window for the summer, we bought a specific cream for cats. Well, it may seem silly to you, but it really is not. Especially for cats that have a very white coat. Okay, the cat does not have a completely white coat, but his nose is very unprotected. So we simply put a small amount on him. Very little is used, and well, that way he is protected. We only use it in the summer when it is very hot and the sun is very strong. The same way we protect ourselves. And it cost us exactly 13.09. In this case, it does have to be a specific product for cats because we know that it is suitable for them. Throughout the year. We bought him two cat grass kits for $4.38, $2.19 each. The cat loves it, and of course we will buy it again when needed. But then we have the catnip, which we also bought for $3.55. I would not buy this plant again because the cat completely ignores it. Another plant, so to speak, that we bought for the cat are the Matabe sticks, which we give him from time to time so that he has a fun time. There are a lot of them in the package and we have not had to buy any more, but we will definitely do so again when needed. It cost $2.79. How did I save a little money? And I recommend that you, well, resort to this if you are adopting a cat. Well, in the carrier. Well, that you resort to asking your family or acquaintances if they have anything that you can reuse or take advantage of. Hey, a coworker told me she had a carrier she didn't use and asked if I wanted one. I said, great, and it's the carrier we use with the artichoke. I'm very happy with it. It also usually causes a sensation among people who see it because they think it's pretty. But as I said, I didn't buy that one. Well, there are other things we've invested in this year with the artichoke. We've been trying out different types of combs and such. So at that time we bought a rubber glove because I've heard good things about it. That glove cost us $5.70 and it's actually pretty decent. We also bought a fulminator. Well, a brush. Well, a phenader type will do too. In this case, it was from that brand, and that one was a little more expensive. I have it here, $29.99. The thing is that you're also paying a little for the brand. It works very well, but it's not a brush for frequent use, just for removing excess hair. And we also bought the definitive artichoke comb, the one we currently use, which is a comb that I call self cleaning because it has a platform that pushes the hair out. That comb, honestly is very, very happy and very easy to clean. This brush cost €7.99. And the only downside I have is that the part with the prongs is very large. So handling a cat might be a little complicated, but there is another brush that the cat loves and that also has a dual purpose. It can refresh it and remove a little hair. It also removes a lot of hair. Really. It is this steam brush that you can see in videos online. That one cost us €2.87 at Temu. You can find it at a lot of prices in online stores because it depends a lot on the offers. But in any case, I am very happy and it is something that I do not regret buying at all. Anyway, regarding the brushes, if you want to see an in depth review and find out what each one is used for and which one works best, we made a video here on the specific channel. I'll leave a link to it below. Take a look so I can guide you much better. And so, in general, these are more or less the things we've bought. Well, regarding the artichoke environment, there have been some more toys that we've bought, like sprains, other things like that, to give a little rotation to the toys that cost us like 13.99. Okay. But hey, this is just to give it a little more variety. And there are also a couple of things that have helped us a little with the artichoke. I told you before that we had a problem with the automatic vacuum cleaner and the feeders. Well, we solved it with an IKEA cutting board that has little legs. And so now the artichoke is on a very cute little table, by the way. That way the vacuum cleaner sees it and doesn't blow it away. That little table, that cutting board cost us $12.99. It's made of bamboo, and the only Thing I've done to make it a little more durable is varnish it. On the other hand, we also saw a cat tunnel at Ikea that we really like. The cat also uses it a lot, and it cost us $6.99. I don't regret buying either of those things. And the tunnel, for example, is very practical because we don't have it up all day. So you can fold it up, store it in a closet, and when you want to use it for your cat to have fun, you take it out and that's it. But there's been one thing this whole year that's given me, well, a few headaches, which is the type of litter I put in the cat litter box. And you might say, if it's simple, I mean, it's anything the cat can poop in. Well, for me, it's not so much because I always wanted to have specific characteristics, which are that it's biodegradable, that it can be thrown away in the trash, and that logically, it doesn't have any compounds that could be toxic. So I started looking. I've tried a lot of litters, like corn litter, paper litter, wood pellets, tofu pellets, a lot of things. And if you want to know a little bit about what my impression is of all of them, I've also done a review on the channel. Go ahead and take a look so you know which one to choose. In any case, I didn't tell you about the one we ended up choosing in that video because right after making the video, we found