¿Un líquido apestoso que le sale a tu gato por el culo? | Y no es 💩

This is a YouTube video titled "¿Un líquido apestoso que le sale a tu gato por el culo? | Y no es 💩" created on April 10, 2019. The content features a clinical veterinarian named Carlos and his colleagues Jose and another speaker discussing a veterinary topic about smelly liquid secretions from cats' anal glands. The video is educational and informal, aimed at pet owners concerned about their cats' health, explaining causes, symptoms, and when to seek veterinary care. The tone is conversational but primarily a single-speaker informative presentation with some interaction among the participants.
I promise you the title of this video isn't Clickbait. I'm going to tell you about a very unpleasant thing that cats sometimes get out of their butts. I won't say more. Hi, I'm Carlos, a clinical veterinarian at Small Animals. Welcome to the Happy Pets and Families Channel. First of all, no, I'm not talking about your cat's poop. Jose, give me one of those happy poops that always sweetens the moment a little. I'm telling you that I've received a question online. I think it was on Instagram, right? Where did it go?
Wait, YouTube, where else? Oh, on YouTube, where Tammy asked me. Carlos, can you talk about when cats have a smelly liquid coming out of their anus for no reason? A little face with a tear in it. Thanks for your videos. Hey, maybe she was referring to liquid poop.
Man. I hope that our followers, who are all very smart, know how to differentiate between poop and other things that have nothing to do with poop. The truth is that, yes, it is possible that other things come out of your cat's butt that have nothing to do with poop and that are also smelly liquid and do not look good. Have you ever seen it on your cat? Let me know in the comments. Please do not take pictures. In fact, Tammy has not been the only one who has asked me this in the last few days. Very recently, a client came to the office who was very, very worried because she had noticed that her cat was having a secretion with a disgusting, disgusting smell coming out of her cat's butt. Around the butt or vulva area. She didn't know exactly where it was coming from either. Disgusting smell. What a veterinary term that is.
Hmm. Well, that's what she already told me. Hey, and I can attest to this if I take off my vet suit. It smells super disgusting. With the vet suit on, I bite the bullet and do what I'm doing most of the time. When people smell it for the first time, they usually tell me that it smells like rotten fish. It has a metallic smell like rotten fish. I don't know if you know that cats have something called anal glands in their butt. If you think of your cat's butt as a clock, the anal glands are located between the four and eight o' clock positions. These glands have several functions, including lubricating a little bit when they poop. And they also have a recognition function because they have a characteristic smell and pheromones that are characteristic of each animal. That's why many of them when dogs walk through the park, they sniff each other's butts to recognize each other, because there are also pheromones there. These little glands have to empty. Normally when your cat poops, especially if your cat's poop is hard, it should empty. Normally there should be no problem or anything like that, but sometimes the content is a little denser or there has been a slight obstruction or whatever and a little more quantity is retained. It could be that you squeezed your cat a little too hard when picking it up from the ground, or that when you pet it, you squeezed it a little harder, and that's why the gland emptied and you notice that transparent brownish liquid with a pretty, pretty bad smell. As I'm telling you, there are also some situations in which your cat may poop softer than usual, and that's why the glands don't empty. Because when you having the poop come out through, the butt doesn't squeeze the glands, and that's why they don't empty. So in that case, sometimes the glands fill up a bit more and this happens that we're talking about, that they suddenly empty without any reason. But it's normal for Tammy and my client to come to the consultation the next day totally worried because most of you don't see that liquid coming out of your cat's butt, because it's usually evacuated routinely through the poop. When your cat goes to the litter box and does its poop, your cat empties its glands, and you don't usually see that liquid. Of course, if that happens to you with a cat that's already five years old, that's lived with you all its life, and that you've never seen it before, and suddenly, overnight, a couple of days in a row, you see it. Well, of course it normal to worry. It's important that you observe your cat and that you're always aware of its health, that you always check if anything is wrong with it, and that you, as its family, also worry about it. If you notice something that you had never seen before. But if you see that your cat is normal, that it doesn't hurt at all, that it has only been sporadic at a certain time, well, it is most likely that your cat does not have any type of health problem. Normally, it is nothing serious. If you suddenly see that your cat expels the contents of the glands, as I am telling you, like liquid of a brown color. But there is a circumstance in which you could worry. As I said, there are times when the glandular container becomes a little denser and is evacuated less frequently. Oh, and I forgot to tell you. How are you going to notice all this? Most cats start to drag their butt on the ground a little more or lick that area much more insistently. That could be the origin of the problem. What problem? Well, I'll tell you about it in the park. In those cases, think that the area of the butt and where the poop comes out is, well, full of bacteria, well, everywhere, because bacteria also come out of the intestine, and that's where an infection can end up. It's what's called an anal gland infection or an anal gland infection. The gland can't evacuate the liquid it has inside. And what ends up happening is that a wound forms on the outside through which all the contents and all the pus that has formed inside due to the infection come out. If you suddenly find a small ulcer, a wound, something that you see that shouldn't be there next to your cat's anus that's bleeding and that's also leaking purulent content, you have to take it to the vet, because in these cases, treatment is needed, a thorough dressing is needed, and the vet has to explain to you how to do it. Although, as I always say, if what I explain to you in this video, for whatever reason, doesn't match what you're seeing in your cat and you still feel worried and want to clear up any doubts, what you have to do is make an appointment and go to the vet, the vet's office, because that's where they're going to do a physical exam, and we'll all be able to breathe a lot easier. And that's it for today's video, or mini video. If you liked it, give it a like and share it with everyone. Remember to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already, because we might fly away with the wind today and you'll never see us again and hit the bell. So YouTube will notify you every time we upload a new video. Thank you very much for following the Happy Pets and Families Channel, and I'll see you in the next video. Today we have another one of those comments where you want the best for us or I do anything for the fans. Let's see. Carlos, I really like you. I like that, and I like your videos. But this one seemed bizarre to me because of Totoro's annoying meows. He's referring to the video where we show you how to take your cat for a walk in the park and put on the harness and stuff. And because it would have been great to use a real cat to see how to put on the harness instead of using a stuffed animal and a bow. On the other hand, this is a critique so that your videos are better. That Totoro thing is pretty ridiculous. Those of us who like cats think it's really cheesy that you take out a stuffed animal.
Recording and we count five or two. I don't care if you think Jose is going to laugh at this. Three, two, one, go. Don't say it now. Why not?
Because then you'll sound the alarm.
Because on the Internet, people tend to be quite alarmist. Not me. I'm good.
Open window and focus.
Remember to subscribe to the channel. This was the bell. Don't subscribe. Everything. You came into the world with this. 3, 2, 1. You don't say it anymore and turn around.
Wait, wait, wait, wait. I'm going to do it wrong. I'm seeing it.
