Because, as you know, cats are like that. If they say no, they don't. Many times in the office, we also try to get our patients, our cats, to start eating, and we don't succeed or we have a really hard time. That's why we have to be very resourceful. And it's something that has kept all veterinarians up at night at some point. First of all, and I don't think I need to say it too much, but if you see that your cat doesn't want to eat and is also vomiting, losing weight, has diarrhea, or has some type of chronic illness that has already been detected by the vet, the first thing you should do is take them to the vet to see what's wrong, because it could be that there is something serious that you are downplaying. This video is aimed more at those kittens who are recovering from some type of serious illness, who have gone a long time without eating, and who we can't get to start devouring their food bowl again as they did before. And for that, in my professional experience, I. I have developed some tricks, some techniques that I have observed work better for cats. These are tricks that I have learned in the office and that work for me. The first trick that I want to recommend is that you don't put too much food in front of your cat, because a lot of food tends to overwhelm cats, although not in all circumstances. When the cat is very hungry, it will eat everything you put in front of it. But in cases where they are a bit delicate, a bit listless, don't put everything in front of me because it will make me a bit tired. As they say here in Andalusia, avoid dry food. I have told you many times that cats like juicy food, food that fills their palate. So we have to start by always offering them pate, because the cat is more likely to start eating when it feels a bit more stimulated. In addition, pate smells a bit more than kibble, and that also helps. Above all, the pate should not be cold from the fridge. If it is very, very cold, you will not convince your cat to open its mouth. What we usually do is take one of these coffee spoons and put a hazelnut on top of the coffee spoon. You don't have to put that small amount in your cat's mouth as if it were, here comes the plane, like what I was trying to do with Totoro. Instead, you have to introduce it little by little, bringing it close to his mouth. See if he shows any interest in eating it. See if he starts to sniff it, because those are already good signs. If you start to see that type of behavior in your cat, don't overdo it either. Don't keep bringing it closer. Let his curiosity be what makes him approach the food. If, when you put the paintball in front of him, you see that your cat doesn't like it much, you can try diluting it a little in water so that it's a bit of broth. You don't have to dilute it in the drinking water. Many people do this by putting a little bit of food in the water. And that way when he drinks something, it feeds him, because cats don't like dirty water at all. And then you can make them not want to eat or drink, and that would be an absolute disaster. You'll have to make a very small mixture so that the cat has it regardless of what it's drinking. And so little by little, it will try to eat, or in that case, drink that broth that has a few more nutrients than just water. But if you still can't get your cat to want to eat, there's something else you can do. Heat the food a little. That way it will smell a little better, and that can encourage your cat to want to eat it. But be careful, because wet pet food heats up super quickly in the microwave. Really? I mean, in three seconds you have it super hot. If you put it in, I don't know, you say, well, 30 seconds, you can create a mess in your microwave because that food sizzles a lot. It ends up spreading all over the microwave. And when it's also very hot, it's normal for cats to reject it. It's warm. It's hot, but warm. It's just a point. I'm telling you, it's three seconds. I'm telling you from experience. Come on. One more thing. Clean the dishes where you offer the food well with neutral soaps that also don't have an odor, so that that doesn't become a reason or an excuse for your cat not to want to eat it. It's better to use small bowls, bowls and feeders that aren't made of plastic, because plastic absorbs Odors more. And the cat may also reject that. Also, never leave it on and go away saying, well, if he doesn't want it now, he'll want it in a little while, maybe when it's no longer around, because it doesn't usually work. It gets cold and a crust forms on top that makes the cat say, this, this is disgusting stuff you're putting in front of me. I wouldn't eat it even if I were dead. And finally, the syringe doesn't work with cats, although it may work the first or second day at most the third, then they end up rejecting the food you're giving them, and not just the syringe, but any type of food or pate that you put in front of them sometimes. Well, we have no other choice. And you may have seen us vets take the pill, crush it, dilute it, and put it in a syringe to be able to give it to them. Or we've even told you to do it at home. But it's a solution that in no case should be long term because as I said, it's not good for the cat. And that's it for all the tricks that you can do at home and that you have to keep in mind. The idea is that little by little the cat will regain its appetite and start eating a little more each time if it stays the same all the time. And like that, like, I don't eat much, I eat a little bit what I want. That's not a good sign. If you see that his gums are yellowish when you lift his lip like this, run to the vet, because this is a very urgent situation. It is also important for you to know that you cannot give him all the food he wants at once on the first day if he has not eaten for a while. When you give him a lot of food, it is like boom.