the one we're currently using. And for me, it's the definitive one, which is clumping wood pellets. They work great. They can be thrown down the drain. The cat's paws don't get in the way. They practically don't smell at all, especially when the cat uses them. And in fact, when you open the bag, it smells like wood. Well, it smells like a forest. I mean, it's quite pleasant. They also don't have artificial aromas, glues, or anything, because the pellets are simply made by extrusion. So for me, it's the ultimate litter, and it's the one I'm using at the moment. The brand I'm using, although there may be many others, is Cat Bests, which, well, is just like any other. There are people who, for example, use pellets that can be burned in stoves and such. In those cases, I do recommend that you make sure that they don't have any type of toxic compound. Or component, because sometimes pine resin can be toxic to cats. So. Well, if you do it, please be smart and look carefully at what it's made of. And since there's a lot of litter, I'll tell you what I've spent in total on litter this year, which was €179.81. And in this case, I do have some advice for saving money. Although in most cases we buy from more or less local stores, in the case of litter, we don't do that because it's a recurring purchase of something that weighs a lot. So we've subscribed to one of those websites for cat products and such, so that they can periodically bring it to our house. That way it's always a little cheaper and you don't have to carry it up and down to your house every month. There's another thing that Alcatofo has had this year that's almost a premium service, which is a visit from a cat litter keeper in this case. Again, if you know people who can stop by your house when you're not there and you need them to take a look at your cat, all the better. In our case, we have no other choice, so we have to resort to it, which honestly does a great job. In total, I've spent €300 on the caterer throughout the year, on all the holidays and all the time we haven't been home. €244 exactly. But it's money that doesn't bother me, because it's something our cat needs. If we're not home, they have to come and check on him once a day, once every 24 hours, to check that everything is okay, give him his food, clean his litter box, and see if, for example, he's had any kind of problem or inconvenience during that time. Okay, so it's completely necessary money. And related to this, we've also made another small investment for the times when we're not home, which is a camera. The camera helps us know that the cat is okay when the caterer isn't there. A camera that we actually found quite cheap. I have the price here. 24.99, super easy to use, very convenient. You can check it on your phone and I'm really happy with it. We bought it on Amazon and it's a brand emo. But hey, there are lots of others. If you find one on sale, go for it. Now let's move on to something else that's probably catching your eye and is also something we spend a lot of money on. Which is food. In this case, we've spent money on dry food, feed, care, kibble cans, which we always give him half a can a day. And also treats are treats, which are always good to have at home because, well, you can reward your cat. That way you can organize and store food for him. Oh, and here we also include the seaweed to clean the cat's teeth that we give him with his wet food. In all this time we've bought two cans and of course we'll buy it again when it runs out. They cost €21.98, €10.99 each. All of that has cost us almost a third of the total. This year it's been €571.66. And in this case it's going to be good, very variable, because it's going to depend on a lot of things, on the brand of food, on whether, where you buy it, they have an offer. In short, it's going to depend on many things. Ok, but it's what we spent in this case. I have to tell you that from my point of view, where we really have to invest money are in the things that our cat consumes and eats. Man, always within your means and always make sure it has the best possible composition. Unless, as always, well, I'm a little obliged to tell you your cat has a specific dietary need because it has a kidney problem, because it's allergic or whatever. In that case, you'll always have to follow your vet's instructions, because that diet is part of its medicine, its normal treatment. Let's go. Ok, going back to the kocihofo, that's what we've spent, what we'll probably continue spending, more or less up or down, because we're happy with the brand, with the composition, with how it suits him. So for the moment, I'm not considering any changes regarding his food. Another very important purchase we made for the Kocihofo was his feeding pellet. It cost 5.99 and I'm super happy with it, although it requires a little training. The Kociofo understood it from the first moment and has a good time playing with it while he feeds. Plus it's his favorite feeder while we're sleeping, so if it breaks, I'd definitely buy it again, although these things last a very long time and I hope I don't have to. And I'm missing one thing that you're probably saying right now, Carlos, didn't you say how much you spent on the vet? Okay, of course. Okay. Since you're a Vet, you don't spend anything on it. No, no, wait, wait. During the year the Kociofo has been with us, we were very lucky to start with. Well, he already came from a previous veterinary consultation. He