What's going on everyone? Casey Adams here. Welcome to the Rise of Young podcast. Today, episode 41. We got something cool that I have never done before on this podcast and that is a book review. So I'm sure as a lot of you guys know, Gary Vee's new book Crushing it came out around two to three days ago, but I was blessed to actually receive it around a week, week and a half ago. And I've actually read this thing twice already and pretty much this podcast is going to be a simple review of the Gary V. Book that just came out, Crushing It. I'm just gonna be giving you guys some insight about what the book is, kind of reading some dialogue from it that I have seen the most impactful from reading it twice already. So therefore I'm just gonna jump right into it. Like I said, I'm gonna read you guys a short little intro, I'm gonna talk, give it some of my own tone and really insights. But I'm also gonna talk from the book and read you guys some things regarding what I've took out of it the most. So if you have not read the book Crushing yet, yet, make sure you stay tuned with this entire episode because I want to make sure that I give you a lot of practical stuff that Gary Vee talks about inside of his book. So therefore, let's get started. So number one, when you first open the book, there the page that has just a bunch of words that opens up the book and I'm gonna read it, it says this, this is dedicated to all the people who are visionary enough to recognize the enormous opportunities where we've been given in this new digital age, and who are brave enough to demand and seek out happiness not only in their life, but also in their work. So that was the opening thing from Gary regarding. Just look at all the opportunity with social media, building a brand, all this stuff online. And he just wants to appreciate the people that are coming to the book to listen or to read it or anything like that. So when you open the book, they have a little introduction about who Gary is and what he's done and all that sort of stuff. But when you get into the first chapter, I'm gonna read you guys stuff from each chapter or something that I've taken from it. So this is the next thing that I wanted you guys to know. This is coming from the opening chapter of his book, and this is just overall the introduction. So he says this. The explosion of YouTube and Instagram, the emergence of podcasts, the unique ability of platforms like Facebook and Twitter, all have led us to the tipping point I predicted nine years ago. You. You already have the tools to build a kind of powerful personal brand that can change your future. So that's just coming from Gary, letting people know pretty much that, yo, he was right nine years ago, he predicted social media and the way that it was going to evolve. So shout out to Gary if you're listening. I definitely respect it. And therefore, we move into the first chapter. The first chapter is pretty cool. It's called Get Pumped. And as soon as you read it, you're like, damn, well, let's dump right in. So. So, number one, the path is all yours. That's the name of the first chapter. This is how it starts. An entrepreneur is someone who finds a way. And I really feel like this is the best way to open up a book, in my opinion, to just let people know that if you're an entrepreneur, you're gonna figure out the way or you're not. Simple as that. It's binary, black and white, whatever it may be. I know Gary Vee always talks about, yes, no, zero to one, clouds, dirt, whatever it may be, it's binary. And I totally agree with him. So I think that was a great quote to really start the book off. But that being said, this is some statistics that Gary put in the book from the upfront, and it says this. YouTube's daily viewership is closing in on TV's 1.25 billion hours per day as television viewership falls every year. Another fact, one in every five minutes spent on mobile is spent on Facebook's apps and services. Other fact, every minute, 65,900 videos are posted on Instagram every single day. Next, over 3 billion snaps are created each day on Snapchat, wherever 60% of ads are watched with the audio on. And that was just kind of giving us some facts about the current state of social media, how many people are on it, and really just to stay aware from the overall opportunities that have come from it. So that being said, I would say that's pretty much summarizing chapter one for everyone listening. Pretty much he talks about the current state of social media, what his thoughts were nine years ago, how it evolved, and pretty much just gave us a brief overview of what's to come in the book. So number chapter two was super, super interesting. He talks about something super important and that is what still matters in social media online, on the digital age. And this is something that you guys are listening are going to really appreciate me for. So he says this in the opening chapter to number two. He says, intent, authenticity, passion and patience, speed, work and attention, those are the stuff that you still have to care about and that still matter each and every time on social media. So it doesn't really matter the platform, doesn't really matter the audience. But if you have intent with a purpose to make it really impactful for your audience, you're authentic, you're passionate in your. You have patience as well as you have speed, work ethic and attention to detail and that's how you're going to win on social media. And I think that was a cool kind of thing I've taken from this because he doesn't just give you any meanie minimo practical stuff. He gives you the outlook of it. Meaning if you have passion on social media with a purpose, with an authentic personality, yes, you have more opportunity to win. So he just pretty much gave us a little insights to what he's been doing, what will win over time. And I think it was super, super cool to see that. So I know the book is around 200 and let's see, around 300 pages and there's a lot to go through. But I'm just gonna keep this short and simple. This entire just book review from Crushing it. Like I said, this is gonna