TODO lo que necesitas saber sobre TORTUGAS 🐢 | Q&A KIWOKO

This is a YouTube video titled "TODO lo que necesitas saber sobre TORTUGAS 🐢 | Q&A KIWOKO" created in June 2025. It features a single speaker answering frequently asked questions about the care and maintenance of aquatic turtles, covering topics such as feeding, water conditioning, substrate, decorations, legal purchase regulations in Spain, and hygiene precautions. The content is educational and aimed at turtle owners or enthusiasts.
Foreign Today we have questions about the many comments you've left me on the many videos we have on the care and maintenance of aquatic turtles. Here I bring you an excerpt of five interesting questions that you've left me in the comments. If you have any other questions, remember that you can always leave them through this chat or in any of the comments of the many videos we have. Well, as you can see, I no longer have the turtles in the room. I used to have them in a format that was inside a room. They have grown and at the time I had to give them to a good friend who has them in an outdoor pond. This year they have hibernated. They are perfect. But I wanted to make this mention to remember that these are animals that live for many years and that depending on how you keep them, you can have them both inside the house or outside the house. If you are going to keep them outside the house, that this adaptation process takes place throughout the spring, summer and fall so that they can generate some fat and be able to live without any problems. Okay, without further ado, let's get to the first question. Well, Jose Mac, you asked me if you could feed your aquatic turtle with Plan Orbis snails. I advise against it because it is true that in nature these animals can feed on snails. I do not rule it out, but if you have them indoors, it is better not to. In the end, snails, depending on the stage your turtle is in, can be somewhat hard and fragments can get stuck in the stomach and could cause some problems. What I do recommend to everyone is to use a good food. Depending on the stage it is in for the turtle, a complete food, possibly a stick or a pellet, is fine. Make sure they are high in protein, that they also have some green matter, because remember that these animals are omnivores and as a complement you can use some of these shrimp called gammaris. It is also true that from time to time you can give them a piece of fresh shrimp or a piece of fish. If you see that they don't eat it, remove it from the terrarium so that the water doesn't smell and the water in your turtle tank doesn't spoil. And if you want to use live food at any time, you can use mealworms. If it's a baby turtle, you can also use crickets. Mind you, I'll repeat it once again. If you give it to them, they eat it and you try another one. If you see that they're satisfied, stop feeding them. And it's important to remove any leftovers from the Water. Let's move on to the second question. Well, Life of Toys asks why the water turns green when using a certain brand of conditioner. This is not normal. So here I would say that it's a good idea to change the conditioner. Why are water conditioners good for turtles? For multiple reasons. One of them is, for example, when they're very young, they help reduce possible eye infection problems. But also pay attention to this. The water conditioner helps to prevent the loss of many of the bacteria that cause the water in your turtle tank to not smell bad or become cloudy. That's why it's important to use conditioners. I'm also speaking in general terms here. Ideally, you should use a specific conditioner. For example, there are specific conditioners for aquatic turtles. Yes, there are. Sometimes you go to a store and they don't have them and you have to use the one for fish. Would that be a problem? Well, no, nothing would be a problem. But I recommend that you always use the specific ones. Many of them already have aloe vera, which I repeat helps the eye area. And let's move on to the third question. Rodrigo asked me what type of substrate I used for the water or turtle tank and how much I used here. Rodrigo, let me explain something to you. Ideally, you should make a layer I usually like to use between 1 and 3 centimeters, a layer that covers the entire bottom of the turtle tank. Interesting. Here, products that are inert. Sand, that is inert, gravel, that is inert. But this is important why? Because if the conditions cannot rise, the physical and chemical conditions of the water can be altered, which in the end would clog the turtle tank and could basically make your turtle sick. So I insist a thin layer of 1-3 cm spread. Well, these are animals that in the end may fit and need that little bit of substrate which will be good for them. Let's go with the fourth one. Well, here we have a question from angel, who is worried that a turtle accidentally bites one of these artificial plants or resin decorations. Let's see. Angel, don't worry, nothing should happen. Usually turtles take a first bite, which is more for feeling, and nothing should happen. If you have bought products in stores, be careful with this specialized ones. This decoration is approved so that you can use it with your turtle without any problems. But what I would say is interesting is that we came from another question about the type of substrate. For example, if you are going to use a substrate, Angel, I would recommend that it be free of edges. For example, look, you see that it does not have to be as smooth as possible so that the animal does not suffer a cut due to the type of decoration. That is why it is important that all this decoration is decoration that does not cause any scratches to the animal or rub its skin or anything. This is really interesting for you to take into consideration when choosing decoration for your turtle tank. And now let's move on to the fifth question. Well, bro, you are asking me if you can buy aquatic turtles in Spain? Well, let's see. There are regulations on the purchase of turtles, both aquatic and terrestrial. The animal welfare law has also put it into many people's heads that you cannot buy them. Yes, you can buy them. There are certain species that you can buy. In our kiboko stores, you can buy aquatic turtles that are also sold with a sales contract. This is important. And we will always sell aquatic turtles that comply with all regulations within Spain. This is important because there are turtles that can be protected which cannot be sold. Do you understand? The aquatic turtles that we sell in stores can be purchased with all the guarantees. Remember, I insist once again that the important part here is that at the time of purchase, there is a sales contract for the animal. Okay, and now let's move on to one last question. Well, here Josu23 makes a comment that I loved. Let's see. It is true. Usually in most stores, they do not explain that shrimp and gammaris are nothing more than a treat. Real food has to be a complete food, that this nutritional value can help them at all stages of their life. This is always a very annoying thing to say. Shrimp are treats, and you can't just feed them treats. You have to give them food that helps them. On the other hand, Osu, I think it's wonderful that you've established such a nice relationship and that you can feed your turtles directly. Here, I would also like to emphasize a topic that concerns me a lot and that I especially want to share with you. Most aquatic turtles, like almost all reptiles, are carriers of different pathogens, including salmonella. What does this mean? That every time I have contact with them, whether it's to feed them, clean them, or take them for a walk, I have to wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. And above all, remember that aquatic turtles are not toys. And we can't let children play with them and then not wash their hands. They are pets that must be respected. And above all, we must worry about cleaning our hands thoroughly and following all the basic rules of hygiene. What does this mean? Obviously, I wash my hands. Obviously I clean the filter. Obviously I do regular water changes. And above all, I take them to the vet regularly and with that I say goodbye, but not before I invite you to leave any doubts or questions in these comments or in any of our videos. I will continue to make this type of content about the most relevant questions that I get in your comments. And I insist once again, it is important to take good care of our pets and above all, to maintain clear hygiene rules such as washing your hands.
