Uh, You can change your mind... #MogulMinutes

Camille D. Jamerson talks to a young entrepreneur stuck offering services that aren't working because they're on her website. You can drop them. Jamerson moved event-planning off her own list to focus on higher-margin consulting, and she kept her word to existing clients while making the shift.

Hey guys, I just needed to take a moment before I went home to share this Muggle Moment with you. And this Muggle Moment is a little bit different because it kind of is an offshoot of a conversation I had today. I was talking to a young lady and she was telling me that about some problems she was having in her business, and she's like, oh well, I can't stop doing X, Y, and Z because these particular things weren't working for her in business, um, particular, um, projects and things that she was doing and service offerings that she had really wasn't working out for her. Um, but she told me, well, I can't stop doing those things because that's what I put on my website that I could do. And then I just stopped and looked at her like— no, this face right here— just, what? So you're gonna let what you wrote on your website dictate to you what you will and won't do in your business? Girl, bye! What? No, you don't do that. You're not beholden to that. If it doesn't work, change it. Stop doing it. Do something different. Do something better, or just stop doing it altogether. You're not beholden to that. There's nothing wrong with "I changed my mind." There's nothing wrong with "I don't do that anymore." There's nothing wrong with "That didn't work out for me." You don't have to be perfect, and you're not going to get everything right on the first go-round. So you're going to edit some things along the way, you're going to change some things along the way while you're building a business, you're going to move some things that you just want to hold dear totally out of the picture. I had to do it. I love event planning, but I had to move event planning off the table so I could focus more on the consulting that was really going to affect my bottom line. So even though I didn't really want to, my trusty board of advisors advised me to that, and I took them up on that because they were absolutely right. And so for people who ask me about still doing events, I don't do that anymore. I changed my mind. That's not one of— that's not in my scope of services anymore. And there's nothing wrong with that. So I'm sharing that with you today in reference to your business, but keep in mind that this could be about anything that you feel that you are tied to or beholden to, or that you have to be a part of because that's the expectation of other people. No, you don't. No, you don't. No, you don't. You can change your mind. You can do something different. You're a grown-up. As the old folks say, you grown. You can do what you want to do. Now, of course, in all things you want to be responsible. You want to be mindful of keeping your word. Um, you want to be diligent in the things that you promise other people. All of those things notwithstanding, but don't feel tied to anything or anybody just because you felt a certain way at a certain period of time. You made the decision that you made with the information that you had at the time. When you get new information, Uh-oh, you can make a different decision. All right, I guess that's a hit and a half, that that's enough, guys. So I'm gonna go, but I just had to stop and share that with y'all.
