What's going on, everyone? Casey Adams here. Welcome back to the Rise of the Young podcast. Today is April 24th and yesterday, if you have not heard my recent podcast, it's called I'm Back. And what I mean by that is if you're listening to this podcast right now, thank you so, so much. And moving forward, I'm going to be giving you guys tactical stuff about personal branding, stories and experiences that I've had along my journey, as well as interviews, which is the foundation of the Rise of the Young podcast. But other than that, welcome to the show. I'm excited to have you today. So that being said, I'm still in Richmond, Virginia. It's Wednesday and I go back to Phoenix tomorrow. But before I go back to Phoenix, I had to get out another podcast because I told you guys I'm gonna be putting out three a week. But honestly, I feel like putting out a podcast a day for the next week minimum. And that's what I'm gonna do. So stay tuned for that. And that being said, today I just got home, I wrapped up nine holes of golf with my two brothers. I actually got one here with me today. What's good? What's up, brother? How are you? Oh, dude, what's your name? If the people don't know, I'm Cody.
Adams, local real estate investor out of Richmond. Just kind of started, just wrapped up the first deal. So, you know, just going forward from there.
You heard that, guys? My brother, Cody Adams, he is a real estate investor here in Richmond, Virginia. So if you do real estate, hit him up on Instagram. His link will be down below. And yeah, Cody, how was our golf game today? Before we get into the podcast, what happened? Well, I kicked both of yours butts pretty good.
I think I shot what, six over?
Yeah, honestly guys, I'm gonna be completely transparent with you. I shot 21 over. And this podcast isn't about golf. But like I said on the recent podcast, I'm just going to start giving you guys genuine conversations about what's happening in my life, and I hope that's okay with you. Let me know what you think about that before we get into the show and shoot me a dm. But other than that, Cody, what's one thing you want to tell the people before I go on about my story of how I met Gary Vee and what happened previous to that? But that's the cliffhanger, Cody. What do you want the people to know about you, about what you're working on? Where can they find you?
Well, follow me on Instagram at odiadams. Just kind of started my entrepreneur journey after Casey Adams kind of got into his entrepreneurial journey, like, what, two years ago? And you know, I'm like, well, you know, if my younger brother's three three, it's three now already.
Oh, shoot. I started when I was 15. I'm 18 now.
Dang. So, all right, so three years ago, so I watched Casey and I'm like, you know what? As the older brother, I could do that. So, you know, I flew out to one of his events like a year ago in Washington state. I met these two guys, Chris Euler, Hayden Ludlow. You know, they kind of introduced the kind of the fact of like wholesaling and real estate investing and all that. And I was like, dude, I could totally do this. So, you know, came back home, kind of started learning a lot. Learning a lot. Got some courses under my belt. Shout out to Hayden and all them. They let me, let me on the right path, They've helped me out a little bit. And then, you know, took me about over a year to lock up my first deal. But hey, you know, money's money. And now it's moving forward from here.
Let's get it. So that being said, everyone, that's my brother, Cody Adams. He'll start appearing on more podcasts as the thing moves along. But Cody, thanks so much for having a quick feature on this. Absolutely, man. Boom. Alright, so the main point of the podcast today, the reason why I want you to pay attention right now, is because I have a story to tell you and it includes someone. But I think some of you may have already heard it before. And that is the time I met Gary Vaynerchuk. And it was about a year ago, May, March 4, 2018. So it was over a year ago when I sat down in Gary's office, literally, it was nothing Crazy. Just a quick introduction meeting for 25 minutes. But here's the catch. I tried to make it to Gary's office previously to that and I had a quote unquote hiccup in the road. So I'm going to tell you what that was. So overall, a lot of you may know me as the king of the DM slide, because every person I've ever connected with has came from a single direct message on Instagram. And that's what I like talking about. So I connected with Gary on Instagram. I remember it was the first launch of the K Swiss 001s. Gary V's and Gary Vee's team reached out to me and they sent me a pair early. And I remember I was walking up into school and I put on my Instagram story a boomerang of me wearing the new K Swiss shoes. I tagged Gary, I tagged K Swiss. And I was like, alright, cool, maybe someone will see it. But I didn't really expect them to. Long story short, I remember I got home from school and this is last year. I graduated high school, 2018. And I remember Gary Vee shot me a DM back and he was like, looks dope. I was like, dude, you already know I'm about to do a fire photo shoot with these. And he was like, can't wait to see it. So here's the thing, I had to shoot my ask. So pretty much I was like, yo, Gary, you've completely changed my life and it would mean the world to me if I could get five minutes of your time in person. He was like, hit up Tyler and got me his email. I was like, alright, cool. I didn't know when it was going to be and it was probably October 2017 at that point. And then I ended up meeting him in March 2018. But I remember the time when he got back to me, I shot Tyler an email. He said, yo, let's do it in February, like early February, come up to New York, here's the date. I don't. I think it was like February 11th or something like that. And I was like, amazing, this is gonna be phenomenal. So I booked my flights with me and one of my good friends or