5 Things to do during break

Camille D. Jamerson shares five spring-break habits for entrepreneurs: take a real day off, declutter and donate at least 100 items, plan summer trips, map out promotions and social posts, and refresh your office space. Doing three of these leaves you organized and ready for busy months ahead.

Hey, just wanted to stop really, really quick before I run into this meeting and share 5 things that I do during spring break that really make the difference in building my business. 5 things, and I guarantee if you do at least 3 of these 5 things, you will go into your spring, into your summer with a little more pep in your step, a little more organized maybe, or even just a little more determined to achieve the things that you're seeking. So the first thing is that I do during spring break is I legit take a day off. And I don't mean like a day off as in you're working from home. I mean a legit day off. No phone, no email, no working on your business on the side, no stopping at Starbucks to work on your business, no reading stuff about business. A day off. I usually recommend doing something. I mean, sleep in, take a nap. Of course you want to try to get that in, but go to the movies, um, go bowling, go to the mall, do something so you're not tempted to work. And, um, some of you are like, you know, I don't even understand why is that a thing. Well, trust me, if you're an entrepreneur, you know exactly what I'm talking about. So number 1 is a day off. Number 2 is declutter. Um, now when I say declutter, I mean get rid of some stuff. Get rid of it, not put it in a different pile. Declutter means to get rid of clutter. Um, one of the challenges that I personally give myself is during the Lenten season is to try to get rid of at least 40 items. I have upped that this year to 100 items. Um, I usually will surpass that And that's— so that's my goal, is to get rid of 100 items or more. It could be pants, shirts, shoes, jewelry, books, even though I recommend that you never ever get rid of books. It could be magazines, it could be pots that you don't use anymore, pans that you don't use anymore, coats, scarves, whatever. 100 items, get rid of, get them out of your closet, get it out of your house and donate it. I mean, if you want to go through and mark all that stuff up, do that so you can get the tax credit or what have you. But if not, then donate it. Um, my city has a recycling program for that kind of stuff. If yours doesn't, then you should talk to your city officials and get that going. But aside from that, there are many places you could take it— Salvation Army, Grace Centers for Hope, whatever is in your area. There's definitely places that would appreciate your donation. So declutter, get rid of some stuff. Um, I think that when spaces are clearer, our minds are clearer. So that's the second thing. The third thing that I do during spring break is plan my vacation. So if you haven't done this already, plan your summer vacation. I don't care if it's 3 separate little long weekends. I don't care if you're taking a 2-week cruise, whatever you're doing, wherever you're going, plan that out. And if you've already planned it, then spend some time during spring break looking at excursions or looking at places that you want to go or things you want to do while you're on vacation. Look up the city that you're going to, see what's going on there, check out when the weather is going to be. All those things help build anticipation towards your vacation, and doing, doing that during spring break really gives you something to look forward to as the year progresses. So that's the third thing I do. Remember, the first one is take a day off, two is declutter, three is plan your vacation, and number 4 is to plan your summer promotions. So this is back to work, so to speak. Um, you want to plan your summer promotions, whatever your promotions are going to be for your business. If you're doing some type of discount, if you're doing a special of some kind, if you're offering a special program, if you are, um, advertising for a book that you have coming out or classes that you're releasing or videos, in my case new season for Mogul Moments. I'll be pushing for that. Whatever your summer promo is going to be, you need to plan what that's going to look like and start marking up what your social media push is going to look like, what your marketing efforts are going to look like, and how you're going to push that out in the seasons going forward. Some of you may have already done this. If you have, that's awesome. I would start looking towards fall. The more that you have done and have planned, the less you have to worry about doing. For those of you that Schedule your social media. Spring break is a great time to schedule some things way ahead, things that are general that can pop off anytime. You want to schedule that ahead so your social media pages are always jumping, they're always live, they're always full with the latest and greatest. So that's the fourth thing, plan your summer or fall promotions. The fifth and the last thing is, as you know, we always talk about spring cleaning, and that's fine. You should spring clean your house. I got that all scheduled for this week and into the weekend. But you want to specifically spring clean your office. So if your office isn't in your home, wherever your office is, plan to spring clean your office. So that means decluttering your office, getting rid of some things, organizing some things. Let's see, I usually buy something new for my little office space during spring break just to kind of refresh it. If you can paint, if you can add a picture, if you can, I don't know, add a little widget or whatever, even a fresh vase of flowers would be awesome. You know, that would be great in just refreshing your space and giving you a new outlook on spring. So those are my 5 things that I do every spring break. And I wanted to share them with you because perhaps they can help you really enjoy and mark spring break instead of it just passing by and you're not even noticing. Um, so again, number 1 is a day off. Number 2 is to make certain that you declutter, meaning get— getting rid of some things. The challenge is 100 pieces or more. Number 3 is plan your vacation. Number 4 is to plan your summer promotions. And then last but certainly not least is to clean your office space. So doing those 5 things, I guarantee you will, um, get you way ahead of the game. It'll help you enjoy your spring, and your spring will be productive instead of just a passing fancy. So those are my tips. Hopefully they help. Share this with somebody that you know, um, somebody that you know could use them. And if you're not following me on social media, make certain that you do that. But aside from that, I'm on YouTube. If you just put in the search engine, um, Mogul Moments Camille D. Jamerson, You'll find me. It's 10 episodes there, guys. Don't miss them.