be something that I went through the book twice already. I highlighted a lot of it and I just want to give you guys some insights. So I'm sure a lot of you guys know, but also a lot of you may not know. I own a viral Facebook marketing agency where we focus on viral Facebook content. Well as really just creating stories on Facebook, using the advertising platform, making videos viral, and overall just building Facebook fan pages. That's something that my company specializes in. And when I open this book to the 12th chapters, it's labeled Facebook and it talks all about the current state of Facebook, where it's going, why you need to focus on it. And it really caught my attention and I want to share it with you guys today. So this was the opening paragraph of the chapter titled Facebook and this is what it says. Facebook remains the juggernaut of the social media game. A platform on par with YouTube for personal brand building and wealth creation. That may come as a surprise to a few readers. Facebook is often thought of as the old foggy platform. The place where boomers and Gen Xers share pictures of their families and fill out questionnaires to find which go to character they most resemble. Not the place where young generation is spending its time and money. That's just not the case. Here's the reality. If you're going to build a personal brand and try to monetize it, you have to have a Facebook page, period. It has almost 2 million monthly, 2 billion monthly active users, more than half of who use it daily. There are 1.15 billion daily active users on mobile. And this is how he ends it. If you're crushing it on Snapchat, YouTube or Instagram, but don't have a full throttle Facebook strategy, you, you are severely limiting your potential and growth, quote Gary Vaynerchuk. And this is what I mean, guys. He talks a lot about Facebook, but he does it from the point of view, from his thought process. He's letting you know if you are not focusing on Facebook, you have no intent to build a Facebook page. You are limiting yourself beyond belief. So if you're all listening right now, this is something practical I want you guys to take from this podcast. Set up a Facebook fan page now, today. Don't hesitate and start putting out content on it, building it, Facebook Live, whatever it may be. Because this is coming straight from the book Crushing It. It came out two days ago and this is something I'm taking practical action on because Gary V's books are by far the most practical, relevant sources of information when it comes to personal branding. And as for me, I work with a lot of personal brands. My company, this is something where I think a lot of you guys will see the benefit but won't actually execute on it. So I would highly suggest everyone to set up a Facebook page if you don't have it already a fan page, start putting stuff out there and overall just start executing on it today. So that being said, I know that you guys have heard or you may not have heard about the upcoming thing on Facebook called Facebook Watch and it's pretty much a platform that it's kind of competing with YouTube and this is what Gary says about it. Finally, as big as YouTube is, by the time this book is published, Facebook will be emerging as a fierce competitor in video marketing. Marketing. Mark Zuckerberg called video a megatrend of the same nature as mobile and has made it clear that Facebook's future revolves around video. So that being said, everyone listening when it comes to Facebook, do not hesitate, do not sleep on the Facebook game. That is the overall concept of what I've got from this chapter. What I want to give to you is that Facebook is not a platform to take lightly, to double down on it. Make sure that you're putting in focus into it because it will highly benefit you in the long run. So I just wanted to let that out now, but that's something super, super important. Alright, so this is the next thing that Gary says regarding Facebook. This is the last thing I'm going to talk about for Facebook, so make sure you listen. He says this, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post on YouTube or anywhere else, of course, but do not under underestimate the power that doubling down on Facebook could have on your brand. Facebook is the first platform that has combined the ability to do marketing, sales, branding all in one place and is still vastly underpriced for the amount of attention you can get there from its nearly 2 billion monthly users. So shout out to Gary for letting us all know regarding Facebook and everyone listening to the rise of the young podcast today. Do not hesitate, take action today. Build that Facebook page, get it moving and overall just execute on what I'm saying here. This is coming straight from the book and I want you guys to really get a good insight about what I'm talking about so you guys can really execute with a purpose. And then I'm sure a lot of you guys know Instagram is super powerful, super beneficial to your brand. And this is something that I thought was super funny when Gary Vee opened up the chapter called Instagram. So I'm gonna go ahead and read parts of it for you. He ays, except for YouTube, Instagram has created more famous people than any other platform. It's massive. It's a place where you can be equally as a content producer or a content Curator and it's the hottest social network in terms of scale and impact. Some would say it's gotten harder to get noticed there now because it's crowded, but it's gotten so popular, the college graduates are actually taking a year or two to see if they can get big on Instagram before trying to get a traditional job. And literally when I, when I read that, that really hit me. I was like, damn. This is literally the culture that has created around social media. Like Gary said, people are literally focusing on building a brand on Instagram because it has long term value, that if you're able to pull it off with a perfected strategy and case of action, there's so much upside to building a personal brand. So that's just pretty much what he said regarding people who are literally