best friends, Anthony Bose, who was an artist, shout out to you, Anthony. And he did a portrait of Gary V. So me and Anthony, we're gonna go together. I was like, yo, Anthony, come with me, come with me to meet Gary Vee and give your portrait of him to him. And heck yeah, that's exposure for your art. So we're like, cool, let's do it. So that being said, we end up booking our flights to New York for, like, February 11, I believe it was, but don't quote me on that. And as the time is getting closer and closer and closer to February, I remember I started a podcast. It was December 27, 2017, and I had a goal, because at the time, Gary was talking about podcasts so much, and he was like, dude, start a podcast and put out content. Interview people, and you can leverage other people's brands if you do so. So I was like, cool, I'm going to do that. I'm gonna start a podcast. And I remember if. Think about time frames. It was December when I started the podcast. Gary hit me up in, like, October 2017. And then I had a meeting with him February 2018. So I'm like, all right, let me attach a time frame to this. Meaning I wanted to have 40 interviews by the time I met Gary Vee in his office so I could have something to talk about. So I remember I was like, all right, cool. Long story short, it's approaching February and I've knocked out 30 interviews with some of my good friends. Just when I started doing my podcast, I was doing an interview, like, every other day, and it was all done through Belive and Skype and all these different platforms, but overall, I was making it happen. And that was a huge goal for me to be like, alright, when I go to Gary's office, what can I ask him about podcasting that will help me take my podcast to the next level? And it was like, all right, let me get some interviews under my belt. And boom. I asked him a question about podcasting, and that's what I did. But here's the catch. And I want you to understand this, because whenever I talk about personal branding, when I go on stage anywhere, I always say this. Try attaching a time frame to everything you do, meaning if you want to make a certain amount of money before this date, write it down. If you want to have 30 interviews under your belt by this date, write, write it down. Always attach time frames to what you're doing. Because for me, that's allowed me to, I would say, accelerate my personal brand because I've always had, quote, unquote, due dates. And I think it's one of those things where it's like, since I graduated high school last year, you always have this mentality of like, oh, I gotta do homework and get it done by this day, which is tomorrow, right? And you procrastinate, procrastinate but you do it because it's due tomorrow. Or at least that's what I did. But that being said, I've tried to apply that tactic to everything I do when building a personal brand. But back to the story. Gary Vee podcasting my meeting on February 11th. Me and Anthony are getting super pumped up. We go to the airport the day of and everything is going phenomenal. But the weather is not looking promising. So we get to the airport, let's say my flight's at 9 in the morning. I think the meeting was at 3pm for fly to New York. We maybe have an hour or two to get to the meeting, right? And remember, I'm in school at this time. I take the day off of school. I'm like, alright, I'm gonna go meet Gary Vee on this Friday and let's go. So me and Anthony are at the airport, we check in, we're two hours early. We made sure we're there on time and the day is going great. I'm pumped up. I'm about to go to VaynerMedia in New York City, the first time ever in my life. And for those that know and follow me now, I've been up to VaynerMedia so many times now. There's such an amazing team up there. And yeah, it's like Justin Novella and Brandon Hatcher and all these amazing people that work for VaynerMedia and Gary's team. They're good people up there. And just by putting my foot in the door there about a year ago, I've been able to cultivate so many relationships. But other than that, back to the day of this event. So it's February 11th, I'm hyped to meet Gary Vee. We're at the airport, everything's going good. We get to the gate, me and Anthony and we're like, alright, we got like 45 minutes until we board. And as we're about to board, it's like 15 minutes. Boom. The lady at the desk says, alright guys, your flight has been delayed 30 minutes, but we're good to go then. So we're like, alright. It was one of those feelings where I was like, Alright, 30 minutes, we'll make the meeting still, but alright. This is kind of making me worried. I don't like when flights get postponed, especially when I have the most important meeting of my life at the time with Gary Vee in New York City. So I'm like, alright, cool. 25 minutes goes by. Alright guys, we have to postpone this flight another 30 minutes. So now our flights supposed to be at 9, now it's at 10am and our meetings at like 3, I believe it was. And I'm like, alright, this is, this is not good. I'm not feeling good. Me and Anthony are like, dude, believe, believe, believe. What is that noise? Not sure. I don't know if you guys heard that, but I heard something, but. Oh, well, let's keep going. So overall, it is almost 10am now. Our flight got pushed back an hour and. And I'm kind of freaking out. And I want you to get this point across before I continue with this story is that not everything is always gonna go your way, period. And two of my business partners, John Milott and Joshua Denny, they always tell me this. Prepare for the unexpected, right? Prepare for a rainy day. And this is what happened literally on that day. It was a rainy day. Like I said, the weather wasn't promising. And I'm like, all right, guys. All right, Anthony. Our flight got delayed an hour and in my gut I'm like, dude, this flight will be okay. We're gonna make it to New York, we're gonna make it to this meeting. Think positive. You gotta maintain that mentality. But sometimes things just don't go your way, right? So overall, almost an hour goes by, we're waiting for this flight to take off and it gets postponed again. 