was sterilized, he had his vaccinations, he had his tests done. Why? Well, because we adopted him from a shelter. We didn't buy him, which if you buy well, that's often your responsibility later. In this case, we've saved all that during this year. Basically what we've been doing is continuing with his deworming, which in Alcachafo's case with the product we use is applied every three months and what we've spent has been €119.85. Other veterinary expenses we've had have been the specific pet wipes to dry clean some areas where he gets dirty, or also to treat a little bit of feline acne. They were €9.80. And yes, we will buy them again, although it's true that we used very little. And we also bought a specific ear cleaner for pets because I noticed that Alcachafo's ears were a bit dirty. It cost €17.40, although one bottle lasts a long time. And what we haven't done yet at the time of recording this video, but will do when it's done, because it's not even a year old yet, is to re vaccinate him for the rabies vaccine. In that case, it will cost around €40 at the time of the first vaccination. So he'll take the opportunity to do his first check up to make sure everything is okay, that there are no problems and all that. Fortunately, he hasn't been sick this year, so we haven't had to spend any more money. But you always have to have a little bit saved for these things because illnesses don't give you notice and you never know when you're going to have to resort to it. In this case, we're saving up a little money in a piggy bank where we put in around €50 every month, not counting what we spend on food, litter and everything else. In other words, that's it. So in total, the Vets have paid €187.05. Okay, and now comes the total figure. How much have we spent this year on artichoke? Well, in total, considering that we made the initial investments, it was €1811.50. Obviously next year, or this year, 2025, it will be a little less because we will no longer have to buy the tree and all those things at the beginning. But anyway, it is an investment that we have to make where, as you can see, everything comes together. The cat's emotional health, with its cat friendly environment suitable for it, so that it can develop perfectly its diet and its physical health too, with everything that has to do with disease prevention and all those things. In any case, this is what we have spent. I don't know if it seems a lot or a little to you, you can leave me a comment, or if you would be able to do it for less money. But hey, we've been spending a bit of what we've seen and we're not examples of anything either. I mean, we're just a family with a cat, uh, where we've been choosing small investments because we thought it was the best for him. But be that as it may, all this seems like very little money to me. Just think about what I'm telling you. For all the love and affection that the cat gives me every day. Well, at first he also gave me insomnia because he would wake me up every night. But hey, everything is forgotten. What do you think about the cat? We've spent a lot or a little money, okay? It doesn't matter to him. If you liked the video, you can give me a like. And remember to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. If you really want to support us, you can give us a super thank you and visit the secondary channel we have here on YouTube called Queen. Questions and answers from a veterinarian. I'm sure you'll be interested. Don't leave yet, because we're going to meet some very cute kittens. These three little ones greet us from Montevideo. Their names are Turbo, Morgana and Merlina and they live there with their partner Angelina. We jump across the pond to get to Lisbon. From there Toby greets us and he lives with his human companions, Lucila and Xavier. And finally we go back to America. From there, Gus greets us, who lives in Colombia, in Bogota, with his human companion, Natalia. Thank you very much for following the channel. Happy pets and families and sleeping artichokes. And we'll see you next week. Say it's disgusting. Say it's disgusting. My carpet kitty has cost us a lot of money. How much do you think a cat costs a year? No, no, let me innovate. Dolly innovated the cat. You innovate, uh, A fart. Uh, but where do you come from if you come full of things? But it smells terrible and I have it on top of me. And this is a skunk. Since I don't care everything. And today I'm going to talk to you about brands. You're going to mention the brands. Do you want me to say it? Do you want me to say it? Or else I'll say it. But anyway, going back to the cash, what do you want me to say? I won't say the brand. It's not necessary. Right. Uh, well, one that's with salmon and chicken, I think. Right. What's it like? Salmon and chicken? Yes, yes. More or less frequently. No, no. Okay. No. Okay. And if you think you can do it, I've told you, and if you want to, you think you can do it for less money, leave me a comment. I mean, I've repeated it several times that I think there might be some for less money. That's it. And then the offended ones appear. Oh, it seems like they say that spending a lot of money on cats. I don't know what. Well, look, I'm not going to tell you. I'm not going to tell you what I think of the offended ones. Okay. And if they have an opinion and a little controversy and gossip comes out here. We're in a state of turmoil because of the gossip. No, no, I judge, but I don't listen.