trying to build brands and get a job because it's impactful. So that being said, here's another thing that he says. There are so many great tactics you can use to gain awareness on Instagram such as hashtags, collaborations, tagging, ads that I believe the attention and the influencer can enjoy here, especially skilled photographers and other artists, runs deeper than on Twitter, than Facebook. So Instagram definitely. I'm sure all of you listening already know putting in effort on Facebook and Instagram especially like we just talked about, is the key to your brand. So that being said, go out there, build an Instagram. Let me know if you have any questions. I know I just made a podcast regarding five actionable steps to building a personal brand on Instagram. So make sure you go check out that one. Super, super, super valuable. But the next thing I'm gonna talk about is Instagram. Like I said, but I'm gonna read a sentence right now that's super important that I wanted to just let you guys know about. He said there are many features that make Instagram a requirement for any budding influencer or entrepreneur. You can post for prosperity, or you can post for instant gratification. You can draw and filter and caption and tag through. The feature is currently available only to verified accounts. You'll soon be able to add links to your post, a simple move that will open the floodgate of opportunities to drive people to your content. So that being said, he pretty much just let us all know, once again, Instagram, super powerful. Build the brand on it. And that's the thing I want you guys to just take away from this. But here's something that I thought was super cool as well. He pretty much just gave us a seven step biz dev strategy from the book, and I'm just gonna read bits and pieces of it. I'm not gonna take it right from the book, but this is something that Jerry says. He says, make sure your Instagram is full of incredible content. The best you can make more people are about to come. See what you're about. That was number one. Number two, and this is an example for everyone listening. Search relevant keywords. For example, if you're building a biker brand, look up motorcycles. Click on the first hashtag that shows up. He said, as I write this, There are over 2.4 million posts with motorcycles. Then click on every picture you see with that hashtag. The first four that show up in the instance belong to accounts that have a combined following of over 1 million Instagrammers. So do your digging. Look up hashtags. It will be super, super beneficial for you. And then number six, he says, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of their pages and send those individuals or businesses a custom written direct message, quote, unquote. Do not spam with cut and paste bullshit. If that's the best you can do, you've already lost. I'm telling you, that was by far the most beneficial line that I've picked up from this chapter. It was just, do not copy paste. If you do that, you've already lost. Because I talk about this a lot when it comes to sending DMs. I know that I've had a lot of success from sending dms on Instagram. I've met a lot of cool people. So that's coming straight from Gary V. Do not copy and paste DMs and send them to a bunch of people. It will not work. And therefore, that is something actionable I want you guys to take away. So this is something he said about DMs. He says only a teeny fraction of the people you reach out to will respond. And I totally agree with him. Like I said before my last podcast, I about five actionable steps to building a personal brand. DMing people consistently was one of them. But it was the follow up. Not many people are gonna get back to you. That's the honest factor of it. But the people that do are the people that are gonna help you win. So I just want to point that out because that's something that I think was very, very beneficial, that I hold a lot of respect in what Gary says, literally for everyone listening. It's currently February 1st, and I have a meeting with Gary Vaynerchuk February 9th, so in eight days. And it came from a Direct message, literally. And I'm not just saying that to say, oh, my God, I have a meeting with him. I'm telling you that because it's literally came from a direct message that I get to meet one of the biggest brands on social media currently. I get to pick his brain for 15 minutes. And it's overall just a huge, huge goal of mine to do that. And this literally came from a little short sentence on direct messages. So do not sleep on the power of DMs. They're super, super powerful. Chapter 14 of the book, something I think is super cool as well as super relevant. It's called podcast. And you're currently listening to my podcast right now. This is the Rise of the Young podcast. And pretty much this is one of my favorite chapters because I started this podcast due to the fact that Gary was consistently putting out content around podcasting. I was going to meet him, so I was like, yo, let me bust out a podcast. Let me start focusing on it. And that's what I did. So this is episode 40. It's been a little over a month now since we started the Rise of the Young podcast. Shout out to everyone listening. We're hit top 10, top business podcasts in the world. We're over 33,000 downloads. I'd appreciate everyone if you could share it with a friend. It has been an amazing journey so far, but chapter 14, this is what he says about podcasting. Podcasts are a godsend for two reasons. Number one, most people aren't comfortable on camera. They think they look stupid. They worry about their hair, their glasses, or their makeup. They. They fuss over lighting. None of it matters. But it's enough to distract them from concentrating on providing the best experience they can for their viewers. Podcasts are far less intimidating, and I totally agree with that. Even though I do love being on camera and actually recording videos. Podcasts are something that I can do anytime, anywhere. No regrets. It's just my voice. You guys are just listening to this right now, and it's something that you just do passively. You