What'S going on, everyone? Casey Adams here. Welcome back to the Rise of the Young podcast and Happy Wednesday. Today's episode I'm going to be talking about TikTok and I've been getting a lot of messages and people hitting me up about TikTok because I was just at their corporate office and I've been talking a lot about it on Instagram and. And if you're listening to this podcast, chances are you've heard of what TikTok is, but you may or may not be utilizing it to your advantage. So today's episode I'm going to be talking about why I'm using TikTok, how you should be using TikTok, as well as giving you some examples and some data of what I've learned from working closely with their company now. And that being said, I have a big announcement. I got verified on TikTok today and I'm pretty stoked. I have less than 2000 followers and I've just been able to build a great relationship with their team and their company and I'm super excited for the future of really what the platform is to be. So let me just go ahead and start with this. Gary Vee has been talking a lot about TikTok and he is the person who sort of put me on the wave and I'm gonna play an audio clip from his Instagram that may or may not change your mind about how you think about TikTok. So let me play this real quick.
TikTok may or may not, but it's at enough scale and it's young enough to do to Instagram what Instagram did to Facebook.
What do you do on TikTok then?
I'm putting out, you know, a lot of content when I'm hanging out with artists and hip hop artists and things of that nature.
Yep.
Or just silly cr. Or honestly just trying to talk to the 8 to 13 year old entrepreneurs.
All right, all right. You heard him. You heard him. He said, TikTok has the opportunity to do what Facebook did to Instagram, or what Instagram did to Facebook. Sorry. And it's important because if you're listening right now, chances are you're building a personal brand, you have a business, or you. You're a young entrepreneur and you want to get started creating content and living your best life. Because that's what this podcast is about. It's about young people rising. Rise of the Young is a movement of people, whether you're 9, 19 or 29 or 39, we're all young at heart. And you have to understand that this platform is young. TikTok is a platform that you can grow with, your audience can grow with you. And I've seen literally just the past two weeks of me putting out content. I have a video with over 117,000 views, another one has over 80,000, and I had zero followers on that platform, period. And I want you to think about this. And I'm gonna be reading some facts here today based on the research I've done about TikTok, just to really give you some insight into their numbers. So let me go ahead and get started. TikTok is a company which was previously known as Musical Ly. It was acquired in August 2018 by the Chinese company ByteDance and rebranded as TikTok. So you may have heard of Musical Ly, you may not know that it got rebranded, but that is the case. So maybe that helps put some things together. If you aren't aware, if you're a Marketer, here are 12 statistics you ought to know about TikTok. I will continue. Number one, TikTok was downloaded more than 660 million times in 2018. Number two, TikTok is more popular on Android than iOS. Number three, 26.5 million of the 500 million monthly active users are from the U.S. number four, TikTok's user base is largely based in India, at 43% of all users. Number five, 66% of users are younger than 30 years old. Number six, users typically spend around 52 minutes per day on the app. Number seven, 80% of TikTok sessions are Android devices. Number eight in app purchases have increased by 275% year over year. Meaning if you're an advertiser, you have some opportunity there. Number nine, 29% of monthly users open TikTok every single day. Number 10, 11, and 12. These are just more so fun facts. The Raindrop challenge has over 685 million views on TikTok. Number 11, Jimmy Fallon's Tumbleweed Challenge created 8,000 videos with 9 million views in seven days. And last but not least, there are more than 5 million in My Feelings Challenges videos on TikTok compared to 1.7 million on Instagram. So to think about trends, a lot of these trends are going viral on TikTok. When you think about the song Old Town Road by Lil Nas X, his song blew up off of TikTok. And the reason why I read you these statistics is because of this. If you're not on TikTok yet, it's time to start utilizing the platform for your personal brand and your business. Because the the platform as of now is only growing from here. And if you're listening, chances are you've heard of TikTok, chances are you've maybe seen Gary Vee talk about it, but you're still not putting content out on it. You're still not taking it seriously. And you should. And that's what I'm here to tell you today. This isn't gonna be a long episode. This is just a reminder on this Wednesday, because I've heard it a lot and I try to not, I would say, contradict myself, because as this industry of social media is evolving, you have to make sure you remain optimistic about the platforms that are there today. Because what people thought MySpace was isn't what it is today. Right? There's other platforms like Facebook and Instagram and Snapchat and Twitter that are really dominating, especially Instagram right now. That's where I spend all of my time, building a personal brand, networking with people, setting up podcast interviews, and. And that is my main platform. And I wouldn't say it was hard for me, but it still is to this day, challenging to pivot to a platform and spend all of your focus on it. And I know Gary Vee always says, don't be romantic about a platform, but when I go to a platform, I try to pivot and dominate. So that's what I'm doing right now on TikTok. On Instagram, I've built a brand, I've connected with every single person to then move to my podcast, which is where you're listening right now. I spend a lot of time and energy on doing these interviews and putting out quality content. But for TikTok, I'm just doing experimentation. I'm putting out a bunch of random content. My strategy isn't dialed in yet, but I have a little over 13,000 likes and 2,000 followers on there. And the reason I even bring this up today is because I want you to be ahead of the curve. Because even though TikTok, it may flop, right, it