I'm your host Karen Meininger and today we're tackling a compelling topic. Do you choose to be bitter or better? And you always get to choose the path. Life is unpredictable and often challenging. We face hardships that can leave us feeling hurt, disillusioned. But the real question is how do we respond when these challenges happen? Do you feel bitter or do you use them as a stepping stone to become better? Consider this. Two people are going through similar difficult experiences. One becomes angry and resentful, seeing life as unfair, feeling like the victim. The other acknowledges the pain, the difficulty, looks for the lessons and opportunities for growth. Why are these such different responses? The answer lies in our mindset. It's the choices that we make. Being bitter is so much easier. It's this passive response where we let external circumstances dictate our feelings and outlook. But choosing to be better, that's active, conscious decision. It requires effort, resilience and usually a change in perspective. But how do we make this choice? How do we become better over bitter? Well, it starts with awareness. We need to recognize our feelings of bitterness and understand where the root is coming from. Like where deep in your core are these experiences and this bitterness coming from? Because usually it's not. The actual act or behavior that somebody did is usually rooted from early childhood. You're probably a wounded little 7 year old and it's really hard to heal that inner child. But when we can start shifting our focus instead of dwelling on went wrong, we can ask ourselves what can I learn from this? How can I grow? It's about practicing gratitude. Also, it's not about ignoring the bad, but acknowledge the good. It's about finding things, however small, that we can appreciate in our lives. This journey isn't a one time decision. Things aren't going to change overnight. But if you practice and make a choice every day, to be better. Think of a if you hit the pinata once, it's not going to open up for all the candy. But if you continuously and are consistent in hitting that pinata, that candy is going to explode. So if you can do the daily practice, you can do the hard things. You can learn from the struggle. It's going to be a positive outcome and the bitterness isn't going to take over. You're going to learn to be better. So with that said, I encourage you to reflect on your own life. Think about challenges you faced and are facing. Ask yourself, am I letting these experience make me bitter or am I using them to be better? Remember, the choice isn't always easy, but it's always there. You always have a choice. Every day we have the opportunity to choose our responses to life's challenges. And in those choices lies our power to shape our life. Thank you so much for joining me on the Rise, Shine and Redefine podcast today. Until next time, remember the paths we choose define us.