could be in the car right now. You could be in your room, you could be in the shower. You could be anywhere listening to this. And you're not putting as much focus into watching a video. And that's why podcasts are winning, because it's passive listening. Number two, podcasts sell time, which is why everyone, including people who rock on camera, should try to create one. In this hyperspeed world, multitasking is everything. And it's a lot easier to listen to a podcast while you check your emails and pay your bills than to watch a video. The information age podcasts allow us to effectively and efficiently maximize our knowledge. So that was the biggest takeaways I got from that chapter with podcast. Super beneficial. I think it's super cool because I started my podcast literally a month and a half ago. We're crushing it right now and you guys are listening to me on the podcast and I think a lot of people underestimate what it can do because I've even gotten, I've had so many people start reaching out to me ever since I started making my podcast episodes, getting different guests on, and it's just super cool to really see how much traction you can really build from it. So if people are listening right now, if you have any questions about starting a podcast, make sure you hit me up because I have a person, a team that can help you get your podcast up. So let me know. But I talked about in the last podcast, five Actionable Steps to Building a Personal Brand on Instagram. And I talked about Voice, meaning Amazon Alexa Alexa skills, Alexa Flash briefings. And if you guys do not know about what this is, I'm sure you guys have heard about Amazon Alexa. So pretty much briefings. You can set up Flash briefings to really say, hey Alexa, play me Casey Adams briefings. And you'll be able to hear me say a little one minute rant, a little one minute dab of information, motivation, personal brand tips, social media tactics, whatever it may be. But if you download my Flash briefing on Amazon Alexa, which will be out in the next week, you'll be able to literally ask your Alexa to play my briefing, which is super cool. And Gary Vee talks about this in the last chapter of his book called Voice First. And this is how he starts the chapter, which is something very relevant to what we're talking to right now and what we're listening to right now for all the listeners. He says this may be my favorite chapter. Chances are good that most people reading have at least heard of, if not experimented with, all of the platforms we have discussed in this book. But few of you at the time of this writing are probably sitting around thinking, what's my Alexa skill going to be? And yet you should, because we're about to talk about a tech innovation that I am absolutely sure will transform how the world consumes content. It's called Voice first, and anyone currently building a personal brand needs to learn about it fast and early. Its platforms are the equivalent of yet to be discovered Malibu beachfront property, much like Twitter in 2006, Instagram in 2010, and Snapchat in 2012. Boom. That's all I'm saying guys. This is the future. I totally agree with Gary Vee. That's why I'm super going hard on this podcast right now. Voice is everything and for everyone listening. Like I said, if you have any questions about starting podcasts, let me know. I would love to be the person that inspired you to create a podcast. So if you would ever want me to appear on your podcast, you want any guests or anything, I would super be down to be one of your guests if you're interviewing people. But that being said, I have one more thing from this chapter and we will call it a day. We will call it an amazing book review. He says what they do during the first 15 minutes of their morning, the first 15 minutes after they come home from work, and the last 15 minutes before they go to bed are the attention pockets that Voice is going to capture. Because like I said before, it is passive listening. So that is pretty much the overall view of Crushing it by Gary Vaynerchuk. I've read this book twice, already, even been out for a week. But it's something that when I get a book by Gary V. I finish it, I read it, I execute on it. And I wanted to give you guys this podcast pretty much to just give you some insights about what the books about, give you guys a brief insight to what you can really take from it. Those were the most important things that I got from it. So I really hope that this provided you guys with a lot of value. I hope you guys got stuff from it, but most importantly, I hope you actually do something with it because it's super important to not just listen to this podcast, but to actually execute on it. So that being said, if you haven't already subscribed to the Rise of the Young podcast, make sure you subscribe. Drop a review. Share this with a friend. I know a lot of people love reading, but I think that regarding book reviews, let me know if you'd want me to do more book reviews. Some of the favorite books I've read, what I've gotten, what I've taken from them. So let me know. Send me a direct Message on Instagram aceadams1. If you want me to do more book reviews on my podcast, send me a DM with you came from this podcast, the Gary Vee podcast, as well as you send me a picture of the book you want or the title that you want me to review as well as I'll be doing some polls on my Instagram stories, so make sure you stay tuned. Go check that out. And thank you to everyone listening to the podcast. I really appreciate it. We're going to be having some giveaways coming soon with my book, Rise of the Young and if you have not heard of it, make sure you go check it out. It's just Rise of the Young. You can look it up on Amazon. I just got a box of a hundred yesterday, so super pumped up to do some giveaways on that. But that being said, I hope you guys got some value from this podcast and make sure you subscribe. Like I said, this was something that I want to know from you guys if you'd want me to do more book reviews. But that being said, I will see you guys on the next episode. Thanks for tuning in.