could not do anything for you or your business. But do you want to risk not doing it and missing the wave, or do you want to do it and say, oh, this isn't what I expected it to be in a year. What would you rather do for me? I'd personally like to be ahead and be optimistic about a platform that's valued at $75 billion, that has over 500 million monthly active users that people are taking for granted. Like, think about the numbers here, and it's because only 26 million monthly active users are in the U.S. the scalability of what's about to happen will be insane. So that being said, really, just to wrap it up, here is my challenge to you. Number one, create a TikTok account. Number two, follow me and send me a DM CaseyAdams, that's my username on TikTok, and say, Hey, I listened to your podcast about TikTok and I'm here to grow or whatever you want to say to me. Say something letting me know that you came from the Rise of the Young podcast. Because I'd love to, number one, get your opinion on TikTok and the platform itself. Number two, love to follow you and see what you guys are creating on TikTok to really just obviously help and support in any way I can. But most importantly, I will continue to say this. The DM slide has connected me with every single person in my life. And now that I'm looking at TikTok, I wanna utilize that principle and and DM people and get in touch with people and network with people. Even though it's not the same as Instagram, it's important. Use TikTok as a way to network with up and coming artists or celebrities or creators or videographers or whatever it is and be ahead of the curve. And if you're a business. Oh, here's what I forgot to mention. If you look at Instagram, there's things called theme pages I'm sure we're all familiar about. There's basketball theme pages and comedy pages and sports pages and so many different theme pages, right? Bill Drempauer. We post entrepreneurial content on TikTok. There isn't too many of these theme pages. So if you're a brand and you want to dominate TikTok as well. From a business perspective, look at Genius, look at Billboard, look at the NFL. These are all massive brands that have millions and millions of followers already on TikTok and you don't even know about it because they're capitalizing, they're ahead of the curve, literally, like NFL, they're getting millions and millions of views a day on TikTok. You know, just think about that as a brand, right? So don't think it's something little, right? Like for example, Marshmello, the artist, the DJ, he has what, 9 million followers on TikTok right now. And you wouldn't, you'd be like, wow, like, I didn't think people are blowing up like that. And it's true. Brands are dominating it. And if you have a brand or you own a company or you're just getting started, spend time and energy on TikTok. That's what we're about to do at build you'd empire and rise of the young as well. It's gonna be something that we are moving into. And I'm just speaking on behalf of what our plan is moving forward and giving you some more marketing insight into what's about to happen. But overall, like I said, my challenge is for you to, number one, start a TikTok account and send me a DM, letting me know that you came from the podcast. But number two, this is the information that I learned from the TikTok headquarters. They said post three to four pieces of content a week, use three hashtags in your post, and make sure the content fits the full screen. If you try to upload an old video, make sure it fits the full screen and there's no black lines around the edges. That's what they said will be most effective. And that's what I'm doing. I wanted to relay this content and information to you. That is my responsibility as someone that has a platform and has a podcast like this and what you're listening to. And I hope this helps because the people that take action, you are the people that will truly make a change. You know, rise of the young isn't something where I expect you to listen to these interviews and just feel great. I want you to execute and apply, number one, the information that the people I'm interviewing are saying. But number two, these little things like going on TikTok, you may think it's a waste of time. It could change your business, it could change your personal brand. You know, if you have a video with 10 million views, a million views 100,000 views that is attention to your product, your service or just you as a person. And one of the biggest pieces of advice I got from Grant Cardone was I wish I advertised, I wish I started advertising sooner. And this is a prime time to get involved with TikTok with the movement and I know I'm talking a lot about it. That's what this podcast today is about. This is not a paid promotion. This is something I genuinely want you to look into and be a part of because I don't want you to miss the boat. And that being said, if you are listening today, make sure you subscribe, make sure you leave a five star rating and review. I would very much appreciate it because that's all I have to say. This is a short episode this week. I'm not dropping any interviews. I want it to be very tactical and some different type of information than just interviews. And I like to be fluid with the podcast. So let me know what you thought about today. Let me know what you learned. Make sure you download TikTok. Follow me asyadams shoot me a DM on TikTok and let's definitely, definitely stay in touch and let me know what you think in a year from now. I think if the people that are listening today, you could be massive on TikTok as a personal brand, as a business and once they start rolling out monetization, you can start making money on there. So that being said, do not regret this. You're listening to this now and I'm telling you from people that I'm learning from, like Gary Vee and going to the TikTok corporate office. This is not a joke. It's something that you can capitalize on and I highly recommend you do so. That being said, I hope you have a phenomenal week. Happy September. There's only a couple more months left in 2019, so make sure you're executing, make sure you're setting your goals, make sure you're writing down every single day something you want to accomplish and make sure you stay focused. Focused. Thank you so much for listening to today's episode of Rise of the Young. I will talk to you guys soon. Peace.