30 minutes. So it's like an hour and a half. And I'm like, wow, we may miss this meeting. We may miss the meeting with Gary Vaynerchuk and this is not good. So I'm emailing his team. I'm like, hey, flight just got delayed another 30 minutes. Just wanted to let you know, so if we're running a bit late, that you are aware of what's happening. And she's like, okay, no worries, see you then. So I'm like, okay, cool. At least they know, right? So, long story short, and the main point I want to get across of this podcast is simple. We wait another 30 minutes and then the bad news comes. We're sitting there and I believe you're already aware of what's about to happen. Excuse me, everybody. The flight from Richmond to New York City has been canceled. We apologize for this inconvenience. Me and Anthony are sitting there and we're like, my God, did that really just happen? We're going up to the gate, we're like, we have the most important meeting of our life. How can this not be? Can we get another flight? And there was no flights in New York that day. The Weather was bad, flights are getting canceled left and right, and overall, we did not make the meeting that day. We missed our flight, it got canceled. I had to send this email to his team and say, hey, flight got cancelled, can't make it today. And here is what I want you to take away from this story. Not everything's gonna go your way. Things will fail, you will get hurt, period. Right? So, and I want to kind of wrap this full circle and I don't want this podcast to take up too much of your time, but I want you to get the philosophy and the principle of this story because it wasn't the end of the world. I ended up emailing his team. We rescheduled for sometime in March, but in the moment, it was devastating. I take off a day of school, we're prepared to meet Gary V. We're super pumped up. We put it on social media, we're at the airport, we're waiting and it just gets canceled. And I'm like, damn, why? Right? It's like out of every single flight I've been on in the last year, that was the first flight that ever canceled on me. And it was the day that I was supposed to meet Gary Vee. And long story short, I still ended up meeting Gary March 4, 2018 at his office. You can go check that out on my Instagram as Well as my YouTube where we, me and Gary talk about multiple topics such as podcasting and personal branding and writing a book and all that sort of stuff. And I still ended up meeting Gary. But the main point I want you to take away today is that if you are in this entrepreneur space, you have a podcast, you're putting out content, you're building a personal brand, you're meeting people, you're setting up interviews, whatever it is, if this is your lane, not everything's gonna go as planned. You're gonna have to pivot, you're gonna have to do things different, you're gonna have to keep asking and be consistent. And I just wanted to tell you this story today because I want to give you my insight and my experience as an 18 year old entrepreneur that that has been able to interview some of the most world class entrepreneurs in the entire world within the last year and a half. And instead of you just listening to all the interviews I'm doing, I want you to start to hear from me and I want you guys to give me feedback. Send me a DM on Instagram. Caseyadams1 let me know what you thought about this podcast. Let me know what you Think about this style. Do you want me to just shut up and listen to my interviews? Do you want me to go more in depth on stories? Because I just did a poll. Let me look at this real quick. I just did a poll on Instagram about. It was 30 minutes ago. And I said, what would you rather hear my podcast, interviews, tips on personal branding, life stories, experiences, and daily recaps. So, so far, 20 people said interviews, 16 people said life stories and experiences, eight said tips on personal branding, and one said daily recap. So a lot of people want to hear interviews and stories and experiences. So that's what I'm gonna start focusing on. And like I said, I really would appreciate your feedback and that. Thank you so much for listening today, because this is something that I want to start doing every single day. If I can give you a story, a piece of advice, a nugget, which a lot of people say of just my experiences and what I've been doing and where my head is and where I'm focused and the good things and the bad things like that will make me happy and that will make me fulfilled. And my whole goal with this podcast is to add value to you. So, that being said, the only thing I'm asking of you on this show is to please share it with a friend. Share it with someone that is either A, has a podcast, B, is building a personal brand, or C, just needs to hear some stories about things not always going as planned. If you could do that for me, that would mean the world. So, that being said, if you want to follow myself on social media and you don't already, check me out on Instagram. Caseyadams1 Send me a DM. Because like I said earlier in the show, people call me the king of the DM slide, because that's literally how I've gotten in touch with literally 100% of people that I've had on my podcast. And I answer DMs, so shoot me a DM. And that being said, I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for being a listener on the number one podcast in the world. And funny story about that, my buddy, Drama Logan, Paul, everyone. There's a lot of podcasts where the hosts say, welcome back to the number one podcast in the world. So I'm gonna start saying that, and eventually we will be the number one podcast in the world. But we are already. So thank you so much for listening. Go check me out on Instagram, let me know what you think, and I will talk to you guys. Tomorrow. Peace